We live full time in our Motorhome – or as you Americans say “RV” and couldn’t imagine living full time in a house anymore. Yes, the private room would be nice, a bathtub and a toilet would be amazing.
But Motorhome Living FullTime is really ideal and addictive. Especially for someone who LOVES to get rid of stuff – I have this idea that no-one is born on this world with “Stuff” and NO ONE can be buried with “Stuff” when they die. So what is the point to owning a heap of “Stuff”.
Every week I have a huge cleanout and donate so much to lifeline or a charity bin as much as I can. I love to empty out a cupboard, and only put back things we do use on a regular basis. I so could easily live out of a suitcase – and have lived away from our motorhome for about 2 months, with only the clothes that I really needed.
But its really hard when you have a Hubby who buys so many things all of the time, and a kid who loves to hoard things in case they might become useful one day!
Motorhome Living Full Time
Its called “Tiny Homes” in some countries, or “Skoolie” – America has so many old School Buses converted into a Tiny Home/RV. In America, their old school buses are way bigger than what we have in Australia.
Some of them even have a back door as an exit door. Where here in Australia our old school buses usually have the back window as an emergency exit {smash the window out}.
David didn’t get to build our motorhome as it was already built. But he did renovate it from the front to the back. With a few touches now completed by our youngest son Kyle {will show you what he has done, keep reading!}
For those that are keen to know how to go about RV Living Full Time here is a great book “RV Living – An Ultimate Beginner’s Guild to the Full time RV life” {get your copy by clicking on the RV Living word}* – please note we will get a small commission when you buy the book about RV living. It will help us to buy a cup of coffee 🙂
On YouTube you will see some amazing Tiny Homes and “Skoolie” conversions. I love the channel “Living Big in A Tiny Home” where they tour the world, speaking to the Tiny Home Owners on the way they have designed and built their tiny home.
This is one of my all time favorites!
How amazing is the design, the colours and the use of a tiny space. I love it and so could easily live in it full time.
Can You Live In A Motorhome Fulltime?
Motorhome Living Full Time will mean that you must put things away in their space to make it look tidy and neat at all times. When things get left out and are left lying around, then space becomes even smaller. So Yep the use of cupboards is a must, and keep things to a minimum is a must.
Would you be able to downsize your home into a tiny space? At first, we all struggled with the lack of space, but now I find that houses are a waste of space. Takes way too much time to clean a house, such a waste of time. When you can be out exploring and looking for the next waterfall.
Hints on How To Live Fulltime in a Motorhome
{with kids and two rescue dogs!}
- Use Cupboard spaces wisely. Clean them out on a regular base and only put back in what you do use on a regular bases.
- Don’t buy stuff all of the time – think about if you really do need it or can easily live without it {biggest hint to Hubby and my son!!}
- Build Cupboards where there is space and shelves to make use of the space
- Put things away after they have been used – if everyone puts down things and walks away then it soon adds up to big piles of things that are taking up seating space
- Use the Marie Kondo Method – to clean out cupboards, to find clothes, to store kitchen items and to even store pantry items. Less Stuff means more
- Take the time to clean up every morning and every night before bed. It makes it feel so good when you wake up to a clean Motorhome
- Everyone has to pitch in and help out – more hands, less work
- Raise your bed height to add storage space under the bed. Especially great for things like winter sheets, or winter clothes.
If you are lucky enough to be able to build your RV/Tiny Home/Schoolie then take the time to look at as many as possible. Research, design, and design again. Even take the time/money to hire a designer to maximize the use of the space that you are going to live in. After all Motorhome Living Fulltime is only enjoyable when it’s your personal space/taste/colors and has your soul stamped all over it.
Are You Motorhome Living Fulltime?
Do you have a blog or instagram account that I can check out? Would love to see what you have done with your own tiny home. Share it in the comments below.
Oh and check out what Kyle built for me this week! I have been wanting a plant shelf for over a year. I should have just asked Kyle to build it 🙂
Kyle built this shelf, with brackets {from Bunnings} with the idea that the wood can be folded down when not in use. He even took off the wall its on to find the frame of the Motorhome so that he knew where the brackets could be attached with the screws. That way it wasn’t screwed into thin air and would easily fall off.
The hat rack – have been wanting that for ages! Now we have somewhere to hang his bike helmets.
He had leftover wood so he made me another shelf – in our kitchen. With homemade braces! I love this kid so much 😉
How Clever Is Kyle?
Are You Downsizing?
Cheers
Lisa
