Do you need to travel on a plane? If so which airline are you travelling with? Recently I travelled with Tiger Airways. Gosh was that an experience….normally I fly with Qantas, and love their service. But I have heard (online) that Flying With Qantas was out of the question for the last week or so.
People were left stranded in many airports across Australia as well as overseas. People slept on the floors of airports, on lounges or wherever they could! Many others tried to find other Airlines that they could fly with.
Flying with JetStar
Flying With Qantas
Funny but when I was in Brisbane Airport a few weeks ago I didn’t actually see any Qantas Planes – not saying that there wasnt any, just that I didn’t actually see any. I saw a lot of other airline carriers…from Jetstar, Tiger to Virgin, to even Suns. Usually I fly with Qantas, Jetstar or Virgin. Never been with Tiger before!!
Virgin – Lots of other airlines, but no Qantas?
What do you prefer to fly with? If I had to choose I would say Qantas, Jetstar, and then Virgin. I wouldn’t consider any of the other airlines as a company that offer good service. But what will happen to Qantas if they are no longer able to fly? What will happen to all of the workers that work with Qantas?
Flying with Tiger?
Here is a the information that I have come across while I was searching about Qantas…
Qantas was grounded on Saturday (last weekend) and left nearly 70,000 passengers stranded in 22 countries. My understanding is that the government stepped in, and has forced Qantas to fly again. That means that the employees of Qantas wont be locked out of their place of employment, people will be able to fly with Qantas and the tourist industry wont suffer!
But is it over?
So the Qantas flights are now back in the air, but what next? There still is a feeling of unease in the air. There is another company that is ready to launch called “Air Australia” – will they over take Qantas? Will that mean people who are working for Qantas will lose their job? What about the service? Will Air Australia be a service that is like “Tiger Airlines”???
I did a vlog on a review about flying with Tiger…
I would love to see Qantas staying in the air, because I believe that we need to support people in the work force. I also like the image of Qantas – they represent Australia.
What are your thoughts about Flying With Qantas?
Cheers
Lisa
This strike action and mucking people around is really going to affect qantas. I felt so sorry for those people left stranded because many of them probably saved a long time and felt so excited to begin a holiday of a lifetime and they couldn’t get there. They would have lost a lot of money. Not sure whether you remember Ansett many years ago did this and that company ended up going bust.

I’ve had good experiences with Qantas, especially on long flights to the UK. Having said that, Emirates are my favourite for doing long flights, in their new(ish) big plane – can’t remember the name of it, but it’s bigger than a standard jumbo and there’s more leg room 🙂

Hi Jan,
Wow – you went to the UK? How cool is that!
I like the sound of more leg room and flying in comfort/style. I think Qantas used to be the best airline to fly with, but now days there is more and more competition with other planes trying to have higher standards.

Lisa , you forgot one thing….. bring a toolbox to tighten up screws and bolts on the plane before takeoff. I like Virgin Blue as they often have a light hearted approach to life on board. Once I was flying into Melbourne from Brissy and as we were taxiing in , we applauded the cabin crew and the young bloke on the P.A system said that he’d been informed he got the clap which caused us passengers to erupt into laughter. We also had a game in which we were to guess the combined ages of the cabin crew which I was the closest and won a stubby holder . Also one of the ladies was looking for a suitor and us male passengers were to give her our phone numbers . So I wrote on a piece of paper and said,” soory I’m Married to which she gave me a smile. In all good fun .
Hi Terry,
I like the idea of the Toolbox!!!!
Wow – that Virgin Blue flight sure sounded like fun!! I like your style – handing her the piece of paper with “Sorry” on it 🙂
I like it when I hear good reviews on flying with a certain airline.

I did almost all of my early flights with QANTAS, and I had a soft spot for them, but I think in recent years they have slipped. Too many near-misses. Too expensive.
That said, I flew Tiger once and only once back in 2008 and swore never again. I thought I was going to die – and I enjoy flying and have done a lot of it.
Hi Amy,
I think Qantas used to be good! But there is so many other Airlines that are out there, and they are trying to make sure their service is just as good as Qantas. I think that Qantas is going to be either pushed out of the market, or it they will have to make sure their flights are cheaper but still have the high standard of service.
Cheers
Lisa
The last few times we’ve flown it’s been with Virgin or JetStar … much cheaper than QANTAS, and not as dodgy as Tiger.

Hi Amy,
Not sure that I would ever want to fly with Tiger Airlines ever again!! It sure was a very scary experience.
I reckon that Qantas used to dominate the market, but now there are many more airlines out there that are good with prices, and their services are just as good!!
Cheers

My experience with Qantas has been good both to Europe and USA despite their standards dropping a little with service and food. They are getting a little more expensive now though. Jetstar is similar
I heard that Virgin is not so bad especially if you are prepared with your own nice cut lunch. Thumbs seem to be up on Emirates too.
Sad to say everyone I know will not fly Tiger again. Even their programme showed their lack of flexibility – I’ve not yet tried them and probably never will.
Hi Nerisa,
Qantas used to be the one to fly with, no matter where you were going! Now days there are many other airline brands that are better value for money. Interesting times ahead for all of the airlines. I am not sure I would ever fly with tiger again 🙂
Cheers

I travelled with Qantas on the Thursday before the shutdown by Qantas management. I usually travel Virgin but they recently cut most of their flights (especially the early morning one) at Coffs.
When travelling I don’t usually go with Qantas because they are more expensive. Travelling last week, we got expensive food going down and coming back for a 1 hour flight. I didn’t need what they gave us so they could have saved money there.
I think they need to look at what they are offering and instead look at getting back to basics so they can continue to provide service to Australia
Hi Tania,
I think that Qantas will need to look at there services, and improve what they have to offer, because many other airlines are going to push them out of the market. I love the Qantas “Brand” but unless they can deliver a good service and value for money, then other airlines will dominate the market.
Cheers

We fly Qantaslink quite a bit, because it’s the only carrier from the airport where we live. We can travel an hour east and have Virgin as an option as well. I prefer Qantas, but do wonder where things are heading with them.

Hi Kellie,
Its funny how some airlines are good, and others are not so good. Qantas had such a great “Name” and people used to go out of there way to book with them. Now days its a matter of finding a service that is value for money, and also safe 🙂
Interesting times ahead for qantas!
Cheers

For domestic flights we always go Virgin. Love the price, the staff, the feeling on board, and the way they think outside the box with marketing. Tried jetstar once with disasterous results. International we flew Thai (fantastic) and Lufthansa (very impersonal and not helpful with the kids). Sam is a bit of a safety record nut so researched heavily before we flew to Europe. Haven’t flown Qantas in years, so no difference to us.
ciao lisa
Hi Lisa,
We like to go with virgin, or jetstar. Love how your hubby researched before you went to Europe – at least you knew that you were going to be safe.
Cheers

Hey Lisa, I must say that I am stoked to see the big kangaroo, Quantas, back in the air. I have flown with Virgin and Tiger before but I found that I only like paying once, not for every little extra thing you want 🙂 One day I will fly first class…just because I can…one day 🙂
