After we had explored Golden Gully {and the Township of Hill End} we headed out to do a spot of Golden Mining. If you grab a map of the area from the Information Centre you will see where you are allowed to mine, and where its protected. Some people must not be able to read because we seen people gold mining in Golden Gully!
Gold Mining Hill End ::
So Zachery had fun with our Gold Detector and Kyle had fun gold panning with a small shovel, Gold Pan and the water ~ David showed him how to swish the water around the pan to move the dirt out but keep rocks/gold specks or gems! He had so much fun
David walked to the side of the Hills and used a big shovel of Dirt to add to the Pan. Then carried it down to the water to swish around.
David spent ages bent over in this position, teaching Cameron and Kyle how to pan for Gold. Bent over so much that he ended up with a Headache afterwards!
Zachery preferred the Gold Detector as he was determined to find his piece of Gold. He even disturibed an Ants nest because he was getting a good reading. Mind you the ants let him know they did not want their ants colony relocated!!
All in all the hi-light was watching our boys learning, having fun and discovering how much work is involved with Gold Panning!! They did get a small speck of Gold, not enough to cash in. Next time we return to Gold Mining in Hill End we would like to spend more time with our Gold Detector because we are sure there is “Gold in them Hills” 🙂
Have You Done Gold Detecting in Hill End?
Cheers
