When we moved into the Caravan Park that we are currently staying in, we were told about the Floods that can happen, and were told we had to make sure we could move at all times…..
Crap We Cant Move!
And the Rain Is Here!
Yep that was us Monday night, the rain came down so heavy and so fast – actually I was talking to a friend via Facebook PM about how Sydney was having more rain then us and that we were OKAY when out of no where the rain came down like someone had turned on the fire hose full boil. You see we have a Rain gauge outside our Motorhome that lets us know that the Caravan Park can easily reach 2 metres when it floods. Back in 2011 the whole place went under and most of the permanent vans were destroyed and had to be rebuilt on the inside.
So I kept saying to David that we must make sure that we can move.
Well the Universe heard my words….but they didn’t hear all of my words! Note to self – keep the words “Must make sure” and “Can” out of a sentence and just say “We Will Be Able To Move Anytime” 🙂
There was rain, and more rain.
A guy was going around and he was directing out the Campers with their Caravans from the Grassed Area. And letting us all know that we were at Stage 3. If we reached Stage 4 then we all had to leave!
Crap. Double Crap. This is what went down…..
The Motorhome would not start. The Batteries were dead…..completely dead. We couldn’t even get the gear stick to work, David had it re-built but hasn’t had the time to work out why it wont go back in.
We packed up crazily on the inside! Not sure what we were going to do about the outside. But if need be we could have jump started the batteries from our Camper Van.
If need be we would have pushed the Old Girl out somehow…there is no-way we would have left here to go under the floods.
But gee it was a long night – Both David and I couldn’t sleep for fear of what we would have had to do if the water from the creek bed got any higher.
Lets hope this rain goes away sooner, Lets hope David can work out what is wrong with the renovated Gear Bush/Gear Stick so that if need be we can drive out of here safely!
So very Scary! Looking forward to the time we can move and not worry about the Motorhome!
Have You Ever Been Stuck?
Cheers
Lisa

Thank goodness it didn’t come to having to push the bus out in the middle of the night. We get flooded where we live and it is quite nerve wracking worrying about it.

Thanks Jan, it was so very freaky – Can’t imagine having to worry about NOT starting our Motorhome ever again!
How do you get ready for floods all the time…that would be so nerve wracking 🙂
Oh be careful, what a scary night can you tow the bus to higher ground?
My boyfriend once thought it a good idea to park his 4WD in a river bed, we awoke in the middle of the night to flood waters coming down the river and then couldn’t get up the bank as it just kept crumbling. I was terrified. we did get out but I’ll never forget it xx

Thanks Lisa for your kind thoughts/words – we are so very grateful that all turned out OKAY during that night. Now we have new batteries and we are always going to make sure it can be moved!
Gosh what was your boyfriend thinking? That’s crazy….sleeping in a river bed is a big no-no!!! So glad you got in the end, at least now you have a good tale to share with your kids/and one day grandkids 🙂
How are you now BTW?
All good, thanks Ben for asking xxx
Oh, Lisa! How frightening for you all. That night must’ve so rough and long!
Hope it all went okay?

Thanks Grace – Both David and I hardly slept that night….waiting for the Alarm Bell to go off to tell us to leave. But we are so very grateful that the rain stopped, and the creek bank went down. Now we will always make sure we can leave no matter what!!
Sounds like quite the hair-raising experience. But it’s good to know everything is all well and good, and that you were able to write this article 🙂
