On Friday we had to drive down to Brisbane area for the weekend and we were so very lucky to be able to stay with gate crush our friends property!
We have stayed with our friends before, and I know that they are super busy with moving but because I had to be at the Massage Course in Fortitude Valley both days, and we are no longer on the Sunshine Coast I was racking my brains for ages how to manage the drive down {it was over 5 hours Drive down!!! – Too many toilet breaks}, where to stay, what to do with David and our boys.
So I texted my friends asking pleading if we could be a pain in the back side and stay there. I knew that they would have heaps of Jobs to keep David busy, and our boys LOVE their five children so I knew they would have lots to do {yeah Kyle spent the whole weekend covered in mud so now I have 6,000 loads of washing to do but the smile on his face made up for my big dummy spit about him going to bed with dirty feet!!!}
And they were kind enough to take us in. Last time we went there {way too long between seeing them} they had only just started looking at moving. Now they have done so very much in that time frame – they have concrete floors, a wall in pantry, a outdoor Kitchen, almost have a swimming pool ready, fences around the property to keep the dogs in and separate the house from the paddocks. I was spun out with how much they have done!
They sure know how to take Homesteading With Style {In Australia} to the next level! They have so much laying around that they have used to their advantage. On the way home David was saying “every time I want to make something with their Steel they have enough laying there in the big shed for the job needed” 🙂
So yes David built them shelves in the kitchen, Moved their furniture in the House, and helped around as much as possible. As well as Looked after our Boys during the day, and cooked our dinner at night – I am emotionally and physically drained every day after Massaging {Deep Tissue/Sports/Remedial} – giving and receiving is a lot on the Body!
The style of the Kitchen means that the light from the windows makes it easier to cook with – and adds more space!
Kyle has wanted a Bee Hive for such a long time – we have borrowed so many books at the Library on Bees {and for a kid that doesn’t like reading he will sit there and listen to us reading for ages} and has been begging David to make a Bee Hive box for so very long but he kept on saying that it would be easier to find/buy one then make it.
The law of attraction works so very well every single time – our Friends Dad was there on the Saturday night and he was sharing with David all he knew about Bee Hives and raising Bees. One thing led to another thing and before we knew it our Friends Dad was “Gifting” Kyle a Bee Hive from his Shed. So yes we went down with a lot of Stuff and we came back with more!
But gee how lucky is Kyle? He is now out there in the Mens Cave with David, fixing it up – a few of the frames are broken and need mending. Not sure how or where we are going to get Bees – not sure how to even make a Bee Hive work but thats the beauty of our Homeschooling Style – we will google it, youtube it and borrow as many books as possible on what Kyle needs to do with his Bee Hive. And once his business is up and running successfully he will be selling the honey, and when the time is right will give the Bee Hive to a local Bee Keeper!
So we stayed with our friends, we had a lot of laughs – OH I so can’t wait to upload to our YouTube Channel something David was crazy enough to do! And we got to learn more about Homesteading with style {In Australia} from our amazing Friends.
We also got to cross off another Bucket List destination yesterday – which I will share soon.
Would You Downsize To Live Back To Basic?
I Love the idea of Homesteading – living with less stuff is actually living with more – and we would love to turn our Shipping Container into a Spare Bedroom – and eventually look at making either a Shed/House/Shipping Container House/Mud Brick House or something like that for our “Home Base” but still continue on with travelling.
To Our Friends – Thanking you so much for having us stay over on the weekend – I know you guys are so super busy but you still made the time for us – we love you guys.
Cheers
Lisa
New Life on the Road
Sounds like you had an awesome time Lisa. Glad the boys got dirty!
Kyle certainly was blessed to have a bee hive given to him, and now tat he has somewhere to house some bees I’m sure some will come along in the not too distant future. It’s not a bad way to go into business for Kyle, and will keep him busy. Lovely natural raw honey is great, and yours will be home made. Hope he doesn’t charge you too much 😬
Love your idea of a shipping container (or 2) being turned into a house, wouldn’t mind living that way myself.
Look forward to your next post – curious as to what it is you have crossed off your bucket list!
Jenny
Yeah we had a blast – and our boys! Gosh did they get dirty, even Cameron who never gets out and about in the dirt did!
Kyle is so very lucky, and he is so excited to be starting his own Bee Hive Company 🙂
Yeah I hope we can get the honey at a Cheap Price!
We have now shared our bucket list location…you won’t believe that its the very same place you shared on your blog!
Don’t know if I could do it (again) but always fascinating to see how other folk live!

Really cool shed. Clean and organize. I need to do that to my steel shed.
Preparing for a remodeling project is a lot like preparing to buy a car. You may know the room and style you want, but the options you choose may drive the price higher than you can reasonably afford. But there are ways to stretch the remodeling budget and end up with stylish results within budget.
