Last week I had to drop off Cameron and Kyle to their Grandparents so that David and I could attend the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Its the very first time I have left Cameron and Kyle together with anyone, let alone their Grandparents.
I was very worried – Kyle is our little free spirit child who explores all the time and we have to constantly search for him.
And Cameron is our one who loves to have constant routine and sticks to what he knows – and needs his own personal space.
I am also around them 24/7 and need to be near them – I have Panic Attacks when I am not with my family and need to be either near them or have constant phone contact – yeah I ran out of credit that weekend, calling them all of the time! Calling them in between “In Conversation with Dan Barber” and “The Essentials With Paul Wilson“
And they didn’t have any school books to take with them because we were all caught up on our homeschooling {we homeschool our way}
They both were fine.
Actually they were better than fine – they thrived. Cameron was a “Big Helper” with inside and outside the property.
Kyle had free rein of Grandad’s Shed – He loves to build/create/use the hammer and nails.
Cameron helped with the kitchen and the Garden – he planted, he weeded and he even swept the leaves up.
Cameron helped with cooking meals, washing up dishes and drying up dishes.
Kyle loved helping out with Grandad – and using the man cave.
Grandparents loved having their grandkids around, it was a win/win situation all around. And yes David and I had some time together. First time ever we have had a weekend away without Children.
Considering that in two days time, we have been married for 20 years , it was about time we had “us” time! We didn’t even have a honeymoon back when we got married {Back in our days – gosh do I sound old!!!!} cause we already had our oldest Woody Son with us and with his Sleep Apnea we couldn’t let anyone else really look after him at night time cause he would need constant monitoring.
But you know what was good about the weekend? Listening to our Boys having fun, and listening to all they were doing without us there. They got to grow up a little, and they got to be their own little people exploring a different world.
I think that David and I going to have to more “Weekends” to ourselves now that I know both boys will be okay without us….now to find more babysitters!
While Kyle Was In Grandad Shed ::
Kyle loves fishing…its his passion, his true calling and one he could easily do from Sun Up to Sun Down. This is The Boat That Kyle Built and the one I had to bring home in the back of our Campervan.
He turned the “Old Blue Shell” that was once a Sandpit into a Boat. At first I was really worried, thinking that it would sink and Kyle would have to swim to shore, but he was like “Don’t Worry Mum, It will be fine, It Will Work”. Of course I should have listened to Kyle!
His smile says it all.
So he didn’t do any book work for the six days that he was away, but hey I think this invention of his beats any “book work” hands down, what you reckon?
The tide was strong, and the wind which meant that he was being swept away from where he wanted to go. Luckily he was able to turn it back around and head to shore. Since then we have now added a very long rope, which is tied to the Boat, and he can now throw it to us so that if need be we can tow him back to us. My Mama heart couldn’t cope with another adventure where the wind/tide was stronger than him.
He did try to get back across but it wasn’t possible that time because the winds were too strong. We have since had more adventures with Kyle’s Boat, and it was successful!
Sorry that Cameron Photo is so very Blurry – this was taken on David’s Phone Yesterday so its not as clear as my Camera.
Both Boys are now very good at steering the Boat with the two oars that Kyle built. And both boys are really good at sitting still enough so that it doesn’t tip up and let water in, or tip over!
Now they just need to work out how to Catch fish while in the Boat!
Have You Seen A Boat Like The One That Kyle Built?
Cheers
Lisa
