On Sunday morning {March 8th} we had to be at Langham Melbourne Masterclass event. We hoped that it was going to be way better day, after our early escape from the Highway Street 1 Party {we are not into Wine so we felt so out of place – why oh why do Wine People swirl the good stuff and then spit it out….what a waste!}
And we were not disappointed.
I melted listening to Eric Kayser, with his french accent, do you know how Sexy bread can sound when spoken in the love language?
And then meeting Bill Granger – so very sorry that I was already married and had hubby with me {joking} – but his style of cooking, easy one Pot Dishes won me over. Luckily for Hubby he is also a very good cook so I can keep him!
Have you ever been to the Langham Melbourne hotel? Oh gosh the entry foyer – breath taking. Kicking myself for not taking pictures! Guess I was too stunned to get my camera out of the bag?
The Start of each Master Class was introduced by this hottie, I didn’t catch his name or number {joking}
Actually I do remember he was saying that he was a “Newcastle” kid – growing up with watching his idols on TV, and finding their recipes in Newspapers/Magazines.
I have never ever thought of “Bread” being such a “Loving Food”. Until I heard Eric talk about the “Dough” and the “Rising of the Bread” – oh gosh have you heard it said in French…heart swoon moment.
“Levain” {oh gosh he can come over to our place anytime as long as he says this word!!!}- the “starter” or “levain”, also known as the “chief”, “chef”, or “head”, made of flour and water.
Sorry the photo is not clear, I couldn’t get up close and personal with the Bread Eric Kayser cause I was near the back of the room so I took a Picture from the Large TV Screen.
Raisin Benoitons
We had three different Breads to try – even a “Green Tea and Orange Loaf” but funny enough I only took this one Picture. Guess I was too interested in hearing the way he spoke, and all about how successful Eric is with his bread shops….
There are over 130 Eric Kayser Bakery’s world wide – each one catering for the taste of that country! In America – its big loafs. baquette and yummy desserts. In France is the “Croissant” or “Dessert Tarts”. Green Tea Bread in China, and smaller loafs of bread. In Hong Kong you will find French Pastries, Macarons, Season Cakes along with his signature dishes that each restaurant is famous for.
And to think he was baking with his Parents from such a young age, and was baking full time by he was 18/19 years old – he has over 200 years of family history who were all Bakers. That’s a lot of generations all speaking and loving the dough 🙂
At Break Time We Were Given These Delights ::
Actually the Chocolate Desserts were too rich for me, and David had to finish mine off….but I did go back for a second mini Lemon Meringue Tart – they were too good to resist.
After Our Morning Tea It Was Bill’s Turn!
Bill Granger also owns his own Restaurant in Bondi, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, London, Tokyo, Honolulu, and Seoul. Traveling back and forward to each location as needed. With his wife and gorgeous kids – a real down to earth family man.
Peas, Spinach and Torn Mozzarella
He made this yummy salad – and the audience was given one that was prepared “earlier” – well actually the Langham Chefs Stuff were very busy out the back prepare the dishes with Bill Granger recipes.
Roast Snapper with Capsicum, Potato and Tomato
This dish was cooked all in one pan! Yep he loves “Simple” cooking but at the same yummy herbs and flavours. It was something out of this world. David doesn’t “like” to eat fish but he gave it a try and ended up polishing of his serving – he was really impressed with the flavours.
I was able to take a closer up Picture this time because after our morning tea break we were all able to move to different table/chairs, we were closer than last time.
Plum, Vanilla and Almond Tart
The way to a mans heart and to a Women’s Love is through this tart!
Seriously you got to try a Plum tart with the almond – its a different flavour. Something that you would never think would go together but somehow its perfect.
I am normally the one behind the Camera lens – but I got game enough and asked David to take a picture of Bill with me!
we wished we could have stayed to see more Masterchefs but we had to head back to our Hotel so that we could get ready for the Woodland House Party….oh.my.gosh. I so wished that we could be back at that house right this minute, you have never ever been to a house party like Woodland. I can’t wait to share our pics and stories from that afternoon, check back here soon.
Have You Ever Seen A Masterclass in Melbourne?
