We love to heal naturally, using what we have around us to make us better. Its been Five Years since David and I with our boys have turned away from Doctors and Chemists. Its not that we don’t think they are important, its because we have learnt how to heal with food or through natural means (especially with Honey, Garlic, Lemons).
We have healed Nicholas sore foot with Cabbage Leaves, Salt Baths, and Honey.
When we have head colds then the Garlic comes out big time….Garlic Bread, Garlic French Toast, Garlic and Honey on a Spoon.
With a sore tooth we use Cold Packs from the Freezer, L-Lysine tablets, Coconut Mouth Pulling, Sleep and Salt rinses.
For sore ears we use Roasted Garlic Cloves – place it into the ear when its warm…instant relief. Also can be used for tooth aches!
Even have made lots of rubs for sore muscles, aches and pains. We also use Castor Oil for lots of remedies (great for tummy aches – soak it in a Face washer, make it warm and put a hot water bottle over the top!!)
So when we were asked to review The Smelly Little Oil Company I knew that all of us would appreciate and enjoy the book…..little did I know that even our youngest was going to become fascinated with the clever use of “Characters and their names”. The book is based on helping children to embrace, accept and acknowledge oils naturally for many different ways of healing many different type of issues – be it a sore tummy.
The book is written by Donna Chisholm to teach parents that Aromatherapy is beneficial for children, and for children to learn that Oils can become their best friend…
“Educating Children About Pure Essential Oils…..
Instead of teaching children to reach for a chemical pill when their head hurts, why not have them ask for some lavender and peppermint?”
Why Wait anymore….You can get your own Book here.
This book was made for fun! The characters are aimed at children’s imagination…and capture their attention because of the way they are dressed. Its also like it was made for the Woody Family ~ every single one of our boys keeps on picking it up to have a good read!
Kyle Loves BEN Black Pepper – he loves the way he is dressed.
But he especially loves how “Ben also loves to help if you have an upset tummy or if you are having trouble going to the toilet” – because Kyle proudly informed me that he is having trouble getting rid of all his number 2’s when going to the toilet!!!
(First time he has ever had the words to let me know what is going on…and the first time I have ever heard him say he is having trouble going to do poo’s) Will be using the Remedy that Ben suggests!
What I really like about the book is how the “Characters” match the oil, and with the help of the drawings its easy to work out which oils to combine to help with each issue everyone is having.
After reading about the benefits of using Yamsin (Ylang Ylang Oil) with Lozzie (Lavender) to help bad feelings go away, or if you get angry….I am keen to stock up on those two oils!!!
Then there is Sammy (Sandalwood Oil) Add Sammy and Lozzie (Lavender) together to get a good nights sleep……wondering if I can use a LOT to help my boys sleep for a very long time….like wouldn’t it be good if they slept for 12 hours!!! (Only joking – Oils need to used respectfully)
Penny (Peppermint Oil) would have to be my all time favorite ever….she works well on Smelly Feet!! Gee boys have the most smelliest feet ever, and I am sure they get that from their Dad ~ he will say its from me but don’t you listen to anything he says…us girls know which side of the family passes on down the not so good stuff!
Razzie (Rosemary Oil) is good at helping you to concentrate when you have to think about things. So I am going to start using Razzie more often, as soon as I remember where I put our Oil Burner.
All in all The Smelly Little Oil Company is a book that every member of the family will read, enjoy, use and want to keep forever close by.
If I could add one suggestion to the book it would be to include a section of where to get the Oils from….we buy our Essential Oils from a local health food store, but if there was an online store mentioned in the book then David would be in big trouble because I would be shopping right this minute.

Coconut oil it’s amazing stuff
We use Coconut Oil for so many things…great for Cold Sores, Acne, Dry Skin, Cracked Heals, Sore Dry Lips, hands and great for cooking with!
We already use Eucalyptus Oil. It’s quite amazing. Very versatile.
We use it for cleaning floors because I love the smell 🙂
Hello Lisa, I just had a quick look at your blog and will read more but…the post about oils just prompted me to write this. Your review on the Smelly Little Oil Company is making me scratch my head in disbelief! Why? The books author is Donna Chisholm. My wife, who prefers to use her maiden name is…Donnis Chisholm!!! It gets stranger. Donna Chisholm writes about healing with essential oils. My wife Donnis Chisholm also believes in healing via essential oils. Not only does she believe but she sells essential oils. Perhaps you should talk with her. Cheers Frank
Hi Frank,
That is really freaky! What is the chances of that happening?? Too funny – would love to hear more about the oils your wife Donnis Chisholm uses….does she have a website set up with her oils?
Cheers
Lisa
I would use the lavender oil.
We love the effect Lavender Oil has 🙂
Eucalyptus oil. Love the scent and it’s so versatile.
Such a great oil – especially for head colds 🙂
Sandalwood, lavender and ylang ylang to make the quiet time combo. My toddler needs help winding down at times!
I so agree – it sounds like the best combination, and our boys need it to help with going to sleep!!!
Sandalwood, teatree and Eucalyptus 3 of my favourites.
Great combination 🙂
