Every year they have a Baffle Creek Raft Race where you can build your own, or turn up and they supply all the stuff needed to make one on the spot and race {its called a “Dogs Breakfast Race”}. We haven’t even been up to Baffle Creek before so I was keen to see what the town was like. We decided to join the Bundaberg Homeschooling group who were staying on a friends property for a spot of of Free Camping!
Baffle Creek Raft Race ::
Cameron and Kyle did make rafts at Grandma and Grandad’s place but they didn’t end up using them. Instead everyone got together and made one that could hold 5 of the homeschooling boys.
Yeah that Swimming Pool was freezing! He fell in a few times. You can see the short video of him trying it out on our Instagram account.
They had this raft last year that they used, but there was more kids this year so they had to remodel it and make it bigger/stronger and have more room. Next year the homeschooling Dad’s want to take part so there is going to be two rafts made!
Actually I think us Mums should have a go as well!
They all were given four tyres and a board, with some rope. And they had to make the Raft as fast as possible, and enter the water asap to paddle out to the markers and back as quick as possible. They did so really well for a Homeschooling group of young ones against adults!
Then they entered again with a different categories but the same idea! This time they didn’t watch how the board entered the water and the set of two tyres ended up on each other so they couldn’t climb aboard and paddle but they still manage to win!
Here are four Bundaberg homeschooling boys on one raft, and another homeschooling boy on his Raft that his Mama made! It was so very cool to see them determined to enter and race against the adults – so much for “how do they socialize when they are homeschooled” question!
The “Dogs Breakfast” entry is more fair because everyone has to build the same raft – with four tyres and a board with rope. The “homemade Rafts” are not really a fair race because some of those rafts are built years ago and perfected over time – but that’s okay cause next year Homeschooling Dad’s want to make two rafts – one for them – and then they will be racing! So it will be interesting to see the Homeschooling team against the Dads/Adults that are going to enter.
They were all over the moon at winning two trophies. They are talking about making a display case to hold them all in so they can add more to it next year. They have kept them up on the Farm we stayed at because that is where the raft making is going down, and where the camping happens!
After the wonderful Baffle Creek Raft Race we decided to see if there was any caches in the area and bingo there was one at this sweet church! Can you all guess who found it?
Oh and there is also one where the Baffle Creek Raft Race is held – I went searching for that one while the boys were waiting around to enter their next race! Wished I did have Kyle with me as it had a great box for swaps!

Will have more pictures of our amazing weekend – sharing how David makes rockets with two simple ingredients!
