While I was down in Sydney {for my Diploma of Remedial Massage} I kept harassing my oldest son to take us down to The Swallowed Anchor for either Lunch or Dinner time, just so I could cross it off our bucket list! And also to support another cafe down in Wollongong.
And I am so glad I kept at him until he took us, he didn’t tell us we were going, it was a surprise! Considering it was my birthday while I was down there, and his Birthday, we could call it a late combined birthday celebration, but really it was just a great place to relax and to eat at!
The Swallowed Anchor ::
Along the way I asked him to Stop at the look out – the Bulli Lookout – its amazing, you can see all over Wollongong and beyond. Favorite spot to stop at.
I had my favorite – Sweet Potatoes with Seafood! And Cameron had his favorite –
Mind you our oldest also had the Nachos before the three mini burgers! Gee my boys sure know how to pack away the food, but then work it all off 🙂
On the Saturday nights {i think?} they have a live band so its get busy/booked really fast…best to ring early and book!
I remember a few years ago there was a Ice-Skating rink and a Huge Xmas tree placed right in the front of The Swallowed Anchor – where Kyle won money for a groovy Xmas Hat in front of the big tree! So it was so weird to be back and visiting and experiencing a yummy meal with our oldest, but it was also really good.
I love the story behind how the owners of The Swallowed Anchor – they were both in the Navy, and they put into a place a 3 year plan to make their dream come true – which to me makes sense – you got to have a plan when you are ready to leave the Navy and enter to the real world, cause there are no rules/structure like the military out here in the real world!
Make sure you stop in to The Swallowed Anchor if you are ever in Wollongong, the decor and the food makes it the best cafe to chill out and eat at. They even catered for our Gluten Free Needs which is so very hard when out and about and eating healthy! I loved how fresh everything tasted.
And say Hi to Annah and Ryan from New Life on the Road!
