After the amazing previous two events, Dan Barber and Paul Wilson, we were looking forward with anticipation to see what Highway 1 Street Party had in store for us.
David worked out the Bus system so we were able to work out which bus we needed to get there, but mind you we didn’t realise that you can’t pay for your fare on the Bus – you need to have MyKi Card system while travelling Buses/Trams in Melbourne so we did get that bus ride for free.
Well it was only fair considering how rude the bus driver was to us – he was so rude telling us he didn’t have any Myki Cards and then so rude by not telling us when our stop was coming up, luckily we guessed!
The Highway 1 Street Party location was so very weird – to was at Abbotsford Convent, the Gardens of a Convert, I almost expected to see a Ghost Nun walk towards us or a Ghost Priest but we didn’t see either. It felt so spooky but the buildings were incredible, so very worth sitting down for a street party. Such old character to each building, if only those walls could talk.
David headed straight for the beer, I had a few ‘Sips” of Wine, but afterwards also tried this yummy new beer. I am not a big beer drinker but I have to say that the “Bridge Road Brewery” was not bad, it tasted very refreshing. One I would happily buy if we came across it again.
I scrapped the Meat off the Bread roll, gave it to David and ate the rests. Have to say the salad was the best on the whole plate.
Heating the Bread Roll ups – melting the Cheese and cooking the meat. The Spit Meat was slow cooked over night.
David was brave, he tried the “Blood Sausage” – I was not game enough! And yeah it wasn’t a big fan of it. But hey you gotta try everything at least once.
They were cooking “Pit Roast Goat” and serving it up on a Bread Roll with a cabbage mixture. Both David and I tried it – the filling was delicious. The other “Tiny” Breadrolls were fresher tasting so if I was smart enough I would have put the Goat Meat on the Tiny Bread Rolls 🙂
We actually left soon after this picture. We felt like we had enough food/wine/beer and was really craving an ice-cream.
David was very naughty – he had two scopes! I had the Chocolate {I think it was called Double Chocolate} and he had the Macadamia on top. It was the best ice-cream we have had in ages. Actually it was the best way to end the night, walking through the streets of Melbourne, looking at all of the people and the street entertainment while eating something we normally don’t have.
What Would Have Been Better ::
The Highway 1 Street party could have been better if the “Winery” had advertisements so that we knew where the wine was coming from, I tasted a few different wines but I am not sure where they were from? So I wouldn’t know where to purchase those wines from again.
And the food – there was lots of Melbourne’s fine chefs there….but again no Posters/Flyers/Business Cards anywhere so I have no idea where the Chefs normally cook, and can’t thank them for their food.
As being a person who only eats {normally} white meat {chicken or fish} I was a bit disappointed that all of the meat was red. And there wasn’t any vegetarian dishes to chose from.
But hey we got to see Abbotsford Convent and taste so yummy beer, and see the streets of Melbourne. All in all it was a fine way to end a Saturday night.
But wait to you hear about Sunday…..now nothing can beat that day!
Have You Ever Been To A Street Party Before?
Cheers

New Life on the Road.
Sounds amazing. I love that stairs to nowhere shot and the icecream one (not only because it was of ice-cream) but because it is a good photograph. 🙂
jan recently posted..Exploring the Elements or a Photography Challenge
Thanks Jan, the Stairs were incredible….the Abbotsford Convent sure was spectacular. Can only imagine what used to happen when it was fully booked with all of the buildings being used.
Thanks for the kind words about the Ice-Cream Photo 🙂
Cheers

Well worth visitng the Abbotsford Convent when you visit Melbourne.
Glad you had the experience going there.
It was worth going down for Melbourne for the Food and Wine Festival, such an amazing City and we got to see parts of the city we hadn’t seen before. The Abbotsford Convent was full of history.
