Yesterday I was keen to find a sign that I had seen before….I kinda knew where I had seen it, but wasn’t sure if it was a water fall, bush walk or a dam??
And yes I did find Avon and Nepean Dam after stopping into Wirrimbirra Sanctuary…..which was a big surprise stop! I hadn’t planned to stop there but I saw the sign, we were all very hot and sick of travelling so it was like it was meant to be.
Mind you I wished I had money on me instead of my card!
Wirrimbirra Sanctuary ::
Its a bit confusing when you pull up and park the car, there is no Signage saying that the Sanctuary is separate to the Dingo and no signs saying which direction the Wirrimbirra Sanctuary is…so we went towards the Office Sign!
The Sanctuary runs on Volunteers – and its so well kept! The place was spotless, and the volunteers were so very friendly. I wished I had money on me so that I could have made a donation to the wishing well as we walked through the gates.
It was such a hot day, we were all heat affected…..so the Mango Ice-Cream went down really good. And yes Cameron is playing his Samsung Tablet even while out and about 🙂
The Small entry fee seems to small!!! Like I said I wished I had money with me to add to the wishing well for the upkeep of the place, as well as helping to feed the animals. The Sanctuary does not receive any funding of any sorts, no one is in a paid position and the board {community} is also volunteer based!
Not sure why but Emu’s happen to really scare me…maybe cause its the story of one of them chasing a member of my family – the chase happened many years ago but I have heard the story so many times and it scares me so very much!!!
There was HEAPS of Rock Wallaby and Kangaroos {never have been able to tell the difference between the two?} but I think they were affected by the sudden warm day just like we were…they were smart, sitting still in the shadows.
Our animal lover Kyle was so very happy to walk along the path-way to see all of the different animals at Wirrimbirra Sanctuary…..he even got to see a Red-Belly Black Snake which was crossing the footpath….actually he spotted it just as Cameron was walking past it! Luckily they both stood still to let the snake continue on its way.
What a great idea – sponsoring an animal to help with looking after it! So good to see how the Sanctuary is able to provide such a clean, well looked after place….through those that are kind enough to sponsor one of the many animals.
Very impressed with the way its all set up….
Mind you would have liked to see a sign at the car park which one to go to arrive to the Sanctuary, and more signs saying that the Dingo enclosure was separate from the left side!! Apparently they Dingoes used to be part of the same place but is now branched off into their own company.
We could hear the Dingoes – they sure made our spines chill with the way they all howled together! And we couldn’t see how to pay to enter the Dingoes cause we couldn’t find their office? Seen as how their was a family pass to the Dingoes I thought we might go back another time with David!
Wirrimbirra Sanctuary location!
All in all it was a great day out, and one we would like to do again!
Check back later here for some amazing photos of the Avon Dam and Nepean Dam!
Have You Been To The Wirrimbirra Sanctuary?
Cheers

Wow what a great looking place. And how super awesome that it is all done by volunteers. There really are some awesome people out there.
Rhianna recently posted..Things I Know About Mobile Phones and Not Having One.
It is a wonderful place to visit – and yep its incredible how the Volunteers have done such a wonderful job ~so nice to see how kind people are.
I’m glad to say our kids are suckers for wildlife too – it’s something I push BIG TIME because I feel it’s a good trait to care for animals. Have a great week ahead! Emily 🙂
Yeah my kids LOVE animals big time! They both want Birds, and they have been talking about buying a farm with cows, horses and sheep on it 🙂
Thanks Emily – you too!
