Today New Life on the Road took a day out from homeschooling (well the book work at least!). I took four of our five boys to The Bundaberg Barrel – Bundaberg Brewed Drinks.
The Bundaberg Barrel
Upon arriving at The Bundaberg Barrel I was blown away by how friendly all the staff were. They greeted us warmly, and explained how the tour of the Bundaberg Barrel worked. Then they let us explore the store before we decided to take the tour. Each of us was given a black little device that looks like a phone. It had a chain so I was reassured that the younger two boys would not drop them! Each different room has a different number, when we entered the tour we were told to press one (and then each room after had the next number!)
The Bundaberg Beer Started
Established in 1960.ย The family owned business has been making Bundaberg Beer Drinks for over 40 years. Over the last 40 odd years they have changed direction, changed who they market the drinks to, changed business name but remained as a family owned company….and always kept to the same recipe for Bundaberg Beer! In 1995 they changed their Business name to “Bundaberg Brewed Drinks” so that they could focus on expanding their range of drinks, and still offer the highest quality tasting Brewed Drinks. Today they import to about 30 different companies!
The Bundaberg Barrel Was Built
In 2005 the business decided to build “The Bundaberg Barrel” so that the locals and the tourist are able to share the experience of how the Number one Ginger Beer is made, with educational interactive displays and computersย that are all “touch screen” so that children (and adults!) are able to have fun while learning……so I guess you could say that we did do Home schooling as it was all hands on! Here is how the New Life on the Road spent their wonderful day….
Highly Recommend The Tour
If you ever visit Bundaberg or live in the area then I highly recommend you check out The Bundaberg Barrel – it was so much fun, and worth watching the boys trying out the smelly machine, the bubble machine, building a puzzle, listening to the information on their handheld black devices and watching their faces as they taste-tested the 14 different Bundaberg Brewed Drinks:)
Thanks for watching the youtube video, and for checking out where we spent the day. If you also want to know more about Bundaberg then Postcard From Bundaberg is where we spent a great day at Botanic Gardens last week!

Hello Jan,
It does look big on the outside…but amazing once you enter. With the shop, the Tour, and all the different rooms then its not so big inside. But what is the best thing is how much fun a family can have ๐ So had a great time!
Cheers
Lisa
Not all lessons are learnt in the classroom, some of the best ones are learnt through everyday life happenings. It sounds like a fun day was had by all.

Thanks Lisa,
If we are ever in Bunderburg I’ll make sure we stop and enjoy the tour at the Bundaberg Barrel. It sounds like a great way to show the children about brewing.
Thanks again

Whoa, that Bundaberg Barrel is massive. It makes me thirsty just looking at it. I’d definitely be up for a nice ginger beer while checking out the smelly machine.

Sure is great – the boys had so much fun and loved walking around ๐ We brought two boxes of ginger beer and they are already finished!!

I am pretty sure I personally helped to finanace the Bundaberg Barrel with the amount of ginger beer (diet) I drink. I have never been there but it sounds like a great place to visit when in the area.
Hello Compost King,
Thats funny with supporting the Bundaberg Barrel with the amount of ginger beer you have had to drink ๐ Sure is a great place to visit. Worth spending at least a week here.
Cheers

Ginger Beer, one of my favourite drinks. I’ve been looking for inspiration for a mid year holiday. Bundaberg is sure to be warmer than Armidale at that time of year.

Lots of great places to visit across Australia – and I am looking forward to visiting them all.

Looks like you guys are having a great time. We’ve never been to the Bundaberg Barrel, but after reading this we definetly have to visit and do the tour next time we are in Bundy!

Hello Yvonne,
So recommend doing the Bundaberg Barrel tour and the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Both are so worth it ๐ Especially if you have children – it is a great way to teach children as they learn so much when its hands on displays, educational talks and an interesting subject (much better than sitting in the classroom!!)
Cheers

I have driven past the Bundy Barrel many times while working around when I used to live up in Gladstone. Unfortuately I didn’t take the oppurtunity to go on the tour when I was in Bundy. I have, however, taken the tour at the Bundy Rum factory, which I thought was a great tour.

I would highly recommend going to both tours!! I am looking forward to going back to Bundaberg Rum Distillery with our older two boys ๐
