Recently we planned a trip to visit one of our magical favorite camping spots up north because Kyle has been bugging us for ages to go Gold Fossicking and looking for gems. He even kept asking if he could pack a back pack and go by himself!
I kept having to tell him that at the age of 12 he isn’t allowed to go on a camping adventure all by himself but he doesn’t care about the fact that he isn’t yet over 18. And being a red hair, being a full on adventure fun loving child I am going to have to make sure that he doesn’t disappear on us! Yeah I think I will have to hide the Back Packs so that he doesn’t get any ideas.
And we didn’t even tell him where we were heading off to – he knew it was up north but he had no idea where or what we were doing. We hid our gold detector in an another bag and every time David spoke about our destination I just about hit him because I didn’t want to spoil the surprise for Kyle.
Calliope Free Camping Area is a perfect spot for a family. It has a river that is a great little spot for fishing, Toilets on one side of the camping spot and is on the way to where we planned to camp.
And it has been on my bucket list for so very long. Mind you I didn’t expect a Storm to hit us – I made sure my massage table was taken off the roof racks and put in the Camper trailer when we could see the radar online showing us how it was going to hit and when!
David Made a great slide out for our Car Fridge which worked extremely well!
There are two sides of Calliope River for Camping. Not sure when the road closed over the bridge but you can still get to either side from the high way, depends if you are heading south or heading north to which side you want to free camp!
A local let him know that Yep there is Croc Signs but no one has seen any crocs, and that he still goes swimming – BUT I was still like, you are not entering that water no matter what, and wouldn’t let him go any where other than where he was sitting! He calls me a nervous Mum, but I am just being cautious. Anyway I can see a rock that Looks like a croc, can you?
We loved our one night stop over at Calliope Free Camping Spot – we wished we had made time to visit the Historical Village which is next to the Free Camping Spot heading North. But we are going to make sure we go back another time, maybe try and see when their Markets are on and visit the Village at the same time!
Have You Stayed At Calliope Free Camping?
Cheers
Lisa
