I know that I was meant to share our day down in Maryborough weeks ago, but I am not sure why, I just cant seem to get myself motivated to get online at the moment and blog! I am feeling like there is no point, cause how many people are reading these posts anyway??
Which brings me to the question – Do you read New Life on the Road blog? Are you are new reader, or an old time reader {following our journey for sometime?} Would love to know you, where are you when you are reading the blog posts? What are you doing in your life at the moment?
Bond Store Museum Maryborough ::
When Cameron had to be down in Maryborough for his end of Year March Out Parade David, Kyle and I decided that we had to fill in the time with something interesting – Cameron had to be at the Parade Grounds by 10.30 am and then we didn’t have to be back there until later afternoon.
I looked up where to go, and realised that the Bond Store Museum Maryborough would be ideal, along with the War Museum which was across the road. And I am sure glad we did because if you are ever in Marborough then we highly recommend getting the Pass to see all three attractions – Customs House Interpretive Centre {which unfortunately for us wasn’t open that day}, Bond Store Museum, Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum.
Can’t remember exactly how much the pass cost, but do remember it was so very cheap, and both boys were free.
As you walk in the Bond Store Museum has a friendly lady behind the counter which shares with you what to look at, and where to walk first. There are different points in the Museum that you have to find, press the button and listen to the information!
This Time Machine really works! It takes you back to three different dates and you get to see {on the wall in front} a movie from way back in time, even back to see all about Maryborough housewives!
I loved History when I was in High School so every time we visit a Museum I spend ages standing in front of all of the banners/wall plaques/boards reading as much as possible. Don’t always remember what I read, but I still enjoy the moment of stepping back in time!
If you have ever seen the movie “Titanic” you will remember seeing one of these in the section where they controlled the ship. I think its called the “Bridge” of the ship, where they could control the direction of the ship and how fast/slow it could go. Shame they never kept the Titanic on a Slow speed, one has to wonder if there wouldn’t have been as much damage to the ship if it wasn’t travelling at such crazy speed that fateful night.
The inside of the Bond Store Museum Maryborough is full of history – from as far back as the early 1800’s. The beams down stairs {look up as you climb downstairs} will make you realise that we don’t build them like that anymore!
When you go downstairs there is a button to press. Which will give you a “Show” on the Wall. Where you can listen and take a step back in the “olden days” 🙂
The wonderful friendly staff {never come across someone who was so very friendly before!} asked us if we wanted to stop and sample the port but we both declined, David because he was driving, and me because I knew my liver/kidneys wouldn’t be able to handle it at the moment.
But I would love to return another time, if we get the chance.
When we looked outside the building we noticed this on the wall ::
Incredible to see all the different heights of the waters over the years, scary to think the Bond Store Museum Maryborough would have been under back in 1893. And even recently it was high – hard to imagine when one is standing on such manicured grass/and looking at the gorgeous Gardens.
