Amazing how used we our to our New Life (style) and living in a Motorhome – that is on a fine day! Add rain to the equation of living in a Motorhome with four very active boys and its a different question altogether.
What Is It Like Living In A Motorhome When It Rains?
Yesterday it has rained and rained! It actually has not stopped raining so we have had a lot of inside play – and a lot of cubby houses being made:) Days like that and I so wished we had an Outdoor Room for our boys to escape to!
Raining Nearly All Day 🙂
Yesterday I Received The Best News!
I wrote for a competition that Nuffnang was holding to be invited to Melbourne…..for a Christmas Cocktail Party. I never get the chance to party so I was so amazed when I received the phone call to be told that I won!
Which means I get to escape from Life for two days, and our Motorhome! I will be partying in Melbourne on Thursday night, and fingers are crossed that I get see my son on Saturday. You see I havent seen him for a very long time – not since we waved goodbye to him in Brisbane.
That means I will be offline for the next three days – I don’t have the latest technology with me….so I wont be online unless I can find an Internet Cafe 🙂
When Its Sunny
When the sun is out then our boys are able to get outside and play. We love the sunny days – they are so much fun! But when its raining like it has been then the three younger boys become very loud, very creative inside, and every bed is no longer made!
Our boys love playing at the beach 🙂
Our Day to Day Living
Our Lifestyle is different to most families, yet similar to the families that are living on the road.
We get up very early in the morning – as soon as the Sun is up our boys are usually awake. They so do not get that from me…I love my sleep!
David makes me organic fair trade plunger coffee – we both love our morning coffee!
Then he makes the most yummiest smoothies in the world 😉
He then goes out the door to work.
Once he is gone our boys can either make their first breakfast, or their second breakfast. Usually they have a bowl of porridge, or a bowl of cornflakes and then they make toast. Gosh can they eat 🙂
Depending if it’s a fine day will depend on when we do homeschooling work – or head to the pool for a swim. I love it when we can head to the pool because our boys sleep so much better after a few hours swimming.
Zachery’s Idea of Homeschooling – creating!
By about 10.30am they are all asking “What’s For Lunch. What Time is Lunch” So they usually have a sandwich and fruit!
Then they usually have their heads in a book, or lego, or playing board games, or playing cricket (if it’s a sunny day!) or jumping off our bed with pillows! They make games out of our bed because it’s so high off the floor!
Our boys love exploring Caves 🙂
I usually make our bed about two times a day….or three times 🙂 Then I sweep the floor, about four times a day! Wash the dishes about four times a day….and make about 100 sandwiches a day (maybe not that many!!) and try to keep up to date with the HUGE amount of washing.
Afternoons
Once David gets home from work he helps with any homeschooling work that I couldn’t answer…and helps with showers/dinner!
We love to have dinner outside as a family – its my favorite time of the day! We get to talk, laugh, and eat dinner before its book time. David jumps onto our bed to read the younger boys books, while I wash the dishes. Usually Zach helps with drying the dishes, and then one of the other boys puts the dishes away.
Having Dinner Outside means cuddle time with Dad!
All of our boys are HUGE bookworms 🙂
Sometimes we all get to bed about 8.30 – 9.00 pm. Sometimes I am still blogging, or David has the computer and I am reading – lately I have been reading my favorite books to very late at night!
Then before we know its time to start all over again.
We love the weekends – that is where we get to explore the beaches, the local markets, the fishing spots or even the local attractions!
We have the best lifestyle.
What do you Love about your lifestyle?
Cheers
Lisa
A memory from when I is the one road trip we took where we actually slept in our giant van. It hailed that evening, and no one slept a wink. Haven’t slept in a moving vehicle since:)

Hello Deej,
That sounds like a great memory! Funny how at first the rain used to worry me – but now I am used to it 🙂

At least in a motor home you’ve got a roof over your head. I can remember cycling around France and it raining. Not a lot of fun cycling in the rain – or setting up the tent in a soggy wet field – and everything is wet. Happy days 🙂

You have certainly got a few of you all crammed in when it gets rainy! Do you ever go stir crazy? hehe What i love about my lifestyle is living close to the city so I can go shopping and out to town whenever i want!

Hey Lisa, so interesting to hear what your day is like living on the road… I’m curious, what does your hubby David do? How does he work while you’re travelling so much or do you go where he gets jobs? Congrats on your eldest getting into the Navy – what an adventure for him and perhaps a little bit of a scary time for you as well as you wave him off? Thanks so much for your regular comments on the blog… I’ve been reading yours too but I don’t always get catch up reading time or time to comment… my two year old usually spots me on the computer and tries to get me off! You asked why we’re nudging Santa out of the picture… My parents were missionaries and we grew up with Santa and stockings but as I’ve gotten older and found my own faith too… I’m finding that Santa, while a lovely tradition, is a bit of a distraction for me from ‘the real point of Christmas’ – the birth of Jesus. I guess living in Australia it all comes more sharply into focus as a summer Christmas + snow/fur boots and sleighs seem more at odds with each other. the kids all realized on their own quite young that Santa wasn’t real and while I love the stories of Saint Nicholas and their origins, I find myself more than a little uncomfortable purposely perpetuating the whole reindeer landing on the roof, home in the north pole thing. I loved reading this post http://www.aholyexperience.com/2011/11/what-if-we-really-renamed-the-christmas-story-after-him/ – which really for me just sums up what the ‘spirit of Christmas’ really is. Sorry, bit of an epic comment!!! Sophiex

Hi Sophie,
Hubby is a boat builder by trade but he can really do anything with his hands! He builds and repairs caravans. He picks up work really easily 🙂
Amazing how my views are changing about Christmas. I keep thinking about “What ever happened to the real meaning of Xmas?” lately!!
Love reading your comment, and I love reading your blog post. Will check out the link you have provided. Its amazing how much ones inner thoughts can change over time. We used to buy so many gifts for our boys – too many for them to even open up – but because of the space in our Motorhome we are thinking about what we really need instead of going over board with gifts!
Cheers

ps, are you on twitter?? I”d love to follow you on there if you are!

Hi Lisa,
I can’t imagine what it would be like for you and your family during rainy days. How can you survive long showers?! And also I love your family’s lifestyle, so adventurous so interesting. Being back home in my hometown right now, my lifestyle would be different from Australia. Being stuck everyday at home. Interesting article again Lisa! Keep it up
Best regards,
Wilson

Hi Wilson,
We love it when the sun is out 🙂
Rainy days are nuts not ideal when living in a Motorhome – but we are getting used to it!
