It was Police Open Day in Oakflats – actually we didn’t realise that it was Open Day until we were driving past the Police Stati on, on our way to drop Nicholas off to the Yacht Club for the day
Oh I did hear it about on the Radio Station 96.5 Wave FM but I had kinda forgotten about it. Luckily we decided to stop in for a short bit before we went Bush Walking.
With the count down on until we leave the Wollongong area, we are trying to fit as much as possible in to every weekend. Mind you we have been to lots of places in the Wollongong and surrounding areas while we have been here.
Police Open Day Oakflats ::
Kyle’s Nickname is “Monkey” cause he is like one! He climbs up tall trees and eats lots of bananas and with his red hair he has been nicknamed “Orangutan” since he was little. So it was fitting that he was able to have a picture with a real big Monkey.
Cameron LOVED sitting in the Police Car ~ He took lots of Pictures on his own Ipad, and I was able to share some of those of pictures on our Instagram and Facebook Page. It was so funny to watch both Cameron and Kyle enjoying the Open Day ~ With their two oldest brothers in the Navy I wonder if this will interest them?
The Riot Police Squad was set up with a Display of Photos and Equipment….both Cameron and Kyle were drawn to the Helmets, The Shields and the Vests! They soon realised how heavy the Vests were while trying to lift them up, and they were surprised with how light weight the shield was!
He really Liked all of the equipment that the Riot Squad had ~ should I be worried about this??? Gosh I jokingly say “Nope, two boys in the Navy is way too many. And our younger two are not allowed to join” {of course my boys get determined to do whatever they want so there is nothing I can say that will stop them} Maybe it will be the Police Force that will interest them?
I really loved this Blue Hand that was walking around ~ I thought he was too funny! Today the radio station 96.5 Wave FM was hosting the Open Day and they had some great displays/characters walking around!
Kyle was really into the Rescue Truck…he really like sitting up high and looking out the front window. And all of their equipment was holding his attention.
My late Grandmother always wanted me to enter the Police Forces, and to work with the Horses. I love HORSES but I don’t think that I could do general duties for three years before applying to the Mounted Police Horses.
Actually I am not so sure how I would go holding a gun! I think that I would probably end up shaking while trying to point the gun!!
We didn’t line up to see inside the station, even though both boys so badly wanted to – we wanted to keep going so that we could still do our bush walk – and the line was HUGE.
All in all the Police Open Day in Oakflats was so much fun ~ lets hope that both Cameron and Kyle do not become interested in the Police force as a career – two navy sons is enough for my grey hair!
Have You Ever Been To A Police Open Day?
I highly recommend going to one if you get a chance, lots to look at and great to ask questions with each specialised forces.
Cheers

New Life on the Road.
It’s great that the police do open days like this – it really builds bridges between kids and the force. Sounds like yours had fun!
It was such a great day, and yes such a great way to bring the police and the community together 🙂
The Open Day would be great for your boys. All boys love sitting in trucks and on bikes don’t they. Personally I loved the mounted police women. Is Nicholas into sailing?
