If you’re looking for a summer holiday that the whole family will enjoy, then look no further than up-and-coming destination Costa Rica. This little country in Central America has well and truly got it all – from white sand beaches to volcanoes, jungle and adrenalin-pumping activities. Make this an adventure holiday with a difference!
Push yourself
Costa Rica is getting pretty well-known for its amazing network of zip-wires. If you’ve never tried this (or even if you have), then this is the best place in the world to give it a go. Various networks skim over rivers and through jungle for an exhilarating experience. The world’s longest zip-wire can be found in the beautiful Monteverde Cloud Forest. Stay nearby at the Hidden Canopy Tree-houses for a stay that you and your kids will find really magical.
Try white water rafting on the rivers around the Arenal Volcano or take surfing lessons on the beaches of the Pacific Coast. Soak out the adrenalin in a volcanic hot spring.
Never seen anything like it!

Wild wildlife
This is an ideal ecotourism destination for the nature fans in your family. Home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, the country that has only 0.03% of the world’s landmass, but that is estimated to contain 5% of the world’s biodiversity! Kids will love the excursions on offer in the many cast nature reserves. Go on safari for jaguars, or watch turtles lay their eggs on moonlit beaches.
The wildlife parks of Tortuguero are the best places to see turtles laying eggs and babies hatching out from their shells and making their way down to the sea. A long way from civilisation, the best way to get here is to take a boat trip down the Caribbean Coast canals. You’ll spot sloths and monkeys along the way. June through early October is the peak nesting season for Green Atlantic turtles, so you’ll be more than likely to get lucky and see some.
With Views like that I want to move!!

Beach life
You need to relax, too, and that’s what’s so great about Costa Rica. After a few days of trekking through jungle and cycling around volcanoes, you’ll be ready for a proper beach break.
Try heading to the gorgeous beaches of the Manuel Antonio National Park for some serious rest and relaxation. The waters here are clear and perfect for a morning dip. There are some great hotels to choose from too. Spend the evening dining on seafood and watching the sunset from your terrace.
oh Yeah, I so could relax there!

August weather
During August, temperatures stick steadily around the high-20s, perfect for a hot but not too hot, family holiday. At this time of year, you’ll have to come prepared for the odd tropical shower and cloudy day, but even in the (warm) rain, there’s still plenty to do.

Costa Rica sounds so exotic to me, and so far away! August sounds like the best time to visit. Coming from Australia would flying from L.A. be the best way to arrive?

It sure does sound amazing, and yeah I reckon August would be the ideal time to visit Costa Rica 😉
