We the rain hanging around, and David able to have two days off from work we decided a stop to the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens was ideal. Its a beautiful spot, to walk, and when the train is operating there is a track around the gardens.
Bundaberg Botanical Gardens are stunning ::
Kyle looked at this small little creek and it soon turned into a conversation {thats the beauty of our homeschooling ways} about where would be the safest place to camp where there is a River Bed/Creek around. David shared a story of how one family set up camp in a Dry River Bed, thinking they were safe. And there was a freak flash flood up stream that flowed down in the night and wiped the family out.
So if you ever come across a Dry River Bed and think “Oh it safe, there hasn’t been any water here in such a long time” think again.
Kyle said he would set up next to the river, but we were like, what happens if more rain comes, the river bed will rise. So its best to set up Camp up high, even if you have a little walk down to the river to collect water for drinking, a little walk is worth it 🙂
The Trains are open during the School Holidays, but because of the Rain they were closed the day we went. We have been on the trains before, so we are not too upset that they were closed. Mind you both boys have asked to go back another time for a Train ride!
We are used to the smell and noise from our Teenager sons so we are used to the Batty Behaviour of our boys! But yeah the Bat smell is something different altogether.
Still not sure what to call it – is it a Swamp or a Lake in the Middle of the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens?
Oh and we forgot to bring the bread to feed them!
Yep while we were walking along the boys got to see the Ducks Breeding so again this led to another education about why the Daddy Duck was on the Mummy Duck, and both boys thought it was very cruel how he was pushing her head down and holding it down!
We want to return and do the Hinkler Hall of Aviation tour which also includes entry into Bert Hinkler House – we can’t wait to spend one whole day there, reading and taking it all in! Funny enough we haven’t been to the Hinkler Hall of Aviation before, yet a family pass is not too expensive!
Even though it was a wet day, the rain held off while we were at the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens. And we enjoyed our family day strolling through the grounds.
Have You Been To the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens?
