The other week we drove down to Maryborough {once again!!!} to meet up with a Homeschooling group who organised an outing to Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary. So glad we made it – our GPS took us to the wrong location at first so then I used my GPS on the phone, and 30 minutes late we finally arrived.
Our boys love meeting other homeschoolers, and they love Animals. So I knew that it was going to be a fantastic day out. And it was such a great little Sanctuary, one with many sweet enclosures, and one we could even walk through {which was very scary but I put on my big girl pants}

You have no idea how good it was to see this sign after the GPS directed us to Tiaro – 30 minutes past Maryborough! As I was driving I kept on saying “This doesn’t feel right” – Yep my gut instinct was right again!
He keeps on saying that he wants to open up a Zoo and have as many animals as possible, not too sure that he would want to work with Crocs anymore!!
Some of the Birds will say “Hello” as you walk on past them 🙂
Walking through these Gates, I was like “So Kyle, if an Emu starts to chase us down, I am so standing behind you, and I am out of here fast” !!! Luckily I was able to get over my scardy thoughts, and we walked in here all fine 🙂
I have heard so many stories of where Emu’s chase down people until they are able to get what they want, which is normally to do with food, so I guess we are safe because we left our cups of food on the outside of the fences!
They actually don’t have any wings to fly with and that is why they run so very fast.
Kyle was drawn to the Camel – and yes I did have Cameron with us, but for some reason he managed to avoid the camera every time I was taking pics!
I was surprised with how calm the Kangaroos were – there were big Daddy Boomers, along with all the Young Joeys {some just looked like they have left their Mamas Pouches} and we walked among them all – and they didn’t mind all of us homeschoolers!
Pythons kill their prey by constriction. Yep I am glad they are behind the glass and not standing next to us!
These very cute Sand Monitor was trying to get through the glass! He was climbing up to the top of his cage, and he was trying to get the lid of his box off, it was so very cute.
For a family pass its a very reasonable price. And I would have loved to do either {or both} the Snake Experience/Dingo Experience.
We had a blast down at the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary.

Oh, gosh, I love zoos and wildlife sanctuaries! There is something special about being near animals; they seem so uncomplicated compared to we humans. Maybe that’s one reason Kyle likes them so much. Besides the fact that they are just plain fun to feed. 🙂
I don’t blame you for being cautious around the emus but I’d have put on my big girl pants, too. The whole day looks like a fabulous adventure. I would love to visit.

This looks like a great zoo, so many Australian animals. I would have been afraid of the emus too, I went to a similar enclosure (except with kangaroos) once and believe it is best to err on the side of caution around potentially dangerous animals.
