For years there has been a debate on whether or not homeschooling children is a good idea. The following ten statements are arguments for the act of homeschooling children:
10 Reasons Its Better To Homeschool Your Kids ::
1. Incredibly individualized attention for your child– since the only children in the “classroom” will be your own, and maybe a few others, the teacher to student ration will be significantly lower. You, as the teacher, will be able to give each student more attention and address their needs more fully.
2. Ability to tailor lessons to teach your child information that you think is most important– Although home schooled children still need to learn a basic set of skills, parents are able to tailor the exact information their children learn, and also the manner in which they learn it.
3. Strengthening the bond between parent and child– spending all day with your child and teaching them everything they learn is great bonding experience. It will give your children the sense that their parents are smart, capable individuals who have the answers to anything they have questions about. It will also place an extra sense of importance on education within the family.

4. Eliminates the threat of bullies– without other children to interact with, there is no worry over something that happens in every school at one point or another: bullying. It is something that can be hard to deal with in traditional school settings and with homeschooling it’s not an issue.
(Yep! So agree with this one…..we had to deal with bully issues with our youngest so we pulled him back out of school and he is now happily homeschooling again!! Read more about our Homeschooling News )
5. Interaction with people that are different than they are– Although children that are home schooled may miss out on some peer-to-peer interaction, they gain valuable skills of interaction with people who are different ages than them. This is an important skill for the future because the odds are that your children will not always only be surrounded by people who are their own age.
6. Saving on transportation expenses– This benefit is very simple. If a parent doesn’t have to drive their children to school every day, they do not have to pay for the gas that would facilitate this daily travel, therefore saving the parents money.
7. Lack of stipulations on lessons relating to religion and philosophy– In a traditional public school setting it is prohibited to teach about religion because of the separation of church and state. There is the option of a religious based school, but those schools have high tuition and are very expensive. As a combination parent and home school teacher, you have the option of teaching and instilling in your children religious and philosophical values that are part of your family’s beliefs.
8. Children develop a higher sense of respect for their parents– Spending so much time with their parents while they are in a different role of power gives them more respect for their parents.

9. Home schooled students score highly on standardized tests– Based on pure statistics, home schooled students excel on the same standardized tests that their traditionally schooled peers are subject to.
(So very True! Our 16-year-old is doing Tafe – Access 10 by correspondence. It’s a 12 month course – he is going to be finished in less than six months!)
10. School schedules are more flexible– Because parents are the ones in charge of mandating the school schedule, they are able to schedule lessons around family engagements and other activities that are important to the child or the family as a whole.

New Life on the Road
Well we’ll find out soon enough, not sure about keeping to the disipline of following a currriculum at home. At least I have lots of experts in a bus to help guide us xxx x
Hi Lisa,
You will be amazed with how much your kids “learn” from what is around them because they want to learn! Rather than force learning through the classroom!
Happy to answer any questions anytime

I think each family needs to decide what is right for them and can come up with their own list of reasons why its better to homeschool or not to homeschool depending on their circumstances. I personally prefer to send mine to school as I was homeschooled myelf on occasions and much preferred to have the social interaction of other kids, but I can see advantages in homeschooling when you don’t want to be on a strict agenda or timetable.

Hi Jackie,
Its true that each child is different and learns differently! Our youngest son is far too carefree to sit in a classroom all day long – yet our oldest son loved school.
Its what ever works best for each family!

Reading though your blog is giving me hope and courage that we can do this. We are hoping to travel around Australia by 2015 we would love to stay 2014 but want to have some savings behind us before we start… I am worried I won’t do a good enough to teach my 4 children ( aged 13,10,7,& 2) as I have two asd boys and what looks like a girl with learning difficulties as well. School has let us down so far and they have been left well behind their peers…
