Whether you’re living permanently in a caravan or doing a driving trip around the country in an RV, the fact is that you have less room to work with than in a house (or even an apartment). This means you need to be smart about which appliances you purchase for your home on wheels, as well as how you organise them in your living space. With that said, there are some items that are simply essentials for the mobile lifestyle – listed below are a few such appliances.
A Portable Grill
The absence of a fully equipped kitchen doesn’t have to come at the cost of missing out on delicious, home-cooked meals. A portable grill/BBQ will give you the ability to create some scrumptious food while also being easy enough to store away when not in use. If you’re still not convinced, take a look at the portable grills available on the market at a website like www.barbequesgalore.com.au
A Miniature Fridge
A minibar-sized refrigerator is a non-optional appliance for your home on wheels. It’s important to find a balance between a fridge that’s large enough to store all your cold groceries without taking up a disproportionate amount of space. If you find the balance too hard to strike, lean towards going smaller; you can always compensate with a small cooler to host any excess items.
Air-conditioning
The luxury of air conditioning isn’t exclusive to buildings; most caravans and mobile homes are able to have some form of cooling installed. If this is inconvenient or not practical, there are also a wide range of portable air con units available that are well suited to keeping temperatures (and space management) under control in cramped areas.
TV
Okay, this isn’t an essential for everyone… but, for a lot of us, a life without a television isn’t pleasant to think about. Keeping up with current affairs and entertainment is perfectly possible for people living in a mobile home though. A reasonably-sized television, combined with a wall or roof corner fixture, can fit comfortably in your home on wheels without taking up any floor space at all!
A Washing Machine and Mini Clothes Line
You don’t want to rely on finding an open and affordable laundromat in every town you stop at. Take care of this concern by getting a portable clothes washer for your caravan or RV. It requires a little bit of space, but the amount of money and stress you’ll save makes it well worth it. When you’re living in a home on wheels, you quickly get familiar with the great outdoors, so using a mini clothes line to dry out the laundry won’t present any problems to you either.
Living in a mobile home can be a rewarding and fun way to live. Thankfully, with technological advancements and innovation, the problem of having too little space to be comfortable in such a home is now an issue of the past.
{When David rebuilt our main bed in the back of our Motorhome it raised it high enough to fit a Washing Machine in the Boot. We call it our must have item because travelling with three or more boys means lots of washing!!!}

So cool, a washing machine on the road.
I think a BBQ is a great appliance for any home,mobile or not. It means the men get to help and they actually seem to like it. What’s not to love?
I reckon the aircon is a good one too, especially for the Aussie Summer.

Well, it’s not an appliance per se. But, I want my OWN bathroom!! I’m super OCD about that, Lisa 🙂
