When we lived in Glasshouse Mountains {many moons ago!} we used to have a Family Pass to Australia Zoo – where I could take our boys for a few hours whenever we wanted, and see “More” of each section of the Zoo without the pressure of rushing from one spot to another.
Now that we are here on the Sunshine Coast I was thinking about what we could do because we have really seen most of this area already – and so one thing lead to another and we now have yearly passes once again. This is our Family very early Christmas Present to our boys! And to us parents – we love exploring the Australia Zoo as much as they do.
On Friday {last week} David came home from work and we rushed out the door to activate our passes and to check out the new sections that we hadn’t seen. As soon as we got there we jumped onto the Zoo Train to take us to the “African” section and “Bindi Island”. We also wanted to catch the crocosuem crocodile show but for some reason it wasn’t on at 2.30pm – it was at one of the smaller Crocodile enclosures which we decided there was too many people for us to see anything.
Cameron had a plan….he wanted to show us the “African” section of the Zoo – which is all the way at the back! I can’t wait to return another time and walk the whole Zoo – my boys need the exercise to help them sleep better at night – but David was exhausted from work so he was happy to catch the train. It is a 100 acre Zoo so I guess I could understand how he was keen to not walk!
While on the Train we went pass this……
Sorry its a bit out of focus but I clicked away as we were going by. Anyone can pay for a greet and meet at the Zoo, not sure if I would be game enough to be this close to a Cheetah but I sure would love to have a “Greet And Meet” With a Elephant! Mind you we didn’t see any Elephants this time?
Oh they are such tall graceful animals, I could sit and watch them all day long!
I was watching the Rhinos with the Giraffes. And also the Zebras – amazing that three different types of Animals can all live together in one location! And also noticed that there was a Zoo Keeper in the enclosure who was making sure it was clean {using a rake to get rid of the yucky stuff!!} – he must be one brave man cause there is no way in the world would I want to stand in that close quarters with those Rhinos Horns, and I think that Giraffes could easily step on you and you would feel the pain! Mind you the Keeper must have known what he was doing cause he knew to keep his distant to the animals that were eating.
Lemurs live on Bindi Island in the Zoo. They make the most incredible communication sounds, each one different and unique, and its almost like they are “speaking”. You can hear them over 1 Km away, which we were able to do while walking slowly to the Koalas.
There are two types of communication for the Lemurs. They use vocalization and they use scent markings. Low growls are used by the Lemurs to communicate. Sometimes that message is to get away or other times it is inviting.
Kyle really REALLY wants an animal – any animal for a pet! Last “Aprils Fools Day” {2014} I got David big time with the prank that I had purchased a Snake for Kyle – it was so very funny hearing David going off on the phone about where we would keep a snake, Kyle was like “yeah it can sleep with me on my bunk bed”
This Hindu God, Known for removing obstacles, has an elephant’s head.
But why an elephant?
An elephant clears a path in the jungle by pushing over trees.
The Hindu belief is that, Ganesh like an elephant, will remove all of life’s obstacles and clear a path to follow.
Elephants footprints erase the footprints of other smaller animals. As the remover of obstacles, Garnesh will make life’s journey smoother.
Elephants are renowned for their intelligence. Ganesh’s elephant head symbolises how obstacles can be overcome with intelligence
What about the mouse? Mice can see well in the dark. The mouse acts as Ganesh’s vehicle. Leading man from darkness to light.
My favorite part of the Zoo is the Bird enclosure – its so tranquil with the water trickling, and the coolness of the place!
When we used to go to Australia Zoo we would have all five of our boys with us! Now we are half of our family and it felt weird having only two of our boys for this picture!
Here is a Flash Back…..Gosh look how small Kyle was back then!
And another Flash Back….
Not the best quality photo but its a great trip down memory lane…with three of our boys!
I do have a picture {somewhere} of all of my boys at the statue but I am not sure which computer its on!
Oh I can’t wait to we go back – trying to work out which week/day that will be – so very busy at the moment. Which you all know why that is!
