Happy 10th Birthday To Our Young Man

happy 10th birthday

Rainbow Beach 2010

Today our fourth boy turns 10. It’s amazing to think that he is now getting into the double digits. Yet it seems like only yesterday he was born – where did the time go? Happy 10th Birthday To Our Young Man.

10 years ago I was laying in hospital – stunned over what had just happened. He was born during the night (I wish I could remember the exact time but I do know it was about 1.30 in the morning!) After being in labour all day long, a doctor thought it was time to break our waters. Yet a midwife was standing behind the Doctor saying “No – she is not ready yet”…I so wish that I had been strong enough to say “Wait – Dont break them yet”.

You Were So Safe

You didn’t want to come. Maybe you felt so safe inside of my belly, because you sure had no desire to come into this world. The hospital let me go over by two weeks, yet you still did not want to come. So we were booked into the hospital to be induced. I had already been induced with your brother Nicholas so I was not scared about any of it. But I did feel that you were bigger then any of my other babies…gosh I so wished someone had listened to me!

Cameron Loves To Follow his big brothers!

Still You Stayed Where You Felt Safe

Even after walking all day long, having hot showers for pain relief, doing everything to help bring you on, nothing was working! So the nice lady doctor thought it would be good to break your waters. So wished I had of listened to the midwife. Once your waters were broken I felt really strange. My tummy started to go down…like really down…it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen – it was like it was shrinking and no one could work out why. I decided to hop back into the shower because the pain was becoming too much. The midwife brought in the heart monitor but she couldn’t pick up a good reading.

She ducked out and came back in with another heart monitor (she thought the other one wasn’t working). Again we couldn’t get a good reading. I was put back onto the bed (gosh it’s so uncomfortable laying down when you have such a big baby inside!) and they strapped on monitors to my belly. Your heart rate was dropping at a fast rate.

The midwife started to press all sorts of buttons, and before I knew what was going on, there was doctors/midwives everywhere and lots of fast talking. Within minutes my head was lower than my legs, paper work was quickly given to me to sign (to this day I have no idea what I signed!) and there was a lot of “Quick – let’s get her down to surgery”…I do remember your Daddy going green, and some one had to give him a chair to sit on!

You see when your waters were broken, your cord came out. This was not something that I have ever heard of before!

Within minutes we were racing down the corridors, with a mask on my face, and people yelling everywhere. I was told to breathe deeper to help give you more oxygen. I was scared…I didnt even get to see David as he had to be whisked off to be cleaned up and given a gown to put on (mask, hat, shoe covers…he looked so funny!)

Happy 10th Birthday Cameron!

Within minutes you were out. I remember asking one of the nurses when were they going to start the C-section…they all laughed because you were out, and were over the other side of the room. I kept thinking “If he is out, why isn’t he crying”? I never realised that they were working on you. Your temps were dangerously low (never knew that having low temps was dangerous?) and they were trying to warm you up. When they were cutting my belly open they started to place bets on how big you were going to be…the biggest bet one of the midwife got to was 10IBs.

You were bigger – you were 10IB 13 oz….to look at you now you would never have guessed!

I never got to hold you when you were born.

I never got to see you for the first six hours.

I was given a photo and that was it.

Within minutes you were in the special care unit – I was briefly taken in to see you on my way to my hospital bed. I don’t remember much of the first few hours – it is very much a blur. I do remember having a reaction to the emergency c-section – maybe it was the Epidural as I have never had one before!

cameron birthday

This is so Cameron – he is so funny!

I am just so glad that you made it out safe, and I am so grateful that you are now celebrating your 10th Birthday. Today you turn 10, but sometimes I think you have been here before because you are wiser than your years.

You are very special to our family – maybe your brothers realise how lucky we are to have you in our family, because they all seem to look out for you in different ways. You have the most amazing funny sense of humour, and I cant wait to see what you become when you are older….but for the moment I am enjoying your age, and I love how you complete our family.

Happy 10th Birthday Cameron – Love you heaps little man!

    Hi Lisa,
My First born is also Cameron he turned 39 in October and was a C section as were all my babies only Cameron was 5LB 15oz his was an emergence as well and I remember nothing of any of the births as then it was always a general anesthetic, and I didn’t see Cameron for 24 hours, didn’t even get to hold him for 36 hours.
So you are so lucky to have memories of seeing them straight away.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMERON!!!

Your birthday is really the anniversary of your Birth Day – The day your mother gave birth to you, and one she will never forget. Your birth helped her to remember her own strength and that she always knows what to do. I am very lucky that I have heard this story from her, told from her in her very own words and with great love.

Celebrate your life with lots of fun, laughter, gratitude… And hopefully all the things you love to eat!

    Love,
    Lina xx

Wow Lisa, that is some story, it really brought a tear to my eye. Children grow up so fast, I’m sure you’re enjoying every moment you can with them.

I remember when my first born was a baby, and she was howling in the supermarket. I was tired and just wanted to get home, and this older lady said to me, ‘enjoy it love, they grow up so quickly’! Wasn’t what I wanted to hear at the time, but it’s so true :).

Happy 10th birthday Cameron. Hope it was an awesome one.

OH yeah I can so imagine that it was not what you wanted to hear {from the lady in the supermarket} but she is so very wise cause they sure do grow up far too fast xxx

It is amazing how quickly they grow up. You sure did have a tough time of it Lisa. In those situations you just have to trust that everything will work out okay and thank goodness it did. Having a reaction to the epidural was just the last thing you needed.
Happy birthday to your precious boy.
