Today Kyle and I escaped from our Motorhome! Escaped from life and joined the Mackay Natural homeschooling Group for a great fun refreshing morning at Finch Hatton Gorge.
It was something that both Kyle and I was so looking forward to, as well as wondering what it was going to be like. I have been there many years ago but that was when our oldest son/Zachery was little. I had forgotten how pretty the drive up was…..
Driving through Eungella National Park ~
Through small waterways.
Gorgeous Drive to Finch Hatton ~
Over little water ways that looked so fresh and inviting.
When we arrived we thought we might be a bit late, but in actual fact we were early. By the time we decided which swimming hole to head to, Kyle was really keen to get there.
We walked about 20 minutes along tracks that looked like this….
Then we came down to views that took our breathe away ::
If we had more time we would have stayed longer. Kyle stood on a piece of glass and cut his big toe open, without band-aids there wasn’t much I could do to stop the blood, and he was happy to be heading back to the car.
We also had things to do in Mackay (David needed more under body paint for the Side of the Motorhome) so we left about noon.
Its about 1 1/2 hours to get into Mackay.
Road Side Assistance
David has been working on our Car and it was driving smoother than ever before. And was even more economical with petrol. About 20 minutes before getting to Mackay I noticed that the car was pulling back. I was only doing about 80 (its a 100 zone) when it pulled back to 70. And then struggled to keep going.
I pulled over to let the trucks go by.
While pulled over I rang David to let him know what was going on…..he couldnt understand why it was happening?
I decided to try to get to Mackay, and then see if I could get back to our Motorhome.
As soon as I pulled back onto the highway the car wouldn’t even get up speed at all….and it was like it was bunny Hopping. Even Kyle asked if we were “Going to Bunny Hop all the way home”.
I tried to keep going. But it wouldnt pick up speed….as soon as I could pull over I did. I rang David again, and he couldn’t think of any reason why the car couldn’t gather speed. He suggested I ring RACQ, we have full cover.
They were so good over the phone, letting me know that they could locate where I was, and that they were sending out assistance as well as a tow truck. They had the best customer service that we have come across in sometime.
Road Side Assistance Drive By Style
While I was waiting (with Kyle) a guy pulled up… a really hot LOOKING guy.
Who gave us his road side assistance. He looked over the engine, and checked all of the obvious causes to why the car could lose power. He then took the car for a drive down the track next to the cane fields, to where I was parked. Pushing the car to 100, and then back to 80. She didnt miss a beat, and he suggested that I drive to Mackay, with him following behind.
I ran RACQ back and let them know that I had another amazing True Aussie pull over to help me out, and that I would no longer need them to come out (felt bad for wasting there time, but relieved to be back on the road). They were happy that I received help from a passerby.
I am amazed with how many wonderful people are coming into our life at the moment, helping us out.
Would you believe that the car drove all the way home without any issues at all! Not sure but the guy that pulled over and helped us out thinks that it could have been the fuel pump mucking up. Either that or it was the Water ways that I drove through – making the connections all wet which was making the car lose power.
All in all we had a good day out, David was able to get lots done on the Motorhome – finishing the window sills inside and re-sheeting the passenger side.
We got to be in a magical place, and met another True Aussie.
That makes our day so worth it.
And makes me wonder what is next in store for our life!
Have You Been To Finch Hatton Gorge?
Do You Believe in People Coming Into Your Life For A Reason?

Hi Angel,
The water is amazing around Finch Hatton Gorge. And it was so good to have someone to stop and help us out. He was the “True Aussie Spirit” 🙂
