Let It Rain

We are singing! Let It Rain, Let It Rain, Let it keep on raining because we need it here. Instead of “Let It Go” its now our theme song for around these parts of Australia.

Being on tank water, and watching the Dam water drop {the dam is for the gardens and flushing the toilets in the two houses on the property} we have been very concerned about the level of both tanks – oh and the pool takes 1/2 tank to refill each time!

Yesterday David came home from work and we were over the moon to spend some much needed quality time together.

So last night it started to rain heavy and we were trapped in our Motorhome but with smiles on our dials because we knew the tanks were going to over flow, the dam would be full and the cows would have more green grass to eat.

We had to drive into┬áBundaberg today – and we were not sure if we would make it back again? The road was under in about six different sections.

Let It Rain

THE DAM IS NOW OVERFLOWING

David got up early this morning and took this picture – waking me up to show me how full the dam was. He was so excited!

Let it Fill Up the Dam

THE FRONT SECTION IS FULL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AGES

Yep this was so dry that the cows were walking into it and all we could see was their heads poking out. Now its full of water and the dam is running off onto the grass. Makes us all smiles čÖé

Dam is full

KYLE IS ITCHING TO GET DOWN THERE AND HAVE A CANOE RIDE IN THE DAM

Hay Bale Garden Was So Dry Before the rain

THE GARDEN THAT DAVID GREW SO NEEDED THIS RAIN

We haven’t been able to water this garden for over a week because we knew the Dam was too low, and David was pulling out the dead Kale and Rocket, now he hopes the rest will survive – its been so very hot here in Bundaberg that most of the plants are not doing too well.

With the Hay Bale Gardens we will be using the Hay to put under the Mango trees when they are no longer able to stand up by themselves.

Let It Rain

THE ROAD WAS UNDER SO MANY TIMES ON THE WAY INTO BUNDABERG

Clean Up TIme

THE COUNCIL TRUCK WAS SENT OUT TO CLEAN UP THE CANE TRASH OFF THE ROADS

The Bundaberg Council don’t muck around! They had a truck out cleaning off the Cane Trash and seeing if the roads were safe enough for cars to drive on. By the time we were coming back to our motorhome the roads were clear.

The roads went under

THE ROADS WERE UNDER BOTH SIDES ON THIS SECTION

Cars were slowing down, and were taking care to keep driving safely. The roads were under on both sides in this section so we all slowed down and moved over as much as possible to let the cars pass us all.

After we went shopping {had to get a Laundry Hamper and a new phone} we stopped to see the Fish Ladder, which was under! Well not the ladder as such but the walk way over to the other side, and the rocks surrounding the ladder.

Kyle and David walking down to the Fish Ladder

WE HAVE NEVER EVER NOTICED THIS SIGN BEFORE! BUT WE STILL CAREFULLY WALKED DOWN TO THE FISH LADDER

The Barge is under water

WE NORMALLY CAN WALK OVER THE BARGE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER

Last week we canoed in this River, and walked over the Fish Ladder, on the Rocks and was even able to canoe right up to the end of the Fisher Ladder. Today I wouldn’t like to be in the river at all!

Fish Ladder water is high

FAST FLOWING WATER OVER THE BARGE

Kyle asked to walk out to the fish ladder and see if the entrance was under. We both said a firm “Nope” because the water over the concrete was very fast, and we could easily see him slip in and be washed away.

Fast Flowing River

SUCH A FAST FLOW WHERE EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING WAS SWEEPING ON DOWN

The rocks are under the flood

KYLE PLAYED ON THESE ROCKS LAST WEEK

Normally Kyle climbs all over these Rocks {and so do we} to get out onto the Fish Ladder. The other day we were out in our Canoe and our oldest Son was able to walk the length of the fish ladder to climb onto the back of the canoe.

Kyle was able to climb out of the canoe onto the fish ladder and explored the rocks before we moved close enough to pick him back up. And yeah we rode the canoe with five of us in it which was way too many people but luckily we made it back to shore safely!

Here is a Video of us Visiting The Fish Ladder a Few Years Ago ::

Now I wouldn’t go in there for anything! The river is flowing fast, and it makes you realise how if you were stuck in the middle of the flood you wouldn’t be able to get out of it easily.

Scary how fast the water is flowing

WONDERING IF THIS CHAIR WAS WASHED UP OR IF SOMEONE DUMPED IT HERE?

With all the rain we have David is able to stay home with us and we are loving it. He never ever takes time off work – he even works when he is not feeling the best – so to be forced to take time off work is gold for us, and I think he is enjoying the down time. Because its wet at home he can’t work on his parents farm, and he can’t even work on the Tree House, or on the Motorhome roof!!

We are so going to keep on saying “Let It Rain” for the rest of the week, we love having “Daddy” home to spend time exploring more of Bundaberg with us.

Have You Got Rain?

Cheers

Lisa
