Today I sit in the heat, and I reflect back on our lifestyle choices. They are choices that we wanted for so long, and choices that we have made by either taking control of our situation and making sure our life is different….or sometimes they are choices that have happened because of our thoughts. I wished we had thought about some of life choices in depth a bit more, and I wished that One Day Soon we get to be where we want to be…livng somewhere closer to my older son!
Our Older son at Army Cadets 2010
One Day Soon
Yesterday afternoon I received news, via a phone call, that my older son was not well. I was not expecting to hear the news because last weekend when we had spoken on the phone he sounded good – really good. He was happy with his life choices, and he was doing really well with all of the training that he was being put through. He was really really really tired, but still I could hear in his voice that he was loving his new career. His arms are very sore – I bet when he gets home for Christmas that he will so look different to how he looked when he left home. I bet that he will be a different person.
All I Wish For This Christmas
Hope One Day Comes Real Soon 🙂
When my older son left to head to Melbourne, all I wanted for him was to be safe. I prayed that the navy would keep him safe, and that he returns to us for Christmas in one piece. Now all I want is for him to get well really quickly and return home in time for Christmas. He is going to have four weeks off over xmas, and I cant wait to give him the biggest hug.
When I got the phone call from my in-laws (they are taking all of the calls because they have a land line number, while we only have a mobile number!) late yesterday afternoon, my heart hit the ground. I knew that it had to be something important for the phone call to come through. Normally we speak at night-time, when the calls are cheaper.
All I want for xmas is my older son home!
As soon as she said that our oldest son was in the Hospital, I so wanted to get on the next plane to Melbourne. Yet I calmly took down the number of where I could reach him. It felt like a lifetime before someone answered the phone.
Within minutes I had the information of what happened. He was doing a swimming exercise and became unwell. They took him to the hospital as a precaution. He was having trouble with breathing, and was coughing up blood. They took a chest x-ray and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. Yet he sounded good on the phone.
One Day Soon
I spoke with him yesterday afternoon, and he was on oxygen plus antibiotics to help with his coughing.
Then I rang again later on last night. He said that he had his dinner and felt a bit better.
This morning I rang and got to speak with him again. He wants out of there already so that he can get back into training. Yet they were still monitoring him because of his breathing…..they have to be over-cautious (after all they are responsible for his well-being!!!) and he is in good hands. But I still want to get on a plane, and take him into my arms for the biggest hug.
Also we want to give him a honey/lemon drink and huge spicy meal. We don’t actually go to the doctors with our boys…we use Natural Remedies to help get our boys well when they need it. We use food, natural remedies, and alternative medicines when our boys are under the weather.
I know that one day soon he will be back with us, and that he will be ok….but gee cant I be there!!!
Helping From Afar
David went to the health food store on his way home from work – I rang him (I was trying to be calm!) and told him what happened. He went straight to the health food store, and spoke to the naturopath about what we could send down to him. After David explained all that was happening, and how the doctors were treating our oldest son, he walked out with tablets to help boost his immune system. The tablets were made with a chinese herb, and were sealed. It also has the ingredients on the bottle, so my fingers are crossed that the bottle will be approved and he will be able to have his parcel.
Not sure – but we think all of his post will be checked by the Navy? Which is weird because they are not tablets that are dangerous, they are all natural. Funny how we have to think about what we can send our own son!!
If only we could introduce our Natural way of living into the defence force!! David and I were talking about it late last night. It would be so good if we could fly down to our son, and use our Natural Remedies to help get him better, and show the defence force how food can help the body to heal. That would be our dream come true….sharing our love of our natural lifestyle with others so that they could benefit from it. Maybe One Day the natural way of living will be more acceptable?
One Day Soon Cant Come Soon Enough!
Cheers
Lisa

Starting November 1, BootsnAll is launching a project called 30 Days of Indie Travel. They are inviting bloggers from around the world (including you!) to join us in a daily blogging effort reflecting on our past travel experiences. Each day, they will post a new prompt on BootsnAll articles. Bloggers can follow the prompts as strictly or loosely as they like, interpreting them in various ways and responding via text, photos or video posted on their own blogs – Courtesy of 30 days of Indie Travel.
It must be so hard for you to be away from your son when he is sick. I hope he gets well quickly so he can get back into doing what he loves.

Hi Jackie,
I guess being away from him is the hard part!!! He kept on telling me he was fine (over the phone) but I still wished I could have been there to make sure 🙂
He is really keen to get back into training, and I am so proud of him – he sure knows what he wants in life!
Cheers

Yes wouldn’t it be wonderful if the defence force would adopt the natural remedies where possible. I also think that families should be given free flights to be by the side of the soldiers, who are giving so much to our country.
also to afford telephone calls, you could try an app called Viber. If both you and your son download it, you can call each other for free. Please note I am not affiliated in any way to this app.
Hope your son gets well soon
Hi Ivy,
Wow – how good would that be!! Having the defence force take on board natural remedies to assist their members!! Would love to be a part of that for sure 🙂
Thanks for your kind words – he is going to be fine…he is a really little fighter! Nthing keeps him down for long.
Cheers

It’s awesome to see in writing the connection between mother and son. I’m sure your eldest will get better soon, just in time for Christmas!
Thanks – Sean. We are so glad that he is going to come home for Xmas!! He is already up and about … nothing keeps him down for long (which we are so grateful for!!)

Sorry to hear that your son is not well Lisa – especially as he’s so far away. Teenage boys are a resilient lot – I’m sure he’ll be back on his feet again soon. x
