Meroo National Park Free Camping

On Friday night we drove from Wollongong down to Lake Tabourie – stopping along the way to grab dinner from Ulladulla Pizza – If you are ever down that way and you want a yummy pizza then try “Tony’s Pizza”….very yummy even if there Margarita Pizza was a bit too pricey! But then again they had so many toppings on Kyle “Meat Lovers” Pizza that it made up for it!

We arrived so late to Meroo National Park Free Camping spot so we couldn’t find anywhere to set up at the “Termeil Camping Spot” – we ended up parking the Campervan in “Sunburnt Camping Area” which is walking in camping only….and I so was NOT setting up tents in the dark and then sleeping in the car without being near our boys.

Cameron and Kyle came up with the idea of sleeping in the front of the Campervan while David and I slept in the back…we tried to swap but they wouldn’t let us πŸ™‚

First Night Set Up ::

Free Camping Trip

FIRST NIGHT SETTING UP ~ WITH EVERYTHING IN THE CAMPERVAN

Yes we all had to sleep in this very small camper van with ALL of our stuff for the first night. The beauty of our younger boys is how easy going they are with whatever situation we are in, and how they happily accepted that they had to sleep where ever that night. Guess you could say they are used to our way of travelling now πŸ™‚

A group of Swags

A GROUP OF GUYS WERE SET UP FOR THE WEEKEND WITH SWAGS

There was a group of young guys who all slept in swags, woke up and grabbed their boards for a surf – what a great weekend trip for them!

Cooked Breakfast

DAVID MADE US ALL A YUMMY GOOD BREAKFAST

Cooked Breakfast

BAKED BEANS, SAUSAGES, TOMATOES

Normally I don’t eat Red Meat…..but I am trying to see what happens when I do. I have stopped all grains and all sugars ~ Which is harder to do then I thought because there are so many hidden ingredients in food! And I have noticed a Huge Difference when I stay away from Grains!

Sunburnt Beach Camping Area

YEP WALK IN CAMPING ONLY AREA

Toilet Block

THE WORST TOILET IN THE WORLD

We have used many Drop Toilets on our Travels….but this would have to be the WORST drop Toilet in the world!!! Not Joking ~ someone must have emptied their chemical toilet down into it cause its meant to be a “Composting Toilet” but the smells from that one room made all of us Heave….even David couldn’t stand the smell and he normally can put up with anything!

Termeil Point Camping Area

LUCKILY THE TOILETS AT TERMEIL POINT WERE NICER!

The beach

THE BEACH VIEW

We basically had the whole beach to ourselves!! And the lake as well – there was a few fisherman but not that many! On the Saturday David and I layed down on the Beach while Cameron and Kyle played with their boogie boards in the water. Some thing we have not done in ages, and yes we enjoyed “Some Us Time” – even getting burnt!!!

Lake Tabourie Beach

HE WAS SUPER EXCITED TO EXPLORE THE BEACH

Our campervan

OUR CAMPERVAN SET UP!!

While Cameron and I was off exploring the Beach, David and Kyle was busy setting up our Camp Site at Termeil Point Camping Area ~ they did such a great job setting everything up so that we could rest and relax the rest of the time there!

We did get rained on late Saturday night but we dried out enough to pack up Sunday before heading back to our Motorhome.

David used to camp in this area when he was younger, many weekends he would escape the crazy Sydney area and set up camp for the weekend at Lake Tabourie.

Now days the camping area is different – lot less camping spaces compared to when he was there…..and lot less places you can drive your car to! Which is such a shame cause the National Park is huge but the camping area is limited!

I guess the powers that be have to think about the environment {regeneration needs to be considered} and also the local Caravan Park had a say in what was allowed to happen with the free camping section.

Tip ::

Arrive early to get a Camping Spot at Termeil Point Camping Area.

Or take tents big enough for your family to stay in the Sunburnt Beach Camping area.

Take in LOTS of water – there is no water there.

Take in your own Toilet Paper – The composting drop toilet does not have any toilet paper.

Set up early and then relax for the rest of the time!

Spend as long there as possible! We can’t wait to go back for at least two weeks so that we can do lots of R&R while our boys play in the water

Don’t go there at Xmas time, its so busy!!

What flexible children you have Lisa! Still by the look of that breakfast there are some great things even I’d like about camping:) Drop toilets terrify me. I always think something is going to crawl up it while I’m perched on it!

We are so very lucky with our two younger sons! They are very adaptable, mind you I was glad we didn’t have our 15 year old son…..he wouldn’t have put up with not finding somewhere to sleep!!!

I am used to Drop Toilets but the smell of that one was something that would knock the socks off anyone!!!

The beach looks so pristine and deserted. How lovely that you and David had some beach alone time. I guess some people don’t understand that you can’t tip chemical toilets into a composting one. How awful, I hope they can fix it.

It was so very good to rest and relax on the beach…..we so need more of those moments where we can de-stress.

Yeah I am not sure how one can fix a composting toilet when chemicals have been added to it – the smell….of course the smell is something I will never ever forget πŸ™‚

I will take my tomatoes raw, not grilled…and sign me up for seconds and the sausages and beans. Yes, I will sleep alone in my own tent (ha, ha). Hey Lisa, that picture Cameron is backwards…the steering wheel is on the wrong side *wink* Hugs to you πŸ™‚

Cool, taking on board the way you like your tomatoes πŸ™‚

Will have plenty for seconds, no worries!! And the steering wheel would be very scary on the other side here in Australia!

      Hi Marion,

Our campervan is not a 4wd van, but we did find the road in a bit crazy, especially when we arrived late at night. We took it slowly and we were fine, our big Bedford Comair Motorhome wouldn’t be able to handle the road.
The camping ground is spectacular, and very worth the drive in. What type of car do you have?

      cheers

We’ve got a 4wd freelander but our friends have a 2wd hatch so wondering if they can make it. We’re also considering Meroo Point campground but would prefer camping next to the car and not sure you can do that at Meroo Head.

Yeah its a very hilly track, but we did see normal cars coming and going with no issues – just take it slowly!!!

We did camp next to our car the second night – in the section where cars and campers are allowed. The first night we arrived too late and had to stay in the section where you could only park and walk in to the camp ground. The first night we all slept in our camper van cause I didn’t want to set up the tent with our boys too far away from us.

Its the best free Camping grounds in the area πŸ™‚
