Two Sundays ago we all got up very early and caught a Train into Sydney. We found out that the Trains, Buses and Sydney Ferries only cost $2.50 per person for the whole day….
Our Train Ride to Sydney ::
It was the first time our boys have ever been on a Train into Sydney, and it was a double Decker train – they couldn’t decide if they wanted to go up or go down the stairs. In the end it was so busy that we had to all sit on the lower level.
Our First stop was Town Hall so that we could explore the Queen Victoria Building. David used to work there as a Security Guard many moons ago so he wanted to show his boys the stunning shops, the gorgeous stairways and the many different doors – some that open to other floors, some that look like a door but does not actually open at all.
The Gorgeous Stairways ::
Oh and the most sought after store ::
The Clock that captured all of our attention as well as others walking bye ::
The stunning floor ::
And lets not forget the Ceiling ::
Actually I have so many photos of the Queen Victoria Building that I could put them into an Album 🙂
From there we hoped back onto a train and went to Circular Quay. We wanted to catch a Sydney Ferry over to Manly – David’s Grandad used to visit there all of the time and he even has a chair there with his name on it, looking out over the water. Mind you we were not sure of the exact location so we will have to make another Trip into Sydney some time soon.
At Manly we walked into a Art Display that was on the Water Front. There was some gorgeous different displays on the Beach and the walk way. There was over a dozen different displays, will have to do another blog post soon on it!!
We were all getting hungry so we decided it was lunch time. Our three boys had Subway while David and I tried a little Japanese Place. Have to say they had the best meals for the best value ::
After our short lunch break we headed back onto the Ferries and got off at Circular Quay, to explore the Sydney Opera House. We walked around the outside and ended up having a little time out on the grass of the Botanical Gardens.
We walked around the Outside ~
maybe another time we go to see a show? I remember having dinner there with my late Grandma one time, when I was a young girl!
We all agreed that our feet needed a break, and we were all getting burnt by the sun. So instead of actually walking and explore the Gardens we rested for about 20 minutes. Next time we would love to jump onto the Train that takes you for a spin around the Botanic Gardens….whenever next time will be!
Because of our Tickets we were able to use any public transport as much as we liked, so we agreed to hop back onto the Sydney Ferries and head on over to Darling Harbor. Unfortunately it was getting late by then and the HMAS Vampire was closed for the day – gosh there is so much to see in Sydney, and so many places we want to go back to!
We grabbed a fresh juice from the local cafes, found toilets for those that needed a break ~ and walked slowly back to Town Hall Train Station. If we had more time we would have explored more of the surrounding Sydney. Un-Fortunately we had to head back because the train ride takes over an hour….and by the time we got home it was 8.30 pm – time for a very quick easy dinner, and into bed.
We still want to go to Sydney Taronga Zoo, Luna Park, Botanic Gardens, Inside the Opera House, Darling Harbor Playground, Museums, Sydney Heritage Fleet….and so much more!
Hope To Return And Explore ~
This Heritage Fleet soon as Possible!
Our Train Into Sydney was fun, and something that we can’t wait to do again 🙂
This Street Statue Moved ~
Just as Cameron was walking past!! It was so very funny to see his face of surprise, and then go back for the handshake!

I love family Sunday funday $2.50 tickets. We have lived in Sydney most of our lives and still have not explored it all.
Ps countrylink have $1 each way tickets for up to 4 children in same family (with adult ticket purchase) such a great saving for families.

Hi Trish,
There is so much to see and do in Sydney!!
I was reading about your blog post with the $1.00 each way tickets – is that on all countrylink trains and is it for a certain period of time?
Sounds like a great way to travel with Children, we haven’t ever been to the Sydney Easter Show – would be so good to see.
Cheers

These cheap Sunday tickets are fantastic, and there’s so much to do. MUCH easier than parking in the city too. Love your pix of the QVB

Thanks – yeah its way easier than driving in and finding a place to park (we have done that about a month ago and spent more time in the car than exploring!!)
We can’t wait to return and explore more of Sydney.
Cheers

Lisa, how lucky you are to be so close to Sydney. I remember the $2.50 Sunday transport deal from when we were last there. You managed to see so much in just one day. I love Manly and the waterfront areas.
Your photographs are spectacular and what a lovely day it was. The Queen Victoria building looks amazing. I bet David loved showing it to the boys.
I can’t wait until you return for another look at Sydney.

Hi Jan,
It was such a good day…I can’t wait to return – and our boys are so keen to return to the Queen Victoria Building so that they can go to the Hobby Store. It wasn’t open yet for the day, and they were so keen to check it out.
We hope to return soon – especially to see if we can find Dave’s Grandad’s Chair at Manly.
We also can’t wait to explore more of Darling Harbor, Luna Park, The Zoo and many other great places 🙂
Thanking you for your kind words.
Cheers
