And I remember thinking “Why is Kasey singing such a beautiful song with such heart thinking words when she is so gorgeous“.

Maybe this song is not about her NOT being Pretty. Maybe its about someone she knows? I am not sure about the story behind the words, maybe one day I will get a chance to meet Kasey and ask her personally?

But for me the song has a lot of meaning. I think about those words a LOT.

Am I not pretty enough
Is my heart to broken
Do I cry too much
Am I too outspoken
Don’t I make you laugh
Should I try it harder
Why do you see right through me

Those words mean a lot

When you look at the words you could ask a lot of questions. And it does. For me. I ask and I think, maybe way too much.

You see I care with heart on my sleeve. Wished I didn’t. Wished I could hide my feelings better.

And sometimes I do hide. That is behind a smile. But really my health is a tell-tell sign when something is not right within.

The other day I got a personal message asking me a question. About New Life on the Road blog.

And it cut deep…..it wasn’t the person fault that it hurt me. It was my own thoughts that started to play around that hurt me. So the person who asked the question is not to blame – they were only curious. But it has got me to this song again.

Am I Too Outspoken?

Maybe.

Should I try it Harder?

Yes. I should be focusing on what makes me happy.

Don’t I Make you Laugh?

Not sure – but I do hope so with some of our crazy going on’s in our Motorhome! {Have you seen that one about us trying to get to the Sunshine Coast From Bundaberg. A trip that is only supposed to take a few hours and yet took a few days!!)

Is My Heart Too Broken?

Can’t answer that one cause I haven’t ever thought about my heart being broken? Maybe my dreams are broken?

Do I Cry Too Much?

Yeah probably but sometimes those tears are from happiness so that’s a good thing hey?

Am I Not Pretty Enough.

Now that one is hard. That one gets in the way….it used to be a question I asked for many years of being a Mum….am I not pretty enough to have baby girls? But that doesn’t make sense….its just what it is. A question that I ask on many levels for many aspects of my life.

Sick.

So this last two weeks I have been really unwell. I am dealing with it through natural means {garlic, honey, lemon, cinnamon and onions}

I have had my tonsils out but that does not stop one from getting tonsillitis!!! Yeah apparently even with tonsils gone you can still get the infection. Waste of money getting them taken out if you ask me.

But the real reason behind my infection?

Its not my body letting me down, its me letting me down. I started a Chinese Massage Course online that I thought I would be able to fit in and around my family.

And I can, if I wanted to. But that’s just it. I want to learn to massage, but I am not interested in the Chinese History side of the course. I am not interested in the Counselling side of the course. I am not interested in doing role playing. And the information is flowing right over my head.

I live, I breathe, I let it rain on me
I sleep, I wake, I try hard not to break
I crave, I love, I’ve waited long enough
I try as hard as I can

Guess I will be searching deep to find my answer?

Cause all I keep thinking about is “Am I Not Pretty Enough” song.

New Life on the Road.

When David and I were younger both of our Families used to go on Holidays to Ulladulla. We didn’t even know each other back then so it spun us out when we discovered that we both had experienced holidays with family in the same locations!

I have been wanting to explore new locations each week so that we explore more of NSW before we move on. And even though I can’t drive our Motorhome {Actually no-one can at them moment because David is getting parts replaced} outta here I can use my older son’s car for Road Trips.

Mind you I would love a car that was set up for over night trips so that Kyle, Cameron and I could drive as long as we wanted and not worry about having to return to whenever we wanted!

It was cold the day we explored Ulladulla as well as it was late in the afternoon so we could only explore Ulladulla Beach, Lighthouse and of course we had to find a Park for our boys to enjoy.

Along the Way we stopped at Mt Pleasant Lookout. Its a great spot to sit for a moment, take in the view and reflect about where to go to next in life!

After exploring Ulladulla Harbour {too cold to stay too long!} we decided to jump back into the Car, drive through the town and see what we could find.

Glad I drove on gut instinct once again, as we ended up driving down a road to this….

 Then both boys let me know they were ready for some Playground Fun. So we decided to be brave enough and face the cold once again. Heading back through to town to Ulladulla Rotary Park

Wished We Had More Time!

The Sun was going down, if we could have stayed longer we would have. But the time was getting on, and it was so very cold. Next time we head back down to Ulladulla New South Wales we will make sure we leave Wollongong early so that we have more time to explore!

New Life on the Road.

Mushroom Pasta with Avocado Sauce.

Munching Monday Style!

Ingredients ::

Mushroom – 400 grams slice Mushrooms.

Pasta – I bag

Avocado – 2

Onions – 1

Garlic – 2 Gloves

Lemon – 1

Broccolini

Olive Oil

Salt/Pepper – to taste

David cooked such a yummy meal

Method ::

Cook Pasta to Packet Directions

1. Brown the onion

2. Add the Broccolini, cooking for minute

3. Add Mushrooms and garlic, cook to soft.

4,  Create the Avocado Sauce = Mash the Avocado and add 2 gloves of Crushed Garlic. Add 1/4 of Olive Oil plus the Juice of the Lemon.

Salt and Pepper. Mix well.

5.  Stir the Mushroom, Garlic and Onion Mixture into the Cooked Pasta.

6. Add the Avocado Sauce.

7. Serve up immediately with a sprinkle of Parmesan Cheese.

Enjoy your Meal.

Cooking time with preparation time took about 20 minutes.

Healthy. Yummy. Delicious. Fast.

Great Meal for Winter time, and taste even better when someone else cooks it up

Today I am lost. Lost with what to say, and what to think. And I wish it was a different day. So Very Sorry I Have No Words. Another Travelling (Blogging) Family lives have been changed.

So Very Sorry

To hear the news about another wonderful Mama, and her Partner whose families lives were changed yesterday. My thoughts go out to the two Children, and for them I would like to let them know that they are not alone.  People care and they are thinking of them.

Its all I can think about – to let them know they are not alone.

There are No Words

To make this different or right. Kathreen Ricketson from WhipUp my thoughts are with you today, as I am sure many others out there. To Rob Shugg may you be returned to be with your partner.

The blogging world is a tight community, where everyone has everyone;s back. And everyone knows everyone. That is what makes us. We know each other yet we have never meet.

We feel the same, yet we are in different states

We write the same, the words come from the heart.

Yet are blogs can be different.

Yes we are all from different parts of the world. But it doesn’t matter. We are still tied together.

We are the same yet we are different. We are parents and we share our lives through our blogs, books and with photos.

We have all have dreams and some have a desire to travel.  That connects us no matter our history.

My number one request was to have peace n quiet,

My number two request was to go somewhere we have not been to before!

My number three request was to spend time with all of my boys.

We started the morning off slow, with Breakfast being cooked so that I could eat in bed, and it was so peaceful. Then about lunch time we headed over to Illawarra Light Railway Museum because I knew that the steam trains were going to be running. And our boys were keen to experience Mini Trains.

Our older two boys have been to Mackay Mini Trains when they were little (years ago) so it was good to be able to share this day with our younger three boys. Even though Nicholas was “too old” to ride the Mini Trains (according to him) I was happy to jump on!

Because it was Mothers Day they had a special Mothers Day pass – which we we worked out was good value.

Its free to enter the Light Railway Museum, where they have picnic tables and playground equipment. It only cost to ride the Steam Train and the Miniature  Trains. We are going to go back because we ran out of time for the Museum and our boys would love to be able to spend more time running around.

All in all it was a great Mothers Day out!

And my requests? Yes I got peace n quiet on Sunday Morning with Breakfast in Bed, we went to somewhere we have not been to before, and we drove into Sydney that night for dinner with my older son.  I was so very grateful to have a day with my family and new adventures. Its what “New Life on the Road” is all about.

The museum is located at 48a Tongarra Road, Albion Park Rail on the Southern side of the Illawarra regional airport. The museum is a 100 km drive south of Sydney and a 20 minute drive south of Wollongong.

Sydney Equestrian Centre

It took about an 1 1/2 hours to get there so we left early – luckily we did because we were able to walk around and see all of the stall holders before meeting up at the front of the Indoor Arena. I used to own a horse but that was many years ago, and I have never been to any fancy horse shows in Australia – went to a dressage event when I was in London back when I was 18!!

The Arena took my breath away – the colours of the flowers, the formal setting, the way the riders held themselves proud when sitting and competing on their horses was the hi-light.

Or maybe the Hi-Light was meeting Joann Formosa who won a Gold Medal in 2012 London Paralympics. Her determination and out look on life lead her to compete in the Australian Para-Equestrian, with the understanding that she was going for gold.

Joann even went as far as telling a few people that she was entering to win, and she did. That is how powerful our minds are! Her story was one of inspiration and determination.

Behind The Scenes

Horse Crossing Only

Heading to the Horse Stables ::

Because we were part of a School Group we were able to duck behind where most people are not allowed to go. There are areas where the riders are allowed with their horses, but the general public are denied. Our tour guide took us all to the Stables (a no go area) and we had a detailed tour. From explaining how the horses have to meet certain standards upon arrival, to how the horses have to look, to how the equipment must be in top shape to even how the competitors must be groomed.

There was much to learn and to take on board.  We were even told about the Green Dot on the Saddle Blanket. If you see a Horse that has a Green Spot then it means that Horse is a Stallion and should be given respect. All the mares are to stay well away, all of the other Horses and Riders are to respect that not only does the horse need to concentrate on the Event Ahead, but it is also Competing with all of his hormones intact!!!

Wished I had thought to take notes because now looking back on the day I am sure I am forgetting a lot of information!

What interested me the most was how many top Horses were in one location, and how many competitors looked incredible fit. It was almost like a fashion parade on a grand scale.

When Horses Arrive

The horses must arrive a day before the event (or was it two days?) and have to walk and trot down a track in front of Judges, Vets and Officials. All horses must past this test to be able to enter the Sydney Equestrian Centre Stables. There is a Track to the left of where they must compete this test, and its a track NO-one wants to be told to go down. Basically if you are told to head down that Track you will not be competing at the event – its a “Dead Man” track….where horses are taken to be checked over by the Vets and most likely told to go home.

Dressage Event

At the time we were able to watch the biggest Dressage Event. It was the Sydney CDI – International Dressage Event where competitors come from all over the world. The event is held in Sydney with Judges flown in from overseas so that there is no basis for who wins.

Its cheaper to fly judges in then it is to fly horses and competitors to overseas.

And those travelling from other countries come to compete by “Borrowing” Horses from the Australian teams because its too hard (with Quarantine etc) to have their own enter into Australia. When they had the Olympics at the Sydney Equestrian Centre it was a different story. Each competitor had their Horse flown in on a Plane that only took Horses, transferred onto a Truck that only took those Horses, and then taken straight to the Centre where they had an area set up for Horses from overseas.

So basically the Equestrian Centre became the Quarantine area – where they were Vet Checked regularly.  Then our Australian Horses arrived three weeks before the Olympic event and again they were quarantined to the Centre for duration of the event.

Why Is CDI Different from Other Dressage Events?

The CDI stands for Concours de Dressage International (International Dressage Event). Its a three star event that is run entirely in accordance with international rules and regulations for equestrian sports, veterinary conditions and international dressage events. As a result, a number of matters are handled differently when compared with most competitions organized under national rules.

One I am glad that we took the time to attend. Having a tour from a member whose family competes was a hi-light, talk about knowing a LOT about competitions at such a high level.

To behind the scenes of the Equestrian Centre, to meeting the high quality of horses and very serious looking competitors…..to meeting Joann Formosa.

The Day Was/Is Highly Recommended For All School Aged Children, as well as us Adults! If you have a school in the area then get them to organise a tour (not sure when the next event is on?)

Or if you have a great Homeschooling Network (incredible one down in Wollongong) then see if someone can organise the day out. Cameron and Kyle enjoyed the day, even if they only went because I love horses!

New Life on the Road.

I asked hubby to make it for Saturday night dinner but he worked and then was too tired to cook, and we had such a big meal for lunch so I ended up cooking easy meals that night.

Today ::

With all of us being over tired with our huge weekend I decided not to go out to the homeschooling meet up and instead stay home and catch up on washing and cooking dinner.

Mind you I didn’t know that my computer was not going to turn on, nor did I realise my internet was not going to connect!!! So its late in the afternoon and I haven’ even looked at my study notes, let alone answer emails or anything else. But I guess I should be grateful because now my computer is on, my internet was able to connect, my washing is all done and dinner smells so very good.

We had the best amazing Mothers Day weekend in years. Spending time with family on Saturday and spending time with my boys at Illawarra Railway Museum.  Yet the lack of sleep means we are all going to have an early night….which meant I wanted to have dinner cooked before David got home from work.

Munching Monday ::

Chicken Ginger Noodle Soup is my all time favourite. I got the recipe from a liver detox book many years ago, and have changed it over the years to add whatever veggies I have in my fridge/freezer. It always makes me feel good on the inside, and with HEAPS of ginger it helps to keep the winter sniffles away.

As well as give our boys lots of Vitamins. Its good food for the soul, and so easy to make.

Making Dinner early so we can go to bed early

Ingredients ::

2 Chicken Breast (or chicken drumsticks)

1 Soup Pack

Chinese Hard Noodles

2 Onions

1 Bulb of Garlic

1 Big Piece or more of Ginger

Method ::

Brown the Onions.

Add the Chicken (I usually add the chicken breast and cut while its browning up – they usually are so tender they are almost falling apart)

Stir in the Crushed Garlic

Cook until the Chicken is brown and the onion/garlic is soft.

Add the Grated Ginger – I grate over the saucepan.

Then peel the carrots, turnips and parsnips. Grate them into the cooking.

Add as much water to cover the chicken/veggies.

Buying A Soup Packet Makes Dinner So Easy

Turn heat down to low and simmer for as long as you like (I cook this in the afternoon at its ready by 5.30pm)

Keep an eye on the saucepan – you might need to top up with more water!

Grating All of the Vegetables

Add the Chinese Hard Noodles.

They break down and blend into the Chicken Ginger Noodle Soup.

The smell is going to make you look forward to dinner, and the taste is too yummy to describe!

Mothers Day Will Be Different This Year.

*** Please Keep on Reading Because I have A Gift To Give Away – all you need to do is answer a question!! ***

This year I won’t be making a phone call as a gift to my Mum, because I am actually going to be brave enough to spend the day with family and say Thanks with giving a gift and through a lunch date.

The previous years I didn’t even make an effort besides sending wishes through my brothers to My Mum. So this year is going to be special and going to be different. After 17+ years of not having contact with my Mum/Family, this year I am making sure that I make it better for all of us.

We will be having lunch together on the Saturday – not sure where yet!

And I will be able to hand her a gift.

Mind you my brothers have told me that they do not give Mum any gifts for Mothers Day – like never….gee did I get upset when I found out that they consider taking her out for lunch a big enough gift.

And they have reasurred me that just being with her for the day is all she needs. But I still believe that every Mother in this world needs a gift to say thanks for everything!

Facts About Mothers Day

(from the research carried out by Telstra)

*  Telstra research has revealed almost half of young adults aged between 18 to 25 phone their mums everyday with more than one in 10 calling because they need something – the kind of phone call mums least like receiving.

(I must be outside that number! Mind you if things were different I so would have called home many times over the years)

*  The Telstra survey into the phone habits of Australians1 also found that nine out of 10 mums would rather their kids call ‘just for  a chat’ with older mums (aged 65 and over)  twice as likely to want their children to call to ‘check up on them’ than any other age group.

(OK – I admit it….I love it when my older son calls Home just let me know how he is doing, mind you I am not over 65 yet!!!. I think its because he moved out of home far too young for my liking!!)

Director of Telstra Corporate Marketing, Inese Kingsmill, said younger adults, perhaps living on their own for the first time, often call home for household advice.

(Now I know this is so very true…our older son Woody calls home so many times about how to cook certain food, or ask about ways to cut cost on living expenses!!)

*  “I’m sure many mums can relate to the urgent phone call from their kids wanting to know how to remove red wine stains from the carpet or how to get lumps out of the gravy,” said Ms Kingsmill.

*  At a state level, six per cent of NSW mums reported screening their kids’ calls with 85 percent of mums agreeing that a call from their kids once a week is enough.

(I Prefer at least twice a week, but when he is out to sea I know that I can expect a call when he gets home!)

*  “Many of us probably feel like we don’t call our mum enough however according to the mums we surveyed most say their kids call often enough which is a relief to hear!,” said Ms Kingsmill.

(I am just grateful that he calls me. After all he is only 18 and is so grown up, but he still is my baby !!!)

*  “These days more mums are happy to be called on their mobile for the weekly catch up and increasingly they are enjoying video calls too – in fact 12 per cent of NSW mums we surveyed like receiving video calls from their kids and grandkids,” said Ms Kingsmill.

*  “Advances such as 4G and the NBN will allow an increasing number of mums and grandmothers interact and watch their kids and grandkids grow up, no matter where they live. Phoning home will take on a new meaning as technology advances.”

By Telstra :: Young people call their mums the most, for the most annoying reasons.

• 39 per cent of people aged 18-25 call their mum everyday

• But this age group call with the most annoying problems (according to mums) – 13 per cent call when they need something from their mum

• In fact, mums say their least favourite reason for a call is when their child wants something

• They are also the most mobile, with 30 per cent calling their mum when they’re out and about, compared to just seven per cent of 35-44 year olds

• Not surprisingly, 81 per cent of this age group thinks they call their mum enough

Younger mums feel their kids call enough,

but are needier and more likely to avoid their kids.

• 70 per cent of mums aged 40-44 years say their kids call enough, compared to 57 per cent of those aged 55-64 years who say the same

• What’s enough? More mums aged 40-44 want their kids to call every day (37 per cent) compared to just seven per cent of mums aged 55-64 who wish the same

• Mums aged 40-44 don’t seem to want to be hassled with constant requests. Zero mums aged 40-44 saying they’d like their kids to call if they need something, and mums in this age group are more likely to ignore their kids calls than anyone else (seven per cent)

• It’s best to reach mums aged 40-44 on the mobile – 67 per cent said they’d prefer to be called on the mobile than the landline

Older parents want regular calls on the landline

from their kids checking up on them.

• While most mums across Australia want their kids to call for a chat, older mums aged 65+ are twice as likely to want their kids to call to check up on them than any other age group

• On the other side of the coin, people aged 65+ with surviving parents are the most likely to call their mums to check up on them (47 per cent)

• And they’re the age group that wants their calls on the landline most, with 72 per cent preferring this option. However, a web savvy eight per cent say they’d like their kids to call on Skype, Facetime or Google Talk

In general:

Australians love calling their mums.

• 50 per cent of survey respondents call their mum once or twice a week, with another 20 per cent calling mum every day

• Almost three quarters of us (71 per cent) call just for a chat

• Only 15 per cent of us would ever ignore a call from mum

It seems we’re keeping mum happy.

• 60 per cent of mums say their kids call enough

• What’s enough? 71 per cent of mums say one or twice a week is sufficient

• And nine out of 10 mums just want us to call for a chat

Women are better than men at keeping in touch with their mums.

• 25 per cent of females call their mums every day, compared to just 15 per cent of males

• And women generally spend more time on the phone – 33 per cent talk to their mum for between 10 and 30 minutes, compared to 28 per cent of men who talk for the same length of time

• Blokes feel a little guilty about it though – 32 per cent say they don’t call their mum enough, compared to 29 per cent of women who say the same

• But it could be fellas’ own fault, with 16 per cent admitting they avoid their mum’s call, compared to 14 per cent of ladies who do
