Yesterday I walked the Cane2Coral Walk and Run Event that was held in Bundaberg. It was a 15k Run or 8k Walk/Run. Jackie from Cake Decorating Books and Supplies asked if I wanted to enter the event. I have never walked in a Fun Event before, but was keen to give it a go 🙂
The Finish Line At The Start?
We had to be at the Cane2Coral event so early…..did I ever mention how I am not a morning person? Well I normally do not get out of bed till after 7.30am….I stay up late most nights and get up late the next morning. Its not a good habit to be in but I have always been like that! Actually I am more creative at night then I am in the morning.
The event didn’t start until 9.30 am for the 8k walk, yet the roads were all closed after 8.00am so we had to get to the start before we couldn’t get through. Waiting from 8.00 till 9.30 am was easy – there were many wonderful people to entertain us, from a guy in pink with the most craziest hair to the Zumba Dancers that performed Live! It was an amazing to see the spirit of Bundaberg in amongst the crowd, and the feeling of the crowd (as if they were all family).
Within a short time the race was starting! The runners started off first at a different location for the 15k Event. Then when they passed the 8k, the Fittest were asked to head to the front for the 8k walk. Before we knew it we started the event, and I was so looking forward to crossing Over The Finish Line. I kept thinking that I wished we were there already!
Got Passed 2k Mark
After the 1k Mark, it was so much easier. The 2k Mark soon approached, and then the 3k, and then the 4k mark. I was super excited when I saw the 5k mark on the side of the road – we were more then half way to getting Over The Finish Line. Gee I should have done some training before hand – at least walked a few days in a row!! I have muscles hurting that I did not even realise that I had! Today I am walking slower than a snail, and I have a blister that I did not even realise I had until I took my socks off after the event!
Would I Enter Again?
You bet I would. It was so much fun, it was hard going, but hey we both finished our 8k walk in 1hour 25 minutes, and I came in at 163 out of 263 for my age group (and no I am not telling you what my age is!!) so all in all I walked Over The Finish Line at 1.25.04 which I am proud of!!

Great effort Lisa. I am so glad that you had some fun and also found some muscles that you forgot that you had. Fun runs are usually entertaining but so many people get put off because they think they have to run them 🙂
Hi Dee,
One day I would love to run it! I am so sore today, but it was so worth it 🙂 I love the idea of pushing my limits, and getting out there 🙂
Cheers
