Yep we really did! David purchased two new batteries a few months back, and added it to our two that were already installed. So that we had Four Batteries.
He didn’t think about changing the design that was already in place – there was a spot for four so he placed them in. We had “The Man of the House” (of where we were staying in Sarina) to install them…and we travelled fine from Sarina to Bundaberg without any issues.
Then when we had all the running around to get our Motorhome approved for registration, the batteries moved inside the casing that they were sitting in.
One evening David and his Dad was walking back into the Motorhome after it had been to the Mechanics. David walked up to the Battery Compartment, and he thinks that by standing on the door it put pressure onto the frame work which then Blew Up The Battery….Literally.
The blast lifted the cover up off the floor, lifting David. The noise was loud – and we are so very grateful that NO-ONE was hurt!
Luckily the cover was on and the battery leaked the contents down onto the spare wheel instead of all through the Motorhome.
David took the battery out of the Motorhome asap, grabbed a whole box of Bi-Carb Soda, and sprinkled it all over the split liquid. He also quickly disconnected the next battery because he could hear that one was about to explode!
This is the battery that blew up – and the casing that was surrounding it! Now its gone to the bin. (the battery was disposed of by being taken to the recycle place)
Then he spent time re-building the frame work so that he never ever waste money on a Battery again, and never ever blow one up. Which means we now have a “New Life” on where the batteries are sitting! By the time David is finished Renovating our Motorhome nearly everything will be “New”, rebuilt or replaced.
He re-built the battery compartment so now that our four batteries (we had to buy another one last week) can sit safely together without shorting out!
When David Told Me “Honey, We Blew Up The Battery” I thought He Was Joking!
Guess There Is A First Time For Everything.
Have You Had A Battery Explode Before?
If so tell us your story here…..
Q :: There is one part of our Motorhome that David has not worked on (yet). Can you guess which part?
