Yesterday I wrote about Postcard From Melbourne, sharing lots of photos and information about staying in Melbourne. While I was there I stayed at a BackPackers for the very first time. I briefly mentioned The Space Hotel Melbourne – with a bit of information and photos. Today I want to share with you more details and lots of photos!
The Space Hotel Melbourne
I have never thought to stay at a Back Packers before. Normally I stay at hotels…like Novotel, Holiday Inn and sometimes the Hilton! Have you stayed at the Hilton in Sydney? David and I did many years ago when we went to a family members wedding. Gosh was that weekend fun…we have never stayed at the Hilton before, and was amazed with the decor, the service, the location and the feeling of class from the people coming and going.
The Outside of The Space hotel Melbourne
This time I wanted to stay somewhere I have never stayed before. I think because we now live in a Motorhome, with the six of us in small spaces, that I was able to handle the small room of The Space Hotel Melbourne. It was also my first time in Melbourne so I was super excited. It’s funny how keen I am to travel, and how much I could easily become a Back Packer. If you had asked me years ago, if I could pack up and move regularly I would have laughed. Only because I really do love my home, but now I realise that my home is where ever my heart is 🙂
The Six Bunk Beds Bedroom
I slept on the top bunk bed for the very first time! I stayed in a six-room Female Dorm.
The Shared Kitchen
It wasnt till late Friday night that one of my room mates let me know that there was a Shared Kitchen on the fifth floor. I never realised as no one from the Space Hotel had let me know….there was no information handed to me when I arrived at the front counter to sign in!
The Huge Shared Fridges – Make Sure You Write Your Name On Your Bags/Containers/Products otherwise it will be soon shared with everyone 🙂
The Huge Shared Kitchen where there is big ovens/big sinks/lots of bench space/lots of pots and pans
The outdoor BBQ area – with gorgeous views of Melbourne City
Internet Connection is available for a set amount of time/price
The Front Counter at The Space Hotel – the staff are so friendly and funny 🙂
The Hi-Lights of Staying At The Space Hotel
The Space Hotel Melbourne was a great place to stay for my first back packers experience. I would happily stay there again – not sure if I could stay there with all of my family (four of our five boys) but I would be super keen to try it if and when we head to Melbourne. The Hi-Light of The Space Hotel was that I could come and go and not feel like I was going to wake anyone up….as the girls that I was in the dorm with where doing the same (coming in very late at night, and leaving very early!)
Location:- They are located at 380 Russell St in Melbourne’s CBD
How To Get Your Lost Luggage And Unclaimed Baggage Back
How To Get There From The Airport:- Take the Skybus super shuttle to Southern Cross train station. Ask at the information counter if the courtesy bus is going to your location, and the friendly staff will let you know which small bus is going to The Space Hotel.
What You Will Need:- You will need a credit card for you security deposit and either cash/credit card to pay for your stay. You will also need a padlock for your wardrobe that is located next to your bed in your dorm. Make sure you have a padlock, or purchase one at the hotel as you need to go out and about knowing that your belongings are safe.
Ask For:- A Map of Melbourne. The Friendly Staff have a “Hello Melbourne” map which you can easily carry with you…I used it to find the Novotel Hotel in Collins Street, to find China Town, Greek Precinct and to also find my way back to The Space Hotel.
Take Lots of Photos:- Melbourne city was amazing…make sure you have a good quality camera, and take photos so that you will have those wonderful memories for when you return home.
Have You Stayed in Melbourne Before? If so…share where do you prefer to Stay….
Cheers

Please note that the review of The Space Hotel Melbourne was my own opinion. No one paid for this review, and in no way was I influenced to write what I thought!
Hostels are a great way to travel, I once stayed in one in New York which had one bunk bed so I was on my own. During the night someone came in and had left by the morning. I know I spoke to them but never saw them again….

Hi Lisa,
Its so funny how people were coming and going!! It was a great way to stay in a great place, and I would highly recommend The Space Hotel Melbourne.
How long did you stay in New York for? It would have been so much fun!
Cheers

I really enjoyed the Space Hotel Melbourne!
Although, I thought my dorm room was really big actually!
Perfect for a bed to sleep in, somewhere to have a shower and get moving again. I love hostels.

Hi Lina,
Sure was a great hotel for sleeping, showering, and location 🙂 I loved my first experience with the Space Hotel Melbourne backpackers…the rooms were not that big (with six beds) but it was a great place for sleeping.
Cheers

Hi Lisa. Now this is a comprehensive review. I like it how you made enjoyed the place and also that you were open to share that this may not be the place for the whole family. No need though when you have so much room on the bus! Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.
