Everyone keeps asking us what do we need to Live In A Motorhome, and what do we pack for our Children! It’s a bit like living in a house, but only on a smaller scale. A much smaller scale.
Live In A Motorhome Full Time
So life is very much the same as if we were living in a House, but I guess at the same time it might be a bit different. We still have everything that we need – a stove top, a convection Oven (which we use nearly every night for cooking dinner), a shower, a bed, a fridge, a sink, cupboards and water!
The Outside of our Motorhome ~
When it was cleaned up and not raining!
We love living in our Motorhome, but it does take a bit of planning to get it all right.
Today I woke up with the idea of cleaning out every cupboard and re-arranging everything so that it fit’s more easily, and was sorted so that when we get the call to move on we can!
Amazingly I found one huge garbage bag full of rubbish, and one garbage bag full of clothes that our boys have out grown (lifeline would love us by now!). So that has made our bus a bit lighter. We do have weight restrictions – which I need to consider because if we pass any weighbridges then we need to pull in, and have our bus weighed!
Not sure how much we can carry, but I do know that when we have a trailer/car behind we have to watch how much is inside our Motorhome.
Living in A Motorhome Means Living With Less
We do live with less, but we make do with what we have got.
There is one set of spare single sheets, our boys have 2 towels in their own colours, and our big queen size bed has one set of sheets.
We have enough China plates for the six of us, and enough bowls for Breakfast.
If we need more plates/bowels/knives and forks then we do have a picnic set that is under the lounge for when needed.
Our fridge is smaller than what we are used to, but we make do!
Our Motorhome Fridge ~
Much smaller than we are used to!
The only thing we have noticed is that we can not keep lots of bread as it will go mouldy really quickly 🙁
Our Clothes Situation:-
- Each of our boys have a shelf each. I have just gone through it today, and realised that Nicholas, Cameron and Kyle all need more shorts, but have too many t-shirts!
Nicholas, Cameron and Kyle clothes ~
Each of our boys have a shelf for their clothes, toys and school work!
A New Update :: David has fixed the cupboards so that our boys are able to store clothes easier!
Towels:-
- Each of our boys have a different coloured towel. Which makes it easy for when its shower time. Zachery has light brown, Nicholas has Red, Cameron has dark Brown and Kyle has purple. They have 2 towels – one for using, and one for storage.
Fridge:-
- David does shopping once a week and usually we have to do Fruit n Veggies twice a week. Our Fridge will only hold so much, and our boys love eating!
Pantry Cupboards:-
- We don’t actually have a Pantry Cupboard so we use under the kitchen sink, above the gas stove top and above the kitchen benches to store our food. For longer periods of time (where there is no shops) we are thinking about building another Big Cupboard as well as putting a freezer in the boot!
Our Food is stored under our Kitchen Sink ~
We really need a pantry!
Our Spices are stored above the Gas Top
School Supplies:-
- Each of our boys have room on their shelf (where their clothes are) to store their School Supplies. They also have a smaller cupboard in the kitchen (next to the boys bunk beds) to store books and DVD’s in.
Toys:-
- The only toys we really like to take with us is Lego. Recently I went garage Sale hunting (about a week ago) and brought a few items for our boys to play with. If we are not able to store the items in the cupboards then we will be giving them to children that are in the Caravan Park
Kyle and Cameron love playing with Lego ~
They don’t need many toys as they make their own fun 🙂
Lounge Storage:-
- The lounges have storage undernearth each one – really good for smaller items such as books. Our boys are crazy about reading, so we
takebuy as many books as possible!
Under The Queen Size Bed:-
- About 3/4 of the boot is storage. David made a Storage box with a door that opens onto the floor. In there we are able to store our luggage (our bags that we use when travelling by plane), our towels, blankets and spare sleeping bags.
In The Boot:-
- In the Boot of the Bus is where our Washing Machine is set up. It also holds David’s work tools as well as the wood that he has set aside to renovate the inside of the Motorhome.
Why Do You Live In A Motorhome?
That is also a question that we get a fair bit. There is not one sentence to answer that question…but I can say this “Why Do You Live in a Home”?
Because we want to!
Would You Like To Live in a Motorhome?
Cheers

Hi Jan,
It feels amazing – to have such little things to tie us down – such a weight off our shoulders!

Very interesting read. You sure do have a lot of food! I can’t wait to start kitting out our caravan! Bring it on!!!
Hi Lee,
We have four hungry boys with us – they eat just as much as hubby..actually some days I think they eat more!!
Looking forward to hearing about your journey with your caravan!

I think you’re answer for why you live in a Motorhome is perfect. I’m quite surprised at how much stuff you can fit in your camper, but it still looks very organized, and I your fridge is way bigger than I imagined it being too. Good thing you all love the outdoors though, because I can imagine it gets a little crowded in there.

Very informative read indeed, life on the road is as rewarding for children as is for the parents. We that is Bec and I have been traveling with the four kids for a while now with a fifth one due in July,we travel in a 40 foot bus and no space is a premium that can be achieved.
