After having a very deep massage today (from a guy whose business lives up to his name :: “2 Deadly Hands”) I was so happy that I knew it was a Monday and that our regular blog post could be put together!
But then I lost my list of who was next, and had to search in the cupboards for my notebook. Luckily I found it, and so very happy to be sharing Monday Featured Travel Blogger :: Newschool Nomads.
Over the moon excited to be sharing more about Jenn (plus family) From Newschool Nomads and her travelling adventures……
Q:-What year did you and your family start travelling, and can you share what you travel in (what made you chose your method of travelling) ?
My family and I started traveling in October 2011. After much discussion and writing a pro and con list we chose a 5th wheel and a diesel truck. My husband works on the road as a web designer and video editor so it gave us the space we needed to build an “office” in our bedroom. We also like the idea of two separate bedrooms rooms at opposite ends of the trailer. 😉
(Oh I love the idea of two separate Bedrooms at opposite ends! Maybe next time David could build one like that!)
The crew from left to right. Brent, Nigel, Thing Two, Jenn, Meow Cow, Thing 2, Nico ~
Love the smiles and the animals!
Q:- Do you homeschool while travelling, or do you place your two boys into school?
We homeschool our two boys. I started homeschooling them two years before we left and I’m glad. I have a feeling our trip would have lasted all of two weeks had I started homeschooling the week we moved into the RV.
(thats a great idea – getting into the swing of homeschooling before travelling!)
Thing Two with “Bullet” the baby goat ~
Oh gosh…dont let our youngest son see this photo! He would be asking us to buy a pet goat to travel Australia With 🙂
Q:- Is there one place that you have visited that almost made you want to stop travelling, because you enjoyed it so much?
Hmmmm…that’s a good question. Any place with goats. Earlier, this week I nearly cried when we left a campground that was full of baby goats. This wasn’t the first time.
In January, I had a really hard time leaving a farm we were visiting in Knoxville, TN. I’ll admit we are always on the lookout for a “perfect place” that we may want to call home. However, our hometown of Ventura, CA is nearly that place. It’s an incredible laid back beautiful beach town in Southern CA south of Santa Barbara. We haven’t found someplace we love more than Ventura. The only problem with Ventura is that we are never going to be able to afford a property where we can own goats. Sigh. Soo I’ll keep dreaming seaside village where I can shepherd my herd (flock?) of goats
(Now that would be so different :: owning goats! I so could see my younger son Kyle living on a farm with many animals, including goats!)
Reading about George Washington before visiting his birthplace. I just noticed I’m sitting in a flag chair. This wasn’t intentional. Promise. I’m not that dorky. I got them on clearance at the end of the season.
Q:- How do you plan your travels….or do you move from place to place when the time is right?
For the most part we move from place to place as the time is right. Although right now since summer is coming and we are heading to crowded New England, I went ahead made reservations. It was very painful to have to plan more than two weeks in advance.
(I too like to move from place to place, yet sometimes I would love to know where we are going to next!)
Q:- What do you think is important for all of you to be happy in your RV?
Respect, attitude, communication, and compromise. We have regular family meetings to discuss our feelings and attitudes that need to be adjusted. If there is a bad attitude we try to figure out why and go from there. It also helps to remind my family when I have PMS.
(Oh yeah, I think I am going to have a talk to my family! I suffer badly from PMS and my boys havent any clue how to handle it)
Q:- How do you and your Hubby make time for each other?
We lock the kids in the crate with the dogs? Kidding. My husband and I don’t get much alone time. We’ve been raising our kids for over 12 years without family nearby so we are pretty used to it. Our alone time consists of evening walks. A few times we have met up with friends and family who have offered to watch the boys while we went out. I didn’t know grocery shopping could be so exciting!
Brent and I had a day to ourselves on Sanibel Island while my parents watched the boys
(thats so funny. A Little while ago David and I had a day to ourselves. Where do we end up? At ToysRUs buying birthday gifts!!)
About The Author ::
My name is Jenn. My family and I are currently traveling through the United States in an RV with our two dogs, a cat, and a turtle. My husband is a freelancer and a few years ago we noticed we were taking longer “vacations”.
In other words, he would pack up his computer and we would go visit family for an extended time. One day, we thought we should just take our life on the road. We love to travel and thought it would be an amazing educational opportunity for our kids.
It didn’t happen over night but it wasn’t long until we were Newschool Nomads using technology to make a living as we wander in search of adventure. Our blog Newschool Nomads chronicles these adventures. We would love to connect with you via our Facebook Page or on Twitter
Thanking you so very much Jenn for sharing your incredible adventures on the road with your family, living and travelling in your RV.
