On Friday we meet up with great friends. Friends who we havent seen since January 2011. We have kept in contact via phone, and text but have not had a chance to have coffee since we moved into our Motorhome and was on our way to Bundaberg.
Then when we got down to the Sunshine Coast we haven’t been able to find time to meet with each other.
It was so good to go to her house, and watch our boys have fun with my good friends boys. She has a boy the same age as Kyle, and one a few years younger.
They also have a big backyard, lots of toys, a swimming pool, a trampoline and a swing set! Our boys were also able to play inside on the Playstation – yep they were having so much fun that it was so very hard to get them to leave 🙂
Kyle and Nicholas sitting on the trampoline with one of their friends!
It’s funny watching our boys explore and play with toys that they used to have, but took for granted and now when they do come across those toys they really enjoy them. Mind you we have never had a Playstation before, nor do we want one!
Going Back In History To Spend Time With Friends
It amazes me that we are able to meet up with friends, have a coffee, and a chat and it feels like we have never been apart. I really enjoyed some “Down Time” – knowing that my boys were having fun, and I could have “Girly Time”.Â
It was also a great drive as my older son was able to get more experience behind the wheel, and add more hours to his log book.
I actually love being able to sit in the passenger sit while my older son drove me everywhere for the last week. It is so nice to be able to support my son with his driving, and relax in the car, instead of me having to drive everywhere!
More Time Going Back In History
Yesterday we drove back to where we used to own our house. NOW that was one big trip back in history. It was so weird driving through our old area, and seeing our old neighbours.
We used to live in a big old Queenslander, it was about 110 years old and was the original house for the D’aguilar area. Seeing the changes that were made to the outside of our house helped me with my questions that I have been having!
Cameron having fun at Ben and Gay’s house
~ See the wooden fence on Camerons left side
~Â That used to be our back yard!
Yet we never had a wooden fence…we had a wire fence, and a gate so that we could come down to Ben/Gay’s farm when ever we wanted to 🙂
It has helped to quieted down the “inner” questions that I have been going through…the questions of “Should we have sold our house?” or “Should we be travelling in our Motorhome instead of living in a home”!
Going For A Bush Walk
Spending time with horses
We love animals – and this was so magical!
The best part of yesterday was having lunch with our old neighbours that we used to be able to see from our backyard. Our ex-house in D’aguilar backed onto 10 acres. Where Ben and Gay owned horses and chickens (plus many other animals that they no longer have!)
We were so lucky as we got to have a BBQ lunch sitting on their back verandah, overlooking the bush land. There were chickens roaming free, ducks in and out of the water, horses in the next paddock, and the most amazing peaceful scenery but yet we didn’t have the responsibility of any of it!!
Visiting our friends Ben and Gay gave us a chance to see horses up close.
Nicholas and Kyle are patting one of the horses in the background.
These two horses were given to Ben and Gay ~ and are now very well loved!
While we were waiting for coffee, I looked up the hill and could see our ex-neighbours in their yard!! I walked up to their back yards, and had a few moments to catch up.
Our family got to experience “Farm Life” with Ben and Gay!
Cameron is patting the horses, while Nicholas is talking with Ben.
Kyle is behind Cameron ~Â waiting for his chance to pat the horses.
If you live in a house, then that is not what I am having a go at. Its more about living in a different way! We like our Motorhome even though it is small 🙂
The trees are amazing at Ben/Gay Farm – they must be over 100 years old…
they are gorgeous 🙂
We had the best time with our gorgeous friends/ex-neighbours. We love spending time with Ben and Gay as they live a life for of adventure.
Even though they have their home and 10 acres, and they are in their late 60’s they are still very active. Both work full-time jobs, both take trips to England and America every year.
Both travel all over Australia to see family and friends when they want to. Both could easily out walk David and I in a bush walk!!! Both still ride horses, and are very active with their Grandchildren. They are almost like a second family for our boys 🙂
We went for a walk with family to see the Bush Lemon Tree!
The same tree that Gay used to give us lemons from….
David used to make Lemon Butter with them!
We had the best time Going Back In History To Spend Time With Friends. We loved every minute of our time at D’aguilar yesterday.
David made this yummy Lemon Meringue Pie….
We had this after our BBQ lunch…perfect way to end a perfect day 🙂
What Do You Like About Going Back In History?
Cheers

PLEASE NOTE:- I have edited this blog post. As I wrote without thinking about how my words sounded. I meant to say that I was glad that I no longer had to worry about our House and our yard with the up keep. I did not mean to hurt anyone with how I wrote about what has changed within me.
I meant that I no longer wanted the responsibility of a house/yard. I meant that we could not afford the up-keep of our house/our yard. We are living in a Motorhome. It is small. I like that because I don’t have to worry about the housework.Â
I never ever said I was perfect – I am far from perfect. I am not saying that I am a person better then anyone. Never ever would I think that. I meant that I did not want the mortgage nor the stress of owning a house.
I know that I can’t take back what I wrote – and I cant take back by saying sorry. But I have deleted everything from here that I did say because I never ever wanted to hurt anyone. That is not my intention. New Life on the Road is where I share how much I have changed, how much my family has changed, and how we are living a different life because we don’t want to be living in a house. We don’t want a yard that we have to take care of.
That is all I can say. I can’t say anything to change what has been done, but I can learn from now on that I need to write my words carefully.
I wonder what we wil think if we go back to our suburban home. It is rented because we didn’t sell it.
It was great you had that time with your friends. They sound very active for their age.

I never realised your home was surrounded with so much bushland how wonderful. Although I grew up in a suburban home with a tiny yard I also had neighbors who were my adopted grandparents….Mrs Connell taught me to knit and Mr Connell repaired old typewriters and would show me how they came apart. I had a charmed childhood even though we went through some rough stuff. The one thing I miss for my children is having that long time experience of neighbors, yet we have stayed in touch with all 20 or so that we have had.
Knowing you Lisa as I have got to do, I can’t imagine you ever intentionally intending to hurt a flea. It is hard to write from the heart and see how your words could hurt if those thoughts aren’t in your consciousness. Brava for taking the feelings of those dear to you straight on board and withdrawing the words that were misunderstood!
sending love and I know you write with heart!

It looks like you had a perfect day at your old neighbours house and I absolutely love the look of that lemon meringue pie.

What a lovely blog post Lisa. I believe we all go through stages in our lives and we make decisions for a reason. We just have to know that what ever decision we have made it has brought us to where we are today. We can only ever look forward. Remember the past but look forward. It is great to go back and catch up with great friends though. xo
