Lake Tabourie New South Wales

Posted by on June 23, 2014

On Sunday we took a drive down to Lake Tabourie New South Wales, to see where David used to go fishing/Camping way before he got married and had kids! We still can’t work out exactly how long ago that was but think it was about 22-23 years ago!

Lake Tabourie New South Wales ::

So glad we went on Sunday with the weather being so sunny and warm for the time of the year, and with the day staying so nice.

Lake Tabourie is a small village in the South Coast region of New South Wales, Australia and is within the City of Shoalhaven local government area.

Perfect spot for a day of fun

DAVID AND KYLE WALKING ON THE BEACH

While I walked behind {David and Kyle sure can walk fast!!} Cameron stayed behind to dig with his shovel…he prefers to sit on the beach while we love to walk it :)

playing in the beach

KYLE PLAYING IN THE WATER EVEN WITH IT BEING SO COL

It was freezing {even though the sun was out the water was so cold} but that did not stop Kyle. He is our beach baby for sure.

Rock fishing

DAVID SAID HE USED TO FISH OFF THAT ROCK

When the tide was right David used to walk from the Beach to the Rock, and Fish off the top of the Rocks. He remembers one time where the tide came in so high that he was standing on the top of the right hand side, fishing with the waves right near him….he almost had to camp there over night, lucky for him the tide went out and he could wake back to the beach!

Beach Project

BEACH PROJECT AT LAKE TABOURIE BEACH

Did you all see the Beach Project idea that we have going down!!! Its to see how far and wide #newlifeontheroad tag can get…how many different places everyone can take a photo of a beach with the tag line – see the Beach Project Tag for more information!

Camping Spot

KYLE LOOKING OUT AT THE CAMPING SPOT

David took us up a track, a wet slippery track/wooden steps that lead to this Camping Spot. A camping spot that is no longer allowed to be used as a camping spot because too many people stayed there, using the ground as a toilet and cutting down trees for fire wood.

But there is another Camping Spot that David discovered when he went on a walk by himself.

Lookout from the Camping Spot

BEAUTIFUL LOOKOUT

Could you imagine camping in such a perfect spot? Listening to the waves and waking up in the morning for a beach walk? Shame it had to be shut down.

Glad that David decided to go for a walk down the bush track and discovered another two camping spots…sorry I don’t have any pictures of the other camping area, maybe another time!

Kyle sitting for a moment, thinking

WONDERING WHAT HE WAS THINKING?

Cameron and Kyle fishing

CAMERON AND KYLE FISIHING

After our big walk on the beach Kyle was keen to head back to Lake Tabourie for a spot of fishing….where they both had so much fun. We were so very fortunate to meet another Fishing Family who were regulars to the spot, they gave both boys Bread to use on the hooks which is what they use to catch all of their fish each time!

Kyle loves fishing

I THINK KYLE IS GOING TO BE A FISHERMAN WHEN OLDER

We have spent the last week nearly every day Fishing……Kyle loves it. We have got into a really good routine Homeschooling in the morning, cleaning the Motorhome very quickly and heading to the Beach for a spot of walking/fishing. He is getting pretty good at it!

CAMERON NOW LOVES FISHING

Caught a fish

CAMERON CAUGHT A FISH USING PIPPYS

While David, Kyle and I was walking on the Beach we came across all of these Pippys that were coming in with the tide, and Kyle was picking up as many as possible to carry back to the Lake for fishing. Its what Cameron and Kyle was catching their fish with.

Happy at catching a fish

HIS SMILE SAYS IT ALL

Both boys only caught little fish, not sure if they kept catching the same one over and over?? Maybe!

Backpackers on the beach

LOOKS LIKE ANTS WALKING

David spotted these Backpackers walking across the entrance from the lake to the Beach…I took a photo and then realised that they look like ants walking across!!!

Back packers

MORE BACKPACKERS

Do you think they would notice if I slipped a Back pack on and joined the group??? Like how much fun they would be having…we all were making up stories of what they were doing, where they were going and were they were going to stay overnight.

I reckon that they were hiking from Camping Spot to Camping Spot! And that they were a Tour Group together, exploring the Lake Tabourine area.

He wants a fishing rod

CAMERON LOVED THE DAY

Fishing hand reel

KYLE FISHING WITH A HAND REEL

Boat ride

BOAT RIDE ANYONE?

I love watching the ripples a Boat gives when it goes past….and the feel of the dock rising and lowering in the water. Not sure if its a good effect for when one is fishing.

Do you see in the distance the sand bar?

Well when David went for his walk to find the track he used to drive his car on, he bumped into a “Rural Fire Brigade ” for the local fire station, who explained that Lake Tabourie was way too high, higher than it is allowed to get to and there is more rain on the way.

SO on Tuesday a bob cat is coming in and is going to open up the lake to the Beach, to let the water levels drop. Wished I could be down there on Tuesday to see that event. It would be a great Homeschooling lesson for the boys while I would also enjoy watching how the lake changed.

Lake Tabourie Caravan Park

LAKE TABOURIE CARAVAN CAMPING GROUNDS

As I watched the boat going by I realised that there was a Caravan Park in the back ground…I looked up Lake Tabourie Caravan Park and was stunned at the prices of over night stay, and weekly fees!!! Gosh Not sure who would stay there in peek times?

Lake Tabourie Fishing spot

PERFECT WAY TO END A PERFECT DAY

The day was perfect in so many ways….the sun was out, the wind was not too strong, the spot was magical and both boys had so much fun fishing.

I can’t wait to return there again another day….mind you not sure when that will be because there are so many magical spots calling our name!

Have You Been To Lake Tabourie New South Wales?

Do you have a favorite spot that you used to visit before children/marriage that you can’t wait to return to? This was a first for me and both our boys, and David had a wonderful time with memories.

Cheers

Again lovely photos. This blog is such a wonderful way of recording your lives. Imagine looking back on it in ten years. Much better than a photo album! Still haven’t been to the beach to get that photo for you. School holidays are coming up though :)

      Hi Shah,

It is one Spot that we could easily return to every weekend!!! It was such a pretty spot, so very healing. I searched on Google “Canberra to Lake Tabourie” and its telling me 2 hours 27 mins. There are two camping spots near the beach {we think they are free but we couldn’t work it out!} as well as the Caravan Park {mind you it was very pricey} Be a great place for your family to enjoy.

      Cheers

My first ever camping trip (in a tent) was at Lake Tabourie with my now husband. It would have been in late 1990 or early 1991. After that we used to go to Kioloa, which is not far down the road from there.

We love the photos of the boys as always, Lisa! But, I gotta tell you if I could get Phoenix down there and me with taking a leave of absence from work for his remaining years. We would be on that beach every day playing. That just became my dream location for him and I that can never happen. *sigh* Thank you so much for this beautiful post and btw…what camera and lens are you using, our dear friend?? :)

      Hi Mike,

We love exploring, wished I could do more of it :)

I got really slack for awhile and was using my phone for pictures but I realised that I really enjoy taking photos so now I am using my Canon E05 1100D more often, with my favorite lens – EFS 55-250mm

I so could see Phoenix running on that beach and playing there – you both would love it :)

Maybe one day you will visit down under, if you ever do let me know cause I will be at the airport waiting for you guys with Balloons!!! Love sent to Phoenix, he is my hero xxx
