I wasnt going to write about it, nor have I officially announced it anywhere! I normally get excited when I see our story being shared on other blogs, websites, newspapers, radio stations and anywhere online. But this time my mouth was shut closed and I was so very scared.
Thats Life Magazine Featured New Life on the Road
Yeah it doesn’t make sense but I was scared about you buying the magazine, reading my story and then coming here to leave your thoughts about what I had done with buying a motorhome. I was also scared for my family. You see my family (my side of my family) are very private people and they don’t like to be talked about.
Actually we all are very private people. If you were to meet me for the first time your first impression would be that I am stuck up. And I am not. Its more than that. Its I am shy and reserved. I like to get to know you and have friends, but I don’t go out of my way to make them. Not sure why but I have always been like that!!
Yet if you are my friend then you will always be my best friend. I am loyal, and I stand up for what I believe in. That is why (with the help of my family and my wonderful brothers) I am very proud to announce that New Life on the Road was featured in Thats Life Magazine on Wednesday 27th June on Page 16.
Why Do I Now Shout It Out Loud?
Because last night it was made clear to me that I have nothing to be scared about. My family has my back and I am able to be stronger for that! My friends (the ones who really know me!) also have my back π
And I am also proud of the way Katie Brown shared our story!
Which got me to thinking about what I did with the money that we were given for the article. It was not even something that I thought twice about – as soon as I heard that we were being paid $600.00 for the article I know in my heart where that money was going to. (Sorry Nicholas, I know you thought we would be spending the money on you and your brothers but this is something that our family needs to do!!!)
Malnourished Children like Amadou are identified and quickly helped ~
World Vision has put into place to find out who are malnourished.

So many need help!
World Vision – my number all time favorite charity. And $600.00 is going to provide so much to someone that needs it but where do I give the money to? Where would you give the money?
This is where I need you to help……
Do We (You And New Life on the Road) make a one time donation?
Or Do We Buy Gifts?
{ UPDATE – We purchased Gifts with the Money, You Can see where we did good here}
We can almost buy the following for $600.00:-
One Cow for $265.00
One Donkey for $225.00
Food for Life $125.00
Total $615.00 (we are happy to add extra for this to happen)
Or Do We Give The Money To World Vision and They Decide?
Or Should We Sponsor A Child With The Money? We need to hear your thoughts……
Do You Want To Add To the Donation?
Cheers

New Life on the Road
Well Lisa, First of all congratulations on New Life on the Road’s story being published in That’s Life. I can’t wait to read it. What a marvelous idea to donate the money to World Vision. I like the idea of buying a cow and a donkey – that would make a big difference to a family’s life to receive such gifts.
Thanking you Jan – I love your feedback for what we should do with the donation to world vision π
Will let you know once the donation goes through!
Cheers

Congratulations π I also agree, the difference a cow or donkey would make is a lovely thought
Thanking you for the vote Bronwyn π
Wow, Its not a magazine I normally buy, but I will definitely buy it this week. Can I ask what food for life for $125 is? If you could give 5 children food for life, that would definatly make a difference to them. and Is there any programs for education? The children are so desperate to learn and are not given the opportunity. So many ways you can help them, I know you will choose the right one. Congratulations Lisa, you have nothing to fear from your friends.
Thanking you Jackie for your friendship and amazing support xxx
I have asked World Vision to let me know what “Food For Life” means – waiting to hear from them π
Let me know what you think of the article!
Hi Jackie,
I found out that “food for life” means “Food for life provides sustainable food sources for a village. This includes things like seeds to grow fruit and vegetables, as well as things like a fish farm” which sounds so good! With regards to Education – here is the link to the Gift Page:- World Vision Gifts – they have so many different ways to support through animals, train a teacher, fresh water, food, packages, and more!
Cheers
Lisa
Ooh that’s so cool! Congrats! I like all three options for different reasons but the food for life sounds pretty amazing! How does it work?
Any chance you can post the article here too? I won’t be able to buy the mag in Panama I suspect!
Well done Lisa! You rock!
Thanking you Serena, it was kinda of weird seeing our photos and story in a magazine!!
I dont think I can have the article on line, but could send you the magazine if you like?
I am not sure how the Food for life works – I have asked world vision to let me know as we are wondering as well π
Cheers
Lisa
Hi Sereana,
Found out from World Vision on how “Food For Life” works its “Food for life provides sustainable food sources for a village. This includes things like seeds to grow fruit and vegetables, as well as things like a fish farm”
Which sounds like a brilliant idea π
Cheers
Lisa
Ahhh that makes sense! What a cool program!
As for mag articles, I scan them and PDF them, that way people can read them on my site π
Oh – I have never thought of doing that! will have to give it a go tomorrow and see if it works π
Hi Lisa,
Congrats! Where can I lay my hands on a copy of the mag?! I think sponsoring a child is the best option if you can commit for a few years:)

Hi Lisa, I just happened to be doing a Google search for images on World Vision and Africa, wanting to make sure that the images we use promote the dignity of Africans and children. I happened to come across two photos that I took last year on a trip to see our drought relief work in Senegal – the one of the child having his upper arm measured and the one of the cattle that are on your blog. I just wanted to say thank you so much for donating to World Vision. I am based in the UK and work for World Vision International not Australia. Generous gifts from people like you do make a difference.
Oh wow James, Love that Google can connect people world wide – love that you took the photos and that I am able to share them here.
Thanking you so much for letting us know, and for your kind words xxx
