Raising Five Sons

I get a lot of questions, rude comments and then sometimes some really wonderful people come along and have nice things to say to us parents for Raising Five Sons. {You know who you are, the nice ones, I love you for your support and love}

When we had all five of our boys living with us and we would go out and about I would these comments…..

“Are they all yours?” – No I Kidnapped them and changed their last name to all the same to make it look like they are mine!!! {JOKING}

“Do they all have the same Dad?” – No I slept around five times but David accepted that and raised them all as his own!!!! {JOKING}

“Oh you poor thing, you have five sons so are you going back to try for your girl” – Gee so there is a way to determine what you order online???

“Your poor thing, when its your time to die the gates will be open in heaven because God will know that raising five sons is tough going and you deserve to live in heaven” – I SHIT you not that has been said to my face, and more than once. Like seriously what can people be thinking???

And the one that EVERYONE says to us…

“So are you going to go back and try one more time for a girl” – well let me think about that one…..we have five sons already whats the chances of another gorgeous son.

When David and I got married – over 19 years ago – we wanted six babies. We had five boys and we felt like our family was complete. Well actually David felt like our family was complete and went to the doctors. I supported him because I wasn’t sure my body could handle another pregnancy – we have really big babies!!!

But now I would love another sweet baby in my arms, so I am hoping for lots of grandchildren to spoil, mind you not just yet….wait till my sons are a bit older!!

Raising Five Sons ::

Actually you know what, I love raising five sons, and I wouldn’t swap my world for anyone, even if you paid me a million dollars. Maybe if you offered me two millions dollars I would think about it!! {JOKING AGAIN}

The Seven Reasons I love My Sons ::

  1. They are so very messy, like dirty all of the time, and they seem to find ways to make their clothes really dirty…..clothes that sometimes I have to throw out because I can’t get the stains out. But I love seeing them smile happily when they are playing.
  2. They destroy my kitchen. Literally – they can cook a meal easily, and can cook for themselves when need be. But when it comes to washing up they seem to forget they have two arms, two legs, a brain in their head and the ability to fill up the sink! But I love knowing they have eaten a good meal and are growing strong.
  3. They fight. Gosh do they fight – and its not with words. Its physical. And it can get very scary. But then they stick together – if I try to break up their fights they can’t understand why I am stepping in between them and then they stick up for each other. I love knowing that they have each others backs no matter what, and because they are physical with their fights they can still be best friends later on. {Short term memory!!}
  4. OH gosh teenager smells…..I can’t describe it. There is nothing in this world that I can say that could describe that teenager smell…its like something out of this world, imagine 100 bags of smelly socks hanging around!! Well that’s what teenager smell is like – like a bad foot odor that leaks out of their skin. Why do I love that aspect of teenagers? Cause they out grow it after awhile and you can then give them hugs again cause they soon realise they still like hugging!!!
  5. They can go out together and be best friends. Sure when they are growing up they say “I hate you, and I wished I never had any brothers” but when they get to the age where they are old enough to be out and about {especially at night clubs etc} they can go together and look out for each other. I love knowing they keep safer that way.
  6. They still will come home, sometimes, maybe once a month ~ Just for a good home cooked meal. At least I get to see them and hug them and cook a meal with love for them….making sure they are eating at least healthy once a month. And I can bribe them with food – they say to a man’s heart is through his stomach!!!
  7. They give the best hugs to me, and the best “I Love You” Mum/Dad ย – they also have kind hearts, even if we have to dig deep through their layers of messy dirt!! Even if we have to look past their “Tough Front” image, its there.

On Sunday While Saying Goodbye to our Oldest Son

Nicholas is going through a stage where he won’t join in on any family photos, and because I am learning to let them decide what they are comfortable with I am trying so very hard to accept the situation – it means I have hardly any photos of him with us which worries me but I am hoping soon he will out grown that phase!!!

With My Five Boys ~

My parenting Skills have changed over the years….

I have learnt so much because of them – to love more, to live more, to be there no matter what ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually I am sure I could easily say there are 101 reasons why I love my five sons!!!

After this weekend I sure am grateful for all of them, even when they drive me crazy with their silly loud smelly messy ways ~ I am now more aware of how grateful I have to be to say that YES I AM THE PROUD MOTHER OF FIVE SONS, say whatever you want, your not in my shoes walking my life path. I am and I love it.

I Am A Proud Mother of Five Sons.

      Thanks Johanna, I used to listen to those not so nice comments/people but now they don’t affect me anymore ๐Ÿ™‚

    I can only imagine how annoying some of those comments are. I only have 2 boys and people ask me all the time if I’m going to try for a girl. How insulting.
    I am not looking forward to the teenage smells though, Lisa. Will be turning to you for advice when that time rears its ugly bum, er, I mean head! ๐Ÿ™‚

    What a fabulous post Lisa and I can’t believe some of the things people have said to you – some people are the epitome of rudeness. I think you’ve got a book in there somewhere about your travels and life with 5 gorgeous sons. I’m already a hater of play fighting but with 2 boys I suppose I should get over that already! Thanks for linking lovely x
