Last Saturday we went into Vet Cross in Bundaberg to look at the sweet dogs from Red Collar Rescue Biggenden. ONLY to look mind you. Well one thing led to another and now we have a New Baby Sister.
Yeah I am the worlds biggest sucker ever. Okay yeah I think she is super cute and perfect for our family.
As soon as we arrived I was drawn to a sweet little girl called “Piper” and Kyle was like “Please Mum” – yeah totally not the dog we had in mind. We have always wanted another Jack Russell to replace “Jessy” that we used to have visit us {she was a neighbours dog}Well we ended up sitting there, and Piper Jumped into Kyle’s lap and both David and I looked at each other and just knew that she was the one.
You know when you feel like it was meant to be, well that is what we knew when we all looked at each other. But there was one condition with Red Collar, the sweet little girl had to have a fenced area that she could walk out of the bus into. So David has been up really late at night every day this week making a fenced area for her to walk around in. We are now looking at the height of the fences, and how well she and can jump and wondering what we will do if she works out how to jump those fences!
Our Oldest Son ::
Our older son Hayden had a dog when he was 17 months of age – David went and got him while I was in the hospital with our son Zachery. I had asked for a very small tiny dog – yeah men! He came back with a mixed breed – he was German Sherpard, Labardor, Husky and one more breed {we can’t remember, just remember he was mixed four ways} AND he was huge. None of us could ever walk him – we tried but he would rip our arms out and he was never ever safe to have with other dogs cause he wouldn’t listen to any of us with commands.
So this time we are going to Puppy School, and we are walking our New Baby Sister on a harness – can’t remember if they had harnesses back 20 years ago? If so it might have helped with our first dog!
New Baby Sister ::
This sweet little “Piper” is a Kelpie X. She and her sweet sister {who was also adopted by another family} was dumped in a box in a dead end street and luckily someone found her. We thought about it and came to the name “Black Beauty” which was too much of a mouthful so we shortened it to “Beauty”.
We drove out to Red Collar Rescue yesterday and picked her up. We had purchased a Safety Harness for the Car, placed her into the car next to Cameron with Kyle on the other Side. But she was so sooky and ended up sleeping on Cameron’s lap so when we stopped at Apple Tree Creek Rest area we swapped Cameron over to the other side and placed “Beauty” into the middle. That way she could see both boys, and ended up sleeping between them all the way home.
We walked her yesterday, and then she slept well in the afternoon. In the night time we had to take her out four times for toilet breaks so now we are all exhausted – I have forgotten how much work babies can be! Tonight we hope none of us wake up – yeah she only had to go out with us because we all had woken up at different times of the night and she was keen to go outside with us!
Beauty Will Be Loved ::
I think she is going to be one very spoilt little girl – and I am very happy to say that I will be the one to spoil her the most. None of that processed dog food for her, I have made her mince meat with vegetables and rice so that she can have healthy food – going to add Garlic to the ingredients next time I make her food because I have looked up Natural remedies for Ticks/Fleas and found some amazing recipes.
She also loves Yoghurt – Kyle shared it with her today! And I also found recipes to make Dog Biscuits, Yoghurt ice-blocks, and Chicken Jerky so yes she is going to fit into our family well 🙂
Sweet Beauty Fences ::
We made sure the fences were not attached to the Motorhome so that when its reversed the fences won’t fall down, but secure enough that she can’t get down the side of the fence and the motorhome and wonder off. Fingers crossed she doesn’t jump them yet! Mind you she is only allowed outside when one of our boys are with her!
We Picked Her Up Yesterday ::
She is so very cuddly – loves to be around all of us all the time!
Yeah she didn’t want to sit on the Car Seat by herself, and was soon laying across Cameron, with her head on Kyle!
And yeah again she was fast asleep stretched out, touching both boys before we even got five minutes down the road!
She didn’t sleep that well – ever time someone woke up she would too. I took her out four times for a toilet break, and Cameron took her out once. Which is great because we didn’t wake up to any mess this morning, but now we are all exhausted from being awake with the sweet baby! Hope tonight that she sleeps a bit more, or if she does wake up that she doesn’t wake everyone up!
She Is A Beauty And A Mans Best Friend ::
And she is a lot of work! Kyle and Cameron have now experienced a Baby, and how much work they are! She needs walking {lots}, and she bites them and is barking at the cows so they have learnt how to look after a puppy dog. They are really exhausted.
Kyle was like “How did I ever Live My Entire Life without A Puppy” 😉
And another one “I finally got a Baby Sister” – he so would have been an amazing Bigger Brother!
Today We Took Her For A Big Walk ::
Oh my gosh – how funny is this! They both look so alike 🙂
You know that saying “Owners look like their Dogs, and Dogs look like their owners” – yep!
I reckon that Kyle is going to sleep so well tonight! He has run after her needs all day today, and he kept on saying “Gee I don’t know how you and Dad did five babies” – he has been a trooper with walking her, and picking up after her poos, feeding her, looking after her in the motorhome. I sure hope she sleeps better tonight so we all can catch up on some much needed sleep.
Do You Have A Kelpie X Puppy/Dog?
How sweet is Beauty! Lets see if tomorrow she doesn’t bite as much, bark as much, and sleeps a bit more. She sure is going to need puppy training.
Cheers
Lisa
