We left the most amazing place – the most amazing family. I wished I had thought to take photos of the gorgeous people we were staying with, but the last few weeks (leading up to leaving Sarina) was crazy to say the least! We do have lots of great memories, and lots of wonderful times to look back on. The day we left was so very rushed, and we didnt head off till nearly dinner time. Actually I think it was way after 5.00 pm by the time we hit the road.
We had planned to stay at St Lawrence for the night but the gorgeous family we were staying with suggested we tried Waverley Creek Rest Area as its still on the highway (St Lawrence Road Side Rest Area is off the main highway) and it is also looked after by volunteers who provided tea/coffee to those that are travelling.
The beauty of the stop over was how much car/motorhome/caravan spaces where available. I could easily imagine that it would get very busy during school holidays and could easily become crowded yet we loved that we had a few places to choose where to park our Motorhome and where to park our car. Yeah we do have two vehicles with us for the time being – only because David needs to build a trailer. (Will have more about that soon – since we have travelled down with our car something has happened!)
We Parked Easily ~
It lightly Rained over night.
The Irony Of Where We Stayed.
The Road Side Rest Area is run by volunteers. The weekend before we went there it was run by the “Sarina Rotary Club” – the day we stopped to stay for over night it was run by “Waverley Creek Rest Area“. The irony of that very club manning the Driver Reviver Rest Stop did not escape David’s notice.
Keep Safe While Driving ~
Stopping in at Driver Reviver Rest Stops!
After all David has spent so long on restoring our Motorhome and there was members from the club who own/restore classics! We even got to hear from one member who had so much history to share about his own car, that he has owned for over 20 years and has on sold it to another club member who guarantees that the vehicle will stay in Mackay…the vehicle that has only three made of that make/model. That blew us away – a car that there is only three in the whole world….he even knew that one was in England and one was in Brisbane (he wanted the other one to stay living in Mackay for ever if possible!).
New Toilet Facilities.
At Waverley Creek Rest Area there is a new toilet block with clean facilities that are a pleasant to use. There is no showers but the lack of water is something that we all didn’t mind cause we were were so very grateful to have a nice place to stay for dinner and somewhere we could rest our tired heads.
There is a noticeable coming and going of traffic, but even that was not going to stop us from getting sleep! Trucks and Travellers could be seen/heard coming and going, yet it was not an issue.
There is also lots of picnic tables, but we couldn’t seem to find any BBQ areas (mind you we arrived there in the darkness and couldn’t see in the darkness, and then when we woke up in the morning we were so focused on getting on the road that we forgot to have a look!).
Water is an issue – there is no drinking water, so if you have a caravan/motorhome/camper trailer then make sure you fill up before heading to Waverley Creek Rest Area.
All in all we thought it was a great spot to stop over night and would happily stay there again if we ever needed to!
Great Spots To Stop n Eat!
Thanking you for a Free Camping Night Queensland!
Cheers
Lisa
New Life on the Road.
We have stayed there also, great facilities very tidy area. Well done to everyone who contribute to keeping the area clean & maintained.
Its great to hear from another Traveller, and yeah it is a great area to stop over night 🙂
Looks great in the photos. A pity there’s no water. Even some tank water that you can boil up would be useful. The place has plenty of rain.
Yeah Tank Water would be ideal at Waverley Creek Rest Area 🙂
