On Australia Day I wanted to cross off a Bucket List adventure that I have been wanting to do for sometime. Its a long walk from Bargara to The Lighthouse – one website said it was a 90 minutes walk there and back! Well I am sorry but we took 2 hours to walk one way. And it was so very hot by the end of our walk but so very worth it. David dropped us off at Bargara and went to The Lighthouse carpark.
Then he started walking towards us – we actually meet up with him sooner then he expected and was shocked to see how much we had walked. After wards we thought that we could have easily walked there and back, if it wasn’t so very hot mind you.
Yeah we got burnt that day but gee we had so much fun.
And both boys walked a long way to see the final destination. After the walk we decided to head to The Lighthouse Hotel for lunch, which was a great place to be for Australia Day because they organised Kid Friendly activities outside – egg and spoon races, tug a war, jumping castles, hair spraying, and dunk the person in the water! Both Cameron and Kyle joined in on the fun as soon as they had finished eating.
We started our Journey from Nelison Park Bargara – and walked along the footpath to reach our destination, along a path that many were running and riding bikes.
Cameron and Kyle hadn’t worked out exactly what the sign said…they thought it was 2000m to the Lighthouse, not to the Mon Repos Destination! And I didn’t have the heart to tell them that we had way more then 2000m to go!!
We didn’t have time to check out if the Wetlands was dry or wet! We had to keep on walking so that we could reach the half way mark to meet up with David, mind you I think we could have spent at least five minutes here, maybe another time?
We then came up to this amazing sign – where you could press buttons, which of course my boys love to do!! {did you get that joke??}
At this sign we were not sure which way to go?? There is so much information about Mon Repos and how to get there, but which pathway do we take for The Lighthouse?
I ended up going on gut instinct, which always works well for me 🙂
And it was around about here that both Boys realised our steps were still going, and we had passed Mon Repos. They then started to add up all the signs they had seen and was trying to work out if we would be doing 10,000 steps in one morning! It was a great distraction from having to keep on going.
Cameron got to have a turn on the Scooter and Kyle walked really well with us.
The most incredibly funniest thing ever happened here!!! Kyle learnt right over and stuck his head in the drain pipe and started to yell really loud.
David {being a funny Dad} went very quietly to the other end, leaned over and yelled super loud. I kept my eyes on Kyle – He Jumped Six feet into the air, looked around and was trying to work out where/who/what/how the noise came about. It was like expected to see Big Foot came out of the drain – the LOOK ON HIS FACE, nothing in this world was as funniest as that moment.
I was laughing so very hard I nearly fell on the ground, David was like “oh I missed Kyle’s reaction” Cameron was ahead and had no idea what went down.
I was kicking myself for NOT having the Video Camera going – it was one of the best moments in life ever.
We made it! Hot Sweaty and so over joyed to be walking from Bargara to The Lighthouse.
Super proud of my boys walking that far, super glad we got to spend quality time together. Super happy that we crossed off another Bucket List Adventure, and felt so very strong for walking so far.
From here we went to The Lighthouse Pub for lunch – where they had the best Kid Friendly games ever.
Peeved off that after we went here I thought to check out GEOcache.com website and see that there was heaps of caches along the way, and even one at the Lighthouse! Maybe next time we are over that way we can make an effort to search for them.
Bargara to The Lighthouse Festival
{the map is about as accurate as I could get it, the Lighthouse wasn’t showing up as a google search!}

How Did You Spend Your Australia Day?

New Life on the Road
Great story, Lisa, quite a walk, quite an adventure on Australia Day…
The little patrolled beach is Oaks Beach….during turtle season this beach can be just as busy with turtles laying as Mon Repos….but don’t tell anyone!
Oh I am so going to have to go back and watch for Turtles, thanking you for letting us know Marianne 🙂
What a great idea for Australia day and how fun that hike sounds! We’ve not done geocaching yet, but I can certainly appreciate why you’d be peeved about not having checked ahead of time. How long have you been doing it?
