Wollongong Science Centre

Friday 1st March we drove into Wollongong Science Centre. I had been past it once before and was so keen to go back and check it out with our two younger boys….and I am so glad we did!

They had the best time ever, going from display to display – joining in each station. Trying to work out what to do and how to move the animals or the blocks, or even lift up bricks!

First Display ::

The First Display that both Cameron and Kyle headed to was a moving Elephant – at first I thought it was a Dinosaur. But once I saw Cameron and Kyle spinning the steering wheels I realised it was a trunk that was moving!

Cameron and Kyle headed straight here first….

they LOVED making each part of the Elephant Move.

At first we thought this was a dinosaur but then we realised it was a Elephant!!

Moving each part took a lot of concentration!

There is two floors at Wollongong Science Centre so we will for sure have to go back. We are thinking about a yearly pass so that we can go whenever we feel like escaping from the Motorhome, or so that we can spend more time reading each board at each display.  I think that they were so excited so they skipped over the education information so that they could explore.

One thing that did capture all of our attention was the Bee Display. It has live bees with a tunnel going from the hive to the outside world, and you could actually see the bees at work….that was probably the hi-light of the Science Centre for me….while our boys LOVED the interactive display where there were fake bricks that had to be pulled up and down on the display, with a ramp, wheelbarrow and safety gear that they could dress up in…..

Like I said I think that we will have to go back!

Our boys joined two other boys ~

and had a blast moving fake bricks around!

It was good to watch how gentle Kyle was with another little boy.

who enjoyed our boys and our boys enjoyed them.

While I was watching Kyle playing I was able to talk to the two boys Grandmother….who was helping out her daughter by having them for the day. Wonder if she realised how very lucky she is to have a Mum who can spend good quality time with her Grandkids and enjoy having them? I would love that family support :)

The only thing that I thought was strange was having to pay parking fees. It cost us to stay in the car park (I cant remember how much we ended up paying?) as well as cost us to get into the Science Centre. Hoping with a yearly pass that we are not charged parking fees?

All in all it was a great day out, with lots to see and do. One that we be doing again soon.

  2. Hi Lisa

Really good to hear you had a lovely time at our Science Centre! Always nice to see family enjoying learning and having fun together.
Just wanted to drop a note after seeing your mention regarding parking – its free for our visitors! We have signage at the drop gate and at reception but sadly this was missed. Sorry you missed this but hope you will return and the annual pass is very good value with lots of other benefits and of course the free parking. By the way we have a few exciting new exhibits coming so hope to see you all again soon.
    Best wishes
