We are willing to share so much from our New Life – from renovations, to our family stories/back ground. Parenting styles and our boys. Pretty Much everything about our New lifestyle.
But there are some things that we wont share because we are who we are! We love to connect with like minded people, and show what our Motorhome looks like compared to what it was like when we purchased it from eBay. If we were living in a house (fixed address) and we shared our renovations again there would be some things that we would like to keep private.
Let me explain in a bit more detail ::
I learnt to blog before we started this blog “New Life on the Road” – I paid a LOT of money to learn from the best of the best, and I have applied all that I have learnt and keep on applying new techniques as I acquire the information. So really what you find here is blog posts set up with SEO techniques (Search Engine Optimization). That is how we rank number one on Google for so many “Terms” (blog headings).
David even searched online last night for parts of our engine and our blog post came up on Google number one page!
What We Will Share ::
* Our Motorhome Renovations from the start to ongoing renovations.
* Our homeschooling unschooling style – which we are changing every single day. We used to be really strict with having to do school work via books, now we are realising that they learn more from living life.
* How strong our marriage/love is growing since we live/travel together full time.
* What we believe in and what we support. (we are supporters of World Vision)
* Our travelling plans (we really don’t have that many!) and where we have visited.
* How our boys are different. We don’t have your average every day kids. Our boys are different. One of them has special needs but he is not treated differently nor does he realise that because of the way he was born he was affected. We teach them that no matter what they can achieve their dreams. But we will only share what we are comfortable sharing about them!
* Our crazy sense of humor. David and I do have a very crazy way of writing – we like to keep it funny as possible. Some people get there, some people don’t. But that is who we are!!
* Our boys names…..most bloggers actually come up with different names for their Kids so that they are safe in the real world. If I had thought about that before blogging here maybe I would have come up with fake names, but then again that would be very confusing for me and you!
* 27 Things You Dont Know About Us – I wrote this awhile ago – you can jump on there and read more about our family!
What We Will NOT Share ::
* If we lived in a house that did not move around there is NO way we would share our address. Its simple – we want our privacy to a certain degree and hubby (Dave used to be a security guard and we are trying to uninstall his strict security measures) wants to protect his family. He thinks about his boys rights to be safe living in a Motorhome and he always asks me not to reveal where we are at the time.
So if you do see an update on our Facebook page, and it mentions our location, normally it will be after we have visited the location. Its the way he wants to keep on sharing our lifestyle in a safe way.
* Our porta-loo. It is one smelly place, and there is no way would I want to share that with anyone, even our boys do not like how smelly it is. If you can imagine living next door to the local sewage dump, times that by 100 then you can image how smelly that thing gets!
We have been talking about what solution we can come up with because we want to experience more of Australia (without having to be parked up in Caravan Parks). To install a normal toilet we need to re-do our Shower floor so its not an easy job….but knowing David he will come up with some solution.
YEP! Our shower/Porta-Loo so needs a good clean!
* Our boys behaviour. Like I said our boys are not your every day Australian Kids….we only share here what we want our boys to read many years down the track, and be proud of who they are. Living with our boys takes a lot of patience (we could label them with ADD or Autism or many other names but we do not go down that pathway) and sometimes David and I run out of patience. Those days are not the best of our days so we will not be sharing that here.
* Travelling with others. We know that our family is not suitable for long term travelling with other families – we realise that we would lose friendships that way. So we are not being rude when we decline to travel full time with other travelling families. We are a very private family who sticks to themselves. Actually if we did not have this blog you wouldn’t know who we are – sometimes I get called “Stuck Up” but its not that…its cause I am too shy to meet new people!!
* How we fund our travels. We share some of what we do, but again its a privacy issue that David likes to keep within our family!
* Friends names. We share online bloggers who we meet up with, but our Friends deserve their own privacy – so if we do share our wonderful experiences with other people we will call them “Man of the House” and “Lady of the House”
* Our older sons first name. Due to his Job we are not allowed to share his name online. So he will be called “Woody’s Oldest Son”
Hope that explains a bit more about our family way of thinking….and living.
I have had a few questions lately and I thought sharing them here would be better than having to reply to ever single one each time they came in. This is our way of living, its not suitable for everyone but it works for our family!
Q :: If you had a blog (or do have one) what do you share?
What wont you share?
Thanking you for following our journey.
Cheers

Hi Lisa,
I have met you and your boys the first time was when I was at my very first seminar, you David and the boys were sitting against the wall and the boys came across to me as very well behaved and a credit to you and David. I have followed you since.
I love the place you are now I recognised it as a place we stayed some years ago.

Hi Lisa, I am new to the nomad style of life so been doing a lot of research etc online and came across this thread on handling toilet smells that you may find helpful 🙂
http://www.caravanersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18339&view=unread.
Also wanted to let you know you and your hubby are not alone about what you will and wont share, even though we dont have kids travelling with us we stil feel that you need to be discreet for safety reasons with what you post online.
Hi Nett,
Thanking you – will check out the link to see if it can help (sure hope so!!)
Its tricky trying to be careful with what we are willing to share, as long as our boys are safe then we are happy!
Thanks for the great connection.
Cheers
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Before your readers get the opinion that your boys are crazy, I would like to say that I have met your family, (apart from Woody’s Oldest Son) and even though we arrived at a very inopportune time we were genuinely welcomed.
Your boys were a delight and in fact just sat quietly while we talked! Anyway, what if they hadn’t – I am sure they would have been entertaining. lol.
Love what you share from your travelling life.
PS Your lives will be perfect when you get rid of the smelly loo, and I have faith in David sorting that one out.

Thanking you Jan for your very kind words…they did really well that day!!
We are working out what makes us comfortable to share, what we would rather not share 🙂
Looking forward to the day David works on how to deal with the toilet smell.
I LOVE reading your post’s! I think its so fun to live through the traveling families I follow. Your family is the 2nd that I have found that does this and I think it is so COOL
That all being said, I have a family myself and would be just as cautious. I am in awe of the dedication to your children you and your husband have both in the travel and the un schooling. WOW God Bless
Hi Megan,
Thanking you for the great connection 🙂
And for your kind words.
David is more security thoughtful then I am…but we work together as a team so I am mindful with what I share!
Thanking you.
Cheers

Hey Lisa, good to read this and have a little think about what I share and don’t share. I’m not sure I have a specific list but it’s very interesting reading yours!

Yeah I never used to think about what I did share/didn’t share until we got a few questions asking for information that Dave is not happy to share 🙂
Interesting to hear what other bloggers do share/dont share.
Cheers

Privacy does cause a few hassles and I am fortunate in that all of our kids are adults and as such I don’t have to overly concern myself with their privacy issues. As to where we are, I am OK with that as I welcome the opportunity to meet with other bloggers.
Just because we blog, doesn’t mean we have to open every aspect of our lives to the public. We have the right to determine how much and what we reveal to others whether it be one on one or via blogs and social media. I am one who asked where you are only with the idea of inviting you around to socialize with us if you would like. But that is up to you.
As for the toilet issue, there is no simple answer. A porta poo is not the best way, but unless you can vacuum seal the toilet area off, you will have some smells. If we are anywhere near a public toilet then we prefer to use that especially for the #2’s. A fan and an open window is the best smell removal. I have found that using a generic nappysan in the toilet helps break it down and keep the smell at bay but it is not the best thing for the environment, being bleach based. Also a quality room deodrant such as AmbiPur does mask the smell better than a generic brand!
Maybe we will meet on the road one day!

Hi Michelle,
Actually there was a few people who wanted to know where we are parked, (the name of the Caravan Park) and that is something that we don’t share until we moved on 🙂
We love meeting new people all of the time, and connecting with other bloggers – its the issue of having our privacy for our boys safety when we stop for a period of time that we treasure.
We sure need an air vent for our porta-loo. David is thinking about putting in a toilet system, he just needs to work out the best way in such a small space!
Knowing him he will find a way!
Cheers

Well you’ve probably worked out that I’ll share anything! I probably wouldn’t publish our address online as we can’t wander off down the road tomorrow but that’s about all I’d keep private. It’s too hard for me trying to filter who I am. I too would have loved to have caught up with you last week but it occurs to me that you weren’t where I thought you were. If it’s not going to be accurate I’d leave it off Facebook frankly because really what’s the point of posting after the fact? And it’s too bad you’re shy because if I ever come across you in a rest area you are so getting a visit from me!! My hubby is a truck driver so expect a visit from Gert too if he spots you! Lol!

We share so much, that sometimes its hard not too! I am not as security minded as David but because he has seen way more than I ever have (or would want to) I respect his way of wanting to protect his own family.
If you ever want to meet up, please send me an email – would love to meet you and your Hubby…hope he wasn’t held up with being stuck behind us the other day!! Gosh were we slow coming into Wollongong 🙂
I like to share where we are and what we are doing, sometimes I share too much and Dave reminds me that I need to re-think what I have posted!!
Not sure how those bloggers remember their kids online names when blogging – I sure would forget that…I have enough trouble remember their correct names in real life!!!
Oh I find it super annoying when bloggers talk about everyone in these code names, I get why but I always get everyone muddled up. I think when just starting out blogging these things aren’t thought about, now some things I shared in the early days I’d take back if I could. I’m cautious about putting up pics of the kids yet they are part of the family and our story can’t be complete without them.
I don’t mind talking about our son’s autism and how we as a family all relate to each other. Many people think that a diagnosis of ASD means limitations and we think quite the opposite, I can’t wait to start schooling on the road and have the kids learn directly from life rather than having them try to fit into a system that just doesn’t see their strengths and wants them to fit in the box. Not OUR kids, no way, I see the system failing them both and know we are doing the right thing for all of us.
I love this post Lisa it really got me thinking about what we share and don’t share. The wonderful thing is that you are so open and direct with your wishes for your family and when we met up that time you easily shared with me your concerns about my saying where you were and that was fine.
One thing that does concern me is how many kids at the school have a fb page even though they are only 10 or younger….your post opens up so many interesting thoughts as always!
sending love to you and the fella’s
love lisa x
Thanks Lisa – I share sometimes more than David is comfortable with me sharing 🙂
But I respect his wishes for our kids safety and privacy.
I think your children are going to LOVE living, travelling and living life rather than the school system. And yep the school system does let our kids down in a very big way.
Its amazing how many young kids are allowed on facebook – we now have three boys who use it but I am their checking up on what they are saying and who they are talking to….our oldest only uses it to keep in touch with us, our second oldest hardly ever uses it, and our third son is only allowed to have really close friends and family connected with him.
Looking forward to following your Italy journey xxx
Hi Lisa! Long time reader, first time commenter. I’m not sure exactly how I came across your blog but it’s been at least a year or so that I’ve been reading along with you. Maybe FOTR??? We’re mid conversion of a school bus to an RV and I’m really trying to come up with a blog name and such to share our journeys. I love reading your ideas about what to share and what not to share. It helped me to start thinking of things I hadn’t yet realized might be a concern. You mention a class that you took for blogging. Might you be able to direct me to such a thing? I often see people talking of switching over from one setup to another and it seems tedious. I’d like to start out on the right foot. Any direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Ivalee,
Congratulations on your Bus Conversion! Thinking about a blog name was David’s idea – and he came up with “New Life on the Road”. Maybe you could ask family/friends to think of a name for your journey?
Regards where to start with blogging…I use WordPress, its the only platform that easy to work with.
And I learnt everything I know from Sean Rasmussen “Learn how to blog” program – here is my other blog with hints/tips on what and how to set it up – http://learnhowtoblogsite.net/ Here is a direct link to Sean’s Program – http://lhtb.kajabi.com/sp/10018-1-dollar-trial
Mind you I haven’t blogged on that for a very long time – no longer have the time for it!!
I have also picked up hints/tips from Problogger – http://www.problogger.net/
Hope that helps.
Will do a blog post asap about what I have learnt etc.
Cheers

Hello again, Lisa!
I’ve been meaning to drop by and thank you for sharing the information and links. I could be considered a bit of a commitment-phobe so naming and location of the blog have been the crux of the issue for me. I plan to get it all worked out very soon though. Thanks again!
Ivalee
Hi Ivalee,
So glad the links helped 🙂
All the best with your adventure – once you have your blog set up let me know – be great to read another RV owner blog!
Cheers
