We went for a walk a few weekends ago to a spot not far from our Motorhome, “Bass Point Reserve” – it holds a special place in our heart because of our navy sons and the navy ship that has a memorial set up there on the headland.
On the way home we stopped and I got out to pay our respects to a young girl who was taken far too soon. She was driving in Shellharbour when she lost control of her car and later died in hospital.
You see I don’t know her personally but I do know that she went to the same high school as my third son.
I don’t know her by name, but I do know that she was a daughter, very loved member of the high school and very much loved by her friends. She was a member of a family.
And I don’t know what exactly happened but by what I can see and what I have heard its enough to say this “Speed Kills Please Slow Down“. I have heard that the accident was due to street racing, not sure who or how or any of the details.
I say it from a Mum’s heart…because I have two sons who are legally allowed to drive. Only one has his license and has his own car …and as a Mum I always worry and say “Drive Safely” whenever I know he is on the road.

Please – if you are a teenager/young person and you are getting in a car to drive – remember you are really important to your family. You need to drive slowly, or to the speed limit and you need to arrive to your destination. PLEASE slow down, take the road seriously.
I so wished this beautiful young lady was still here for her future, for her amazing friends, for her family, for all of her dreams to come true.
I so wished that spilt second decision that took her from this world too soon could be changed. But it cant -so I hope that this post will keep another beautiful person safe.
I hope that this will touch you in a way so that you will be mindful when you get behind a wheel.
I hope that my boys will be mindful when they are driving their own car, or when they are in a car where their friends are driving.
I hope that one day soon there will be cars that CAN not have accidents – someone needs to make a car that keeps all of our kids alive. A car that is not able to smash into trees out of control – or into other cars. A car that has the ability to judge its distances and correct itself by stopping or slowing down.
Remember Speed Kills Please Slow Down.
May she be sleeping soundly, horse riding for evermore {she loved horses} and looking after her family from above. May the family be able to heal and know that their daughter is within them for ever more.
May she feel how many people love her and miss her. She was so loved – there are so many beautiful messages left on the tree.
May all road angels be resting in peace for ever more.
May our roads not claim any more young lives – please.
Drive Safely where ever you are.
Lisa
New Life on the Road.
Oh my gosh this is a beautiful, tears come to my eyes, tribute to that young lady, Lisa! Thank you so much for sharing it and driving carefully & slowing down is a huge message that needs to be sent out always to our folks. I wrote a post quite a while back on my street racing days and will write a follow up to it eventually. In the first one and any subsequent ones I speak vehemently on that advocate against illegal street racing! While this does not appear to be the case here I’m saying that yes please slow down AND put the dang cell phones away. The other day I had a young lady blaze by me on the freeway doing 15 mph OVER the speed limit. She was steering with her knees and texting away. Thank you again for sharing this and god bless her family and loved ones. I too hope she is riding horses in peace above 🙂

Unfortunately the accident was due to street racing 🙁
It was so very sad, far too young to be gone. She was almost finished High School and had her life ahead…I so wished there was cars who could not crush ever.
It touched my heart because she was in the same school as our son Nicholas, and she was a much loved daughter. Wished the day ended differently.
Gosh how can someone being texting and driving with steering with her knees…when will people understand that hands and eyes need to be concentrating on the road??
I remember reading about your street racing post, would love to read your follow up post
Take care xx
It is too sad to think about Lisa, and it happens so quickly and so often. It is in the back of every parents mind all the time. How sad for the young girls family.

Such a tragic loss for the family, a young life wasted.
I think of all the stupid things I did with friends in cars as a kid and just hope nothing like this ever touches our family directly.
A friend in Australia had her niece as the driver of a car where her best friend died in the crash and the entire family and community was ripped apart.
rest in peace xxx
Oh Lisa, why do we all think we are invincible when we are younger? I sure hope we all stay safe, and our children grow old.
So very sorry for your friend, car crushes affect so many in so many different ways, sending lots of healing love xxx
