On Friday night I was waiting for a train from Townhall to take me back to Wollongong. The train was meant to come at 9.25 but for some reason it was flashing on the screen that it would not arrive till 9.55pm. So I had a very long wait, considering I was there on the platform from 9.00pm.
Meeting A Man Named Steven
While waiting for the train a guy next to me asked if I was waiting for the Illawarra train, and if I knew why it was late. I told him I had no idea!
From those words of questions we had a good three hour conversation. Forming a new relationship of temporary friendship. Is it because we both knew that we would never see each other ever again that we could share so much between us? Or was it because we meet each other at that right moment in life?
I guess it was meant to be.
I wished that I could meet more interesting people like Steven!
He was 25 years old, living at home with his Dad and one of his brothers. He is the youngest of three sons, the oldest is 40 and he is married with two children.
He works in Sydney as a Chef at a very busy restaurant, traveling to work every day by train. Working shift work, with Sundays off.
He is very sensitive, very caring and with a heart that is very kind. He cares too much and sometimes takes on too much of other peoples problems, with out taking care of himself. How do I know that? Because I could tell by listening to his wonderful stories.
He shared his life, I shared my.
It was one of those moments where we could.
We had far too much in common.
We both have a dad with the same name. We both have friends/family with the same names. He had to grow up fast at the age of 10 when he had no choice. He actually became a chef because he had to learn to cook or no one would be eating.
He likes to travel. He went to America in July for three weeks with a tour because he wanted to see places that he has heard of.
He loves going to café with friends for coffee, going to the movies and working out.
He is spiritual but not religious.
He loves working out yet he has a really bad habit of eating McDonalds on his way home from work. He knows he Is not healthy but its a habit that he needs to somehow break!
We had deep questions for each other, and we enjoyed our moment in time together.
I never did get to say goodbye because his stop came up before we both realised. I never got to say thank you for sharing his life with me, and I never got to say how much I enjoyed meeting him. If I could say one thing to him ever again it would be this…….
Steven, your Mum is looking after you, she is very proud of you because you are a fine young man. You had to grow up looking after you and your Dad, you did a wonderful job and you should be very proud of yourself because you are kind, caring and a heart of god.
Thankful that our moment in life happened. Glad I went into Sydney to watch Girlrising, if I hadn’t I would not Meet A Man named Steven.
Have You Ever Been In The Right Spot At The Right Time?
Thanking you for following our Journey.
Cheers

Its was one of those moments in time where I was in the right spot at the right time!
Lisa this is so touching and if this were my son I’d be glad he met someone like you that day. I often see my Dad and our little boy in people I meet and once I saw a man in the distance holding a little boys hand walking away from me, I felt such a connection to them.
Your Steven sounds lovely and how beautifully he turned out!
sending love as always xx
Hi Lisa,
Oh you so would have loved to be there talking to Steven. He was such a nice man.
I love how you still see your Dad and sweet little boy in others, I do the same with my Aunty and sometimes I can feel my Grandma.
Hope you are well

This is one of my very posts of your’s I read to date, Lisa! It soooo made me think of those missed connections that we as people have in life. Whether a stranger at the store or the park. We talk then go our separate ways both with smile. Only to never see them again and wonder if that was a chance meeting brought together for a reason. Loved this one 🙂

Sometimes meeting others is because its meant to be 😉 And meeting Steven was one of those moments in time where we connected for a short time yet shared so much from the heart 🙂
