I have been following Tara from Freedom Family for some time. Even have looked at one of her products for a review a while back….yet I wanted to know a bit more about her and who she is. So I thought I would ask if she would be a guest blogger for New Life on the Road.
Tara kindly agreed! And I am excited to share more about their journey to living a Free Life :: Travel Is A Journey And Not A Destination…..
Travel Is A Journey And Not A Destination ::
We loooove the movie ‘Into the Wild’ – if you haven’t seen it yet and you’re reading this blog post I just know that you’ll love it and if your anything like us you’ll totally understands the ‘whys’ of the movie that is based on a true story.
Our journey of travel begun back in november 2011, we knew it was coming as we were wanting to live a life of freedom in travel for at least 12months… but we just didn’t know the “how’s” of how our dream will unfold.
Behind The Scenes Of Dreaming
We had no money… we were only really were living from week to week… was this our dream to just getting by? “No” our dream was to live in a life of financial freedom from the current online marketing business that I was eager to MAKE work for us to support our dream lifestyle.
Money wasn’t coming… but our desired to live out our dream life was getting more intense each and everyday that we lived. The whole ‘normal life’ of Sam (my hubby) going to work his arse off for a company he didn’t really care for and me staying and home with the kids doing house duties trying to form a business to support our dream life just didn’t resonate with us any longer – we wanted more passion & purpose to life!
We loved this quote from ‘Into the wild’ – it stuck like glue: “You’re going to live a long time… You should make a radical change in your life…The core of mans spirit comes from new experiences“
So we just knew that it was inevitable – it HAD to be done… we had to fulfill the need to “just do it” regardless of the current circumstances.
We Did Not Have The Perfect Situation :
~ we had no plan we just knew that we NEEDED to travel we needed something more meaningful to our lives.
~ we had no money saved… just living week by week and making ends meet
~ We had all our credit cards maxed out and still in debt from our car loan
~ We had no idea or promises or guarantees for our future
But We :
~ sold everything we owned, except for a few sentimental things
~ we managed to get yet another loan from the bank to buy our home (aka camper trailer) – that’s another amazing story in itself!
~ I was eager to make my coaching business work even though there were no guarantees that it would work (wasn’t making any money at the time)
~ Sam gave up his job with the only faith in my biz working
~ We gave up any form of ‘security’
The Day We Set Out On Our New Lifestyle Adventure ~
With Everything We Own
All the above would seem like a totally irresponsible act particularly as parents… but you know what, we had every little bit of eagerness and faith just to make it work – it just HAD to work!
The only thing we did for preparation:
The only preparation that I had done for living out our dream life was to prepare myself on a mindset level. Months before we set out our new lifestyle I had an inspired idea… I thought that people really need to know whats involved in creating a dream lifestyle… they need to be pre-pared to change their mindsets if they truly want to create their dream lifestyle AND keep it! So I set out to get the best people I knew of to explain it in intense and dynamic interviews – i picked their brains – I wanted to know ALL the ins and outs and I wanted other people to know too!
I wanted someone to talk about Money mind-set, The laws of the universe, how to actually achieve and set your goals so they come into reality AND people need to know what it’s really like to live a lifestyle of your dreams – Thus the Freedom Family BreakFree Program was born! Want to know more about the FFBFProgram? Then its waiting for you….Click here to visit Tara.
My baby that helped me get from an almost lifeless life just getting by to something that fills my heart and soul each day whether positive or negative, it all contributes to me as a person!

Things People Ask!
People ask “how long will you travel” and we reply “we don’t know… until we find a place that captures our hearts” People assume and we are on a holiday, living life the easy way, just traveling Australia… nothing could be further from the truth! The difference is that with a lot of our ‘bad’ situations is that we look at it differently than most people would.
No money one week encourages us to be more responsible for our own lifestyle, that only WE have the power to keep it this way. Sometimes that means Sam working for others or me really getting serious about living my passion and purpose in my coaching biz.
Our Kids Education :
How do our kids cope!? Perfectly well. I cannot express how important our journey has been to them and their growth a development (Tate is 2 and charlotte 3 1/2). Before we began to travel we lived a really basic lifestyle…. we liked it! Our kids thrive off their imagination, they prefer nature than plastic toys…..
Charley Creating A Racing Car Track From Bark
They are ever so patient with us as parents. We have a few meltdown a stress moments and they unknowingly remind us of why we are doing what we are doing. They are our gate keepers to our lifestyle – our dream!
They will happily sit in the car for up to six hours (with entertainment of course) while we travel to our next adventure or as Charlotte says our “home”. It’s like they just know that life is for living .
They educated themselves with nature and ipad/iphone and DVD’s (suiting their particular interests at the time). The go with the flow most of the time!
kids entertaining themselves with stones while we pack!
Education and learning is so important to THEM! We as the parents also think it’s important, but our kids are the eager ones to learn…. its evident in their many questions and requests for certain things. We don’t believe in forced learning because we can clearly see that in our children (and in every child we have ever met) that learning and educating one self if is inedible – it just HAS to happen.
People often ask how we educate our children on the road and we say “They are Road Schooled” they say “we haven’t heard of that” or assume that it’s a legit term… but we just made it up on the spot. NOT being Bias here but we always get comments of how much our kids ‘know’ and how out going and friendly they are and how they are so adjustable to situations. Our kids know who to approach and trust in all the different places we stay, it seems to come so natural to them, I sometimes wish I was more tuned in to ‘vibes’ about people.
My kids don’t run to everyone… they choose the people the hang with wisely and perhaps they see who they can learn the most off too! Charlotte wanted a book read to her once but I and Sam were busy, so she looked around and spotted a young guy and went to him and asked if he could read her a book (sam was near by), and he said he doesn’t know much english and Sam suggested that he reads it in t French (he was french) so he did. Charlotte loved it… and you know what else, she learned some french words at the age of 3! She also learnt that even if someone has a different language that you can still communicate with them… I wish I leant this as a child!
Charlotte Learning French
Excuses – we all have em!
We often get comment like “oh we could never do that because of X, Y and Z” or “I couldn’t handle schooling my kids” or “You’re so brave” or “Maybe when the kids are older…” Or “It’s good to do it while your kids are young..” (while they validate themselves!). These are all excuses! We had excuses too! But the question we had to ask ourselves constantly was “HOW BADLY DO WE WANT IT?”
We wanted to sooooo badly! So we went pass the excuses and the ‘hows’ and set out our journey.
Our lifestyle is not perfect – what is perfect anyhow? We have many ups and downs but we are finding that we continue to WANT to live our dream lifestyle we are more eager to continue on. A normal life in a house away from nature and a true understanding of ‘who we are’ does not appeal to us! Our biggest lesson in our whole 7 month Journey (feels like so much longer) is that we need to keep growing on a personal level and we NEED to live out our life on purpose and with passion – otherwise what’s the point?

New Life on the Road
Tara, I love that you had the courage to follow your heart. It can be such a difficult thing to do.
All I know is that the decisions I’ve made based on my heart I’ve never regretted, but the ones where I ignored my instincts…. not so much.
Thanks for this! Very inspiring.
