The Cost Of Living On The Road

Yesterday I was asked to do a Radio Interview for Wave FM Breakfast Show in Wollongong. A phone interview. At first I said No. They contacted us through our Facebook page, and thought our story/journey of buying/living in a motorhome was inspirational.

I answered with the following “Hi Russell,  Thanking you so much for touching base. But we are no longer in Wollongong – we are on the Sunshine Coast. And our motorhome broke down so its being stored in New South Wales while we are waiting on the parts to be fixed! I am not that inspirational at the moment cause we are kinda stuck without our motorhome. We hope to be back in it by June”

Its My Bus And I Am Going To Cry If I Want To

Normally I am the strong one in our family – The One Who Has To Hold The Shit Together when its hitting the fan. The one who finds solutions when there is an issue to deal with, the one who looks at the bigger picture and finds answers that will work.

Yesterday, My cup was empty, and there was nothing to refill it back up.

Well Friday I didn’t. I didn’t hold it together at all. Its My Bus And I Am Going To Cry If I Want To !!! You see I had unpacked our Campervan stuff back into our Motorhome Monday morning. I had packed up our Motorhome for a trip north – we were going to head out on the road either Wednesday or Thursday.

Fixing The Springs

David was able to organise through his ex-Boss to have our Springs repaired/rebuilt. David from Keep On Travelling knew basically everyone in the Wollongong area so it made it so much easier {and cheaper} to get all of our major work done – quality work at cash prices is the only way to go.

Fixing The Springs on the front was a lot easier then the back ones – only because of the weight issues. They were heavy in the front, and had to be lifted with a Pulley System that David rigged up. But the Back ones were twice as heavy and were harder for David to move around.

The Bedford Broke Down

David has been working on our Bedford for weeks and weeks, with little sleep, lots of very heavy lifting and so many sweat, tears and heaps of money put into getting our Motorhome ready for our big trip north.

We were meant to leave on the Monday 15th December to slowly make our way north…..well that didn’t happen cause we had to wait on our back springs.

Then we were meant to leave Friday but when David was looking at the Gears on Wednesday the Gear Box Parts {can’t remember what its called} broke. So he rang around and found a wonderful company in Port Kembla who spent all after noon Thursday and Friday putting their magic together on making a new part.

Spicy Chicken Wings With Blue Cheese Sauce

This recipe was the inspiration from Peach Keen Mumma with her very yummy Recipe – “Franks Red Hot American Buffalo Wings with Blue Cheese Dip” – OH my gosh I so wished I had tried it before!

Mind you I did change a few of the ingredients to suit what I already had in the fridge and purchased the rest from Woolworths…..

As we live and cook in our Motorhome I am challenged with finding new recipes that we all like, and that I can cook with such limited Space, we have a bench top oven but its not the best for heat!

The Bolt That Stopped The Nation

Got your attention right? Well that’s what I was aiming for!!! For real, The Bolt That Stopped The Nation is what’s going on in our Motorhome with the back springs.

Thanking you universe for providing easier front springs for David to Work on, damn these back ones {wish I could say more words but I am trying very hard to be polite here!!!}

Front of the Motorhome

THE FRONT OF THE MOTORHOME ON A LEAN

We had the front of the Motorhome on a lean last week while he worked on the Front Springs – they were easier to get out which was so good!

World Toilet Day

Today its a Special Day….did you know there is a “World Toilet Day“? Nope I didn’t realise either until now….

You see living in a 10 Foot Motorhome with three of our five boys we don’t have a Toilet as such, we have tried a Porta Loo once, and it was so very smelly – like really bad smelly. That bad that I wrote about it, read our previous experience “Portable Toilet Cleaner, What Is That Smell“.

As you walked into our Motorhome you could smell it before even opening up the Shower Door. So David has been trying to work out how to add a proper Toilet to our shower but the limited space has made it impossible.

Vegetarian Chilli Beans

Our favorite dishes are ones that I tend to make cause they are easy, they taste good and I am one of those cooks who are not game enough to find new recipes all of the time so I cook with what I know!

We don’t have an oven in our Bedford Motorhome so we cook mostly on the Stove Top.

Vegetarian Chilli Beans ::

I love to make Chicken Soup for The Soul – especially when its cold or when we all need a immunity booster….and my all time other favorite dish is Vegetarian Chilli Beans!

Bedford Motorhome Seatbelts

I have been asked a few times about our seating arrangement and our seatbelts. And I normally reply by email to each question {s} so I thought that I would blog about it so that we could share, with our readers, what we have inside our Bedford Comair Motorhome.

But PLEASE you must get your seat belts and your seats approved by Professional engineers and those in the know regards the law – so that your seat belts will be approved for registration, as well as safety reasons.

Bedford Motorhome Seatbelts ::

We have seven seat belts in our Bedford Motorhome {drivers seat has one} and each Seat Belt is bolted into the Frame Work underneath our Motorhome lounges. We have had each seat belt looked at and has been approved as being safe. The seat belts were bought from repco, and the Seats were made by David {he used the Department of Queensland Motor Registry for the Specific Requirements of how to make the frame work strong enough}

We put together a Video of David building the Lounges to see how strong they are!

We are all back together! And it feels so good – guess you all were wondering where we have been? Well here is how we are now living On The Side Of The Road {And I am loving it}

Heading To The Springs Place ::

David organised through his Boss {through Keep Travelling Caravan Repairs} to have our springs looked out. We need all four of them replaced. And we have been wanting them done for a very long time. Because its through a friend of a friend we have had to wait for the perfect weekend. So a Saturday two weeks ago was the day.

So we drove to Port Kembla Springs ::
