When I was younger my Grandmother took me most weekends, and I got to stay at her place. She lived closer to Sydney then what we did, and we easily caught the train in on numerous occasions. Looking back my late Grandma was one groovy lady – she was into every club you could think! As a member, or part of the community within the club – be it a club for protecting the trees, or the parks, or even bush walking! So the other day I was talking with my boys and we did A Trip Down Memory Lane!
Thinking Back In Time
I love talking about when my boys were little babies! The amazing stories we have to share about their sleep habits, and what there favorite toys were, and how they would sleep (or not sleep) when I was super tired! One of the best memories I like to talk about is how wonderful my Grandmother was. Actually I am proud to announce that our Motorhome “Rose – The Lifestyle Challenge Bus” reminds me of my Grandmother as Yellow Roses are her favorite flower.
A Favorite Place To Visit
While I was spending time with my Grandmother we went to some gorgeous places. I even went bush walking when she was with one of her groups! Gosh can I remember that time……it was a full on bush-walk. It was in and out of hills, up and down, and was about a 4 hour walk. Halfway through my Grandmother slipped and twisted her ankle underneath her. As soon as she fell we all knew it was going to be one of those “Oh No, What Now” situations. It took four men, three hours of carrying my Grandmother to a house that was in the middle of no-where. There was no car access, it was in the middle of the bush! There wasn’t even a phone in the house.
The Boat To The Rescue
Luckily someone had a mobile phone and the ambulance was called – and was waiting for us across the water! There was a boat that was moored on the other side. Once the boat was alerted to the emergency it was a matter of time before my Grandmother was picked up and taken to the waiting ambulance. After she was settled into the emergency ward of the small country hospital, it was a waiting game. She had to be transferred to a bigger hospital, and I had to be taken home! Gosh that was a huge Trip down memory lane as this was a very long time ago! The beauty of this story was that I was driven home, and my Grandma was being taken care of.
Another Time Another Story
There were many moments that I have as memories with my Grandmother. Beautiful memories that I will always treasure. Lucky for us our five boys are spending time with their Grandparents and will have memories that they too can treasure. One of my favorite memories is going to the Parks in Sydney. Again my Grandmother was members of different clubs that looked after parks so there were many weekends where we spent a whole day walking around Park Lands, or even helping out with different aspects of the club that she was associated with. I remember riding my bike through the biggest Parks in Sydney. It was a new bike, but my Grandmother wanted a turn! Gosh that was a sight to see – it was so funny….even she was laughing! I used to have a photo of that day but I am not sure where that is anymore. Lucky I have that memory to treasure and can share it with A Trip Down Memory Lane.

New Life on the Road
Hi Lisa
Like most people I have heaps of fun memories spent with family and friends. It is sad when you look back and wonder where all the years have gone.
I remember all the wonderful times I had with my late grandparents. I was lucky all four grandparents where alive to see me get married and my grandmothers, for a short while where great grandmothers.
They absolutely loved there great granddaughters. I remember Nan playing hairdressers with Samantha. Sam was the hairdresser and Nan thought she had pretend scissors, Nan realised they were not pretend scissors when a chunk of hair was cut off.

Hello Kerry,
Gosh that so made me smile….pretend scissors!! Gotta love kids and hairdressing. Even my boys love to play hairdressers and do my hair! Kyle asked the other day if he could cut my hair….lucky for me he didnt already have the scissors in his hands.
I so wish my Grandma was here to see my boys grow up. She would have loved to see them, and would be a proud Great-Grandma. Time sure flys and I treasure all of the memories and times I had with her. It sure was good to take a trip down memory lane 🙂 Love talking about fun times.
Cheers

Always interesting taking a trip down memory lane Lisa :).
My family moved to Hong Kong when I was little for a couple of years. My parents wanted my grandmother to come out and live with us, which she did after we’d been there for about a year. It was a huge deal for her, as she’d never been overseas, let along to nearly the other side of the world (from the UK). To add to this, she was wheel chair bound! I do remember her playing endless games of cards with me 🙂

G’day Lisa and David,
Our maternal grandmother lived with us from when I was 3 until she went to heaven when I was about 14.
2 strong memories of her are:-
1 During WW2 she had a way of “acquiring” chocolates and sweets which were rationed during the war………..her methods were always a mystery !!!
2 Years later she had extreme arthritis and had to have her feet bathed and massaged – it was my privelege to do this to offer some relief. She had to be helped with her walking stick and later, crutches.
My paternal grandmother visited us in Oz from the UK for a few weeks when I was 10, and that was the only time I saw her. Few memories.
Thanks for this great post which stirred up memories long buried.
Cheers
