I have heard other travelers mention “GEO Caching” but to be honest I really thought “nope, that’s not for me, it sounds boring” – well guess what….I got bored of our everyday life the other day and thought “Yeah I know we have seen so much of the Sunshine Coast, but there has to be another way to see more”.
Which got me to thinking {dangerous I know} and I kinda stumbled onto GEOcaching app on my phone, I was searching for something else and it popped up. So one thing leads to another and I am off checking it out with online research. Then downloading the app onto my phone, and before I know it we are off walking to our first GEOcache.
Geocaching On the Sunshine Coast, there are so many to find, how long are we going to be here for!! Actually I am really excited because the “Treasure” finds have lead us to meet another Traveller, and also we got David hooked onto it as well – something we can do as a family together, which is a really good thing.
I can’t tell you locations {don’t want to spoil it for any other GEOcaching Sunshine Coast fans} but I can share photos of our finds. The other day we found one, today we found five.
To be honest the other day the English Traveller found it and we were able to experience the joy of finding the “Test Tube” {with the other traveller} and signing our name on the paperwork. It was the biggest BUZZ of my life – who needs alcohol when you can go find treasures!
Today We Scored ::
Well actually Cameron found one today, Kyle found three and David found one. I was there pointing out the GPS co-ordinates!
And we swapped “Treasures” in three of the finds – the last one tonight was too small for us to put anything into. David was also very keen to get home, he worked all day today and was starving by that time.
Yesterday We Searched For Ages ::
But we couldn’t work out the clues, and my phone was going flat. Luckily another Traveller joined us – The Guy from England – wish I could remember your name to say “Thanks” for the great find. And it wasn’t in the Grass in the above picture, nor was it in the below picture!
He was so very close and didn’t even know it 🙂
We knew it couldn’t be in the water – the log book would have gotten too wet. Well see as how I can’t say where it was, you will have to take my word for it that we did find it. I did “log it in” on the app so that we can keep track of the ones we do find/can’t find!
Today We Went Exploring More ::
We are all addicted to GEOcaching, and cant wait to find more. Must remember to take “Little Trinkets” with us so that Kyle can chose one from each cache, and replace it with something for another child.
The Next Cache ::
This would have to be the best “Cache” {Box} we have come across {so far} – its well hidden, the description and clues are spot on, the box is able to hold a fair bit and the inside of the lid has great instructions stuck to it.
Another Cache Another Location ::
This One Was Too Hard ::
We spent ages here at this spot – then my phone went dead, they both were starving and it was after 3.00pm so we headed back to have lunch.
After picking up David from Work we headed back to the location – and would you believe he found the “Camouflaged” container within minutes of searching an area – my Phone GPS signal was playing up and couldn’t pinpoint the exact location, so David guessed where the “strongest” signal was and searched until he said “Is this what you have been looking for”?
Gosh I couldn’t believe how good he was! By this stage we didn’t have any “Treasures” to replace what was already in there so we signed the log book and called it a day.
I have since jumped onto the Geocaching website and searched for Geocaching On The Sunshine Coast locations and have found so many that we can find – within where we are staying, and also over at Caloundra. I Â am even trying to see if there are any on the way up to where we are going to be spending Easter!
Yep. We. Are. All. Hooked. And can’t wait to join other families in our search – its so much fun.
Have You Tried Geocaching?
If so where do you search for your caches?
Cheers
Lisa
New Life on the Road.
Hi Lisa, have you heard about Munzee. Its a new age Treasure Hunt where you have to scan a barcode when you find it. I accidently found one when I was out geocaching with the kids, looked it up and now we are hooked on that as well 🙂
Hi Fiona,
Oh my gosh – no I haven’t heard of Munzee – that sounds like so much fun!! Geocaching is so very addictive, never ever realised how much fun it would be 🙂
Thanks for the info on Munzee.
Happy treasure hunting.
Cheers
Lisa
